What to Expect What to Expect

This tour is a custom tour and are not necessarily in the order below. Each guide has their own itinerary and have a specific place and time to be throughout the tour.
The 3 hour tour makes a stop at the famous John Ford’s Point where many of John Wayne’s western cinematic movies were film, and also the Transformers: Age of Extinction featuring Mark Wahlberg. Next, your guide will drive to The Backcountry of the park and escort you to the arches.
At “Sun’s Eye Arch” you will be standing at a specific degree to look up into the rock arch and see why it is named Sun’s Eye. At the same location you will also see Petroglyphs and hear your guide’s stories.
You will also travel to the “Big Hogan.” The Big Hogan is a great place to take family pictures and lie against the rocks and feel its warmth. Your guide will provide stories and suggest great photo shots.
In the Backcountry is the “Ear of the Wind.” This is the largest arch in the park, and your guide will escort you to a photogenic spot where you can take photographs.
You will be guided to the Totem Pole and Yei Bi Cheii Monuments where you will be able to take photographs and hear the cultural stories behind each monument.
Your guide will meet you in the lobby of your hotel, then get ready for a scenic drive to Monument Valley in a comfortable all-terrain vehicle— allowing for exclusive access to parts of the park that are inaccessible to smaller cars.
The area, located on a Navajo Reservation and considered a sacred healing region by Native American tribes, is tough to navigate on your own. But your guide will walk you through the history of the Navajo tribal park and the background of each stunning natural formation. With your choice of a sunrise or sunset tour, you’re bound for incredible, camera-ready views during the sun-kissed time of day known by photographers as the “Golden Hour.”
The itineraries are fully customizable, so you’ll have your pick of some incredible spots, including iconic rock formations like John Ford’s Point, which served as film backdrop in many John Wayne Westerns. One of the most photographed formations is the Yei Bi Chei monuments, which resemble a line of tribal dancers. You’ll also get an opportunity to take pictures of the Big Hogan, a sandstone cave chamber, and Ear of the Wind, a mesmerizing, crimson-hued arch.
At the North Window where you will have a chance to take pictures of the Mittens and Butte at different angles. Your tour guide will then slowly and safely transport you back to your departure point.

The sunrise tour with Dineh Beykayah was phenomenal! Our tour guide, Joseph, was great. He was knowledgeable about the area and formations, and gave us great information about the Navajo people. He took us to the perfect spot for a breathtaking sunrise and took tons of pictures of us. Do yourself a favor and book this tour!

I can not say enough good things about the tour and the tour guide. Anyone who is doing Monument Valley on their own is really missing out. Ros took us to all the places that you can not see on your own. What an experience it was. We have done The Valley on our own once before, never again. Viator you have done it again.

This was such an amazing tour. We want to do it all over again. Our guide, Harry, is an expert photographer so he was able to get us the most perfect shots. We even saw a herd of wild mustangs and he stopped so we could try to get picture. Excellent knowledge of the history. Ride was comfortable we were in an enclosed vehicle.

Could speak highly enough of Harry our guide.
We had the Stars and the Milky Way and the Sunrise at Monument Valley all to our selves at 5am.
Amazing experience, and fortunately for us, Harry showed me how to use my camera, and lent me a tripod to get some fantastic pictures.
Thoroughly recommend the early start, to enjoy the experience.

This tour was Extraordinary!!! Our tour guide John was incredible and shared so many experiences as a Navajo Native American including traditions of his family. We were absolutely thrilled that we were accommodated with our request for a closed vehicle due to my husband's allergies. This trip with our tour company is a MUST SEE! There was a good mix of driving and getting out to view the monuments up close. We learned so much on this tour!

We weren't quite sure what to expect. It turned out to be quite a wonderful experience. We left the The View Hotel with a lovely young woman who gave us an explanation of the first half of the tour.....she was friendly, sincere and laughed a lot with us. Then we transferred vehicles and went off with a young man....we think his name was Steve. He actually grew up in Monument Valley. He showed us where he played as a child, the great rocks he climbed and told us all sorts of stories of the Navejo nation's history., He took us to areas that you cannot see from the road, and we were show petroglyphs and special ceremonial arches and niches in the large rock formations. Every questions we asked was met with sincere answers. He had a great sense of humour and we spent a lot of time laughing and joking. He was as interested in our traveling stories as we were of his experiences. There was no hard sell of trinkets and crafts, although we stopped at a few places set up for tourists. We were the only two on the tour, so when the wind picked up and we got pelted with sand he invited us to sit in the cab of his truck. The three hour tour started from 3:00 pm until 6:00pm when the sun was going down. The light is fantastic for photos and the cooler autumn weather made for a pleasant experience. We highly reccomend this company and time of year to go. Thanks to all who made our day special!

The staff was very accommodating when we ran behind schedule and almost immediately booked us on a later tour after I emailed them to inform them of the delay. Now, that's what I call service. They also made an effort to find someone as a tour guide who could communicate with us dyet to our hearing loss. The tour itself was spectacular, as you would expect from this region. The non-public parts are well worth it, and the price for a family of four was very reasonable. Highly recommended.

I have always wanted to go where John Wayne and John Ford filmed. Our guided tour at Sunrise was absolutely amazing. Our guide filled us in on so much information about the area and to finally stand at John Ford Point was too beautiful for words. Somehow I will get back to just take it all in again.

The tour was fabulous! Our Navajo driver/docent was very knowledgeable about the area and skilled in showing and telling us much about Navajo culture as well as the geographical area itself. He and another Navajo even entertained us with some Navajo music, which was entertaining as well as moving.

This tour was well worth getting up at 4:15 in the morning to meet our tour guide by 5:30 for our Sunrise tour. I had booked the 6:30 sunrise tour and I was called the night before to see if we could change our time because sunrise was at 6:20. I groaned a bit but agreed to come an hour earlier. Our guide Stephen was hoping we would show at 5am because we would have seen how the rock formations were more distinctive in the morning dusk.
Stephen drove us where the cars aren't allowed and took us to areas in the park that you can only see by a tour guide. He was knowledgeable about the park and shared information about his ancestors living in the park for centuries. He was also a budding photographer and gave us some helpful hints to help our picture taking.
This was a tough call to decide which tour to take however I'm glad we did the sunrise first. It and when we come again, I would do the Sunset tour.
