Returns to original departure point
Drive-out approximately 30 miles (48 km) to the embarkation point of your airboat from your New Orleans hotel. Depending on the option you selected, board a large airboat holding 15 to 25 passengers or a small airboat limited to six to eight passengers for a more intimate, personalized experience.
Set out on a 20,000-acre (8,095-hectare) tract of tidewater cypress swamp close to the Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Preserve. Your flat-bottomed airboat is powered by an aircraft propeller to allow a fast, fluid trip through the shallow marshes. Feel the wind on your face as you zip into bayous lined with mossy cypress and tupelo-gum trees and your pilot points out a stunning variety of wildlife.
Prepare to see plenty of alligators in the warmer months (and warmer days in winter), some of which may be out sunning themselves on rocks! Your guide may even feed the gators, affording you amazing photo opportunities. Also keep your eyes open for turtles, snakes, egrets, herons and ibis. You may even catch sight of a hawk, owl or bald eagle. In the cooler months, look for white-tailed deer, raccoons and the large rodents known as nutria.
Your morning or afternoon airboat tour ends at the embarkation point. Be sure to check out the indoor exhibits of alligators — including an albino alligator — before making your way back to downtown New Orleans on your own.
Note: This tour does not include hotel pick-up or drop-off unless hotel pickup and drop-off is selected at checkout. Being shown beautiful scenery in a high speed boat could not be any more enjoying. Awesome guide, safe and entertaining tour!
We booked an airboat ride as we thought it could be a lot of fun, and because it could be fascinating to watch alligators in the wild.
We booked a tour on the smallest boat possible, which happens to also be the most expensive, but it is worth every penny, as you get a lot closer to the animals, and the boat is able to get in where the bigger ones can't.
This was a lot of massive fun, and our guide was simply fantastic.
If you are in New Orleans this is really something you have to experience! The scenery was beautiful and we saw a lot of alligators. We took a six person air boat that could go up the very narrow buyous. Brad was our guide and was very informative,
This was one of our favorite tours! Our guide was so knowledgeable and fun! He was very good at pointing out the turtles and gators, and we were able to stop at times to take good photos and we learned so much about the swamps, bayous, and all the wildlife and vegetation. This tour is a must do!
Fun time, great guides and saw lots of gators. Had 2 small boats for 9 of us. It was a little windy but guides keep our rides enjoyable.
We LOVED every bit of this. The people were friendly and helpful and very professional! The tour was UNREAL and we totally suggest taking the smaller airboats to have a more intimate experience! We saw so many gators!
This tour is a lot of fun. The guide we had grew up only a few miles from the swamp and was very knowledgeable. He even had a baby alligator with him that we could hold and take pictures. We went in early Dec and saw 6 alligators. Suggestion: Instead of paying for the tour to pick you up, just go rent a car for the day to save money.
The weather would not let us be great!! We had an excellent guide, Jay, who made sure we had a good time and was very informative. We were on the large boat, but I think you will be able to see more on the smaller boat. I recommend taking the ride in the warmer months so you can see more animals. According to Jay, most animals are trying to find a warm place and don't come out.
Our swamp was an amazing experience! The guide was very knowledgable and gave lots of great info. We got to handle a baby alligator as well as saw lots of wildlife and plant life. Well worth every penny.
Took a large boat. The guides really know where to spot gators, even in the cooler months when most are dormant. We still saw 2 gators in cool, November weather. The guides are not only knowledgeable, but very entertaining, especially Captain Cory!
We booked a small boat and couldn’t have been more excited to do so. Seeing everyone crammed into the large boat made us feel quite fortunate to have such a personal experience. Being a small boat was so much more agile and exciting and up close and personal. We probably saw at least 20 gators and several turtles. We were told that October was about as late as you want to go on this experience since the animals are starting to prep for winter. Overall this is an amazing experience and one that you should not pass up if you have the opportunity and time to do so.
First time visiting NOLA, we were told this was a must for our ‘to do’ list. We’re glad we did it, an amazing experience!!!
We had a group of eleven and we all enjoyed the tour. Our guide was entertaining and knowledgable about the area. The swamps were beautiful and we got to see several alligators. Eat before you go as there is really no place to go within walking distance and byob! If you get a Lyft or Uber there the only way back is by taxi, so I would reserve that ahead of time so you're not left waiting for 45min for a ride back like we were.
We arrived to an albino alligator when checking in, which my girls loved. The captain was amazing and gave not only a tour but education on the geography, history and ecology of the bayou area. It was a short 30-40 minute ride from New Orleans and SO worth the trip!!!
So much fun!! 100% must do in New Orleans! I would happily go again! We even got to hold baby Al! Would be fab for kids!!
Absolutely awesome! Guide was knowledgeable and also told us about some local cuisine! Had a blast!!
Our Airboat adventure was amazing! It was the highlight of our trip to New Orleans. With transportation, they picked us up from our hotel and dropped us back at our hotel. The airboat ride itself was so enjoyable. We got to see alligators and learn about the habitat in the bayou. Highly recommend this company if you go to New Orleans!!
My sister, my best friend and I went on the airboat ride and let me tell you, it was AMAZING! From the moss on the trees down to the baby gators walking on the lily pads it was just awesome. We went early to try and beat the heat but it's August, what do you expect? I wanted a smaller boat so we did the 8 passenger boat ride and ended up with just 6 of us plus the tour guide, on the boat! It was great! he took us to areas a bigger airboat wouldn't fit and it was just AMAZING! There were young gators and a couple of old-timers I think our guide said were 60-70 years old. HUGE! The view is breathtaking you literally do not need to use any filters. I would definitely recommend this tour and I will be coming again soon! P.S. weather changes quick so bring a raincoat! We started off needed sunblock and ended up soaked to the bone but totally worth it!
Absolutely worth your time and money. Our guide, Cory, was outstanding. Saw plenty of alligators and the gorgeous Louisana swamp.
