It’s no secret that Hawaii is a particularly stunning piece of the Pacific Ocean, so see it from the best angle possible on a helicopter tour of the Big Island. This exciting two-hour tour from Kona will introduce you the Big Island’s beautiful and powerful features, including the active volcano of Kilauea, where if you're lucky, you'll see actual lava flow from the crater.
Take off from Kona in a comfortable, low-vibration, six-seat Bell 407 helicopter, and soar south along the coast and then east to Kilauea in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. See the most recent volcanic activity and look for flowing lava before heading to the north end of the island.
Climb between the volcanic peaks of Mauna Loa and Mauna Kea, enjoying the fantastic views from the helicopter’s oversized sliding windows, perfect for taking photos. Revel in the beauty of ocean cliffs and tropical rainforests, where you'll dive between mist-shrouded peaks. Admire the cool mountain waterfalls and the deep green valleys of the Hamakua Coast before returning to Kona, where you can spot the million-dollar resorts that dot the coast.
Your knowledgeable pilot will offer expert narration, which you’ll hear over your two-way headset. Ask questions and talk with pilot as you fly!

You should always listen to your pilot, when he says the clouds will clear they do! You don't need flowing lava to make this trip exciting. Hovering over gas and steam vents lets you know there is still plenty of activity just below the surface. The trip up a narrow valley to see a waterfall was exhilarating.
Fantastic tour saw so much from helicopter that you had no way of seeing on ground. Pilot very informative great tour would recommend
What a great experience from all aspects. From Ashleigh at reservations, to Jezelle at pre-flight to our amazing pilot, Matt! My kids enjoyed the views and stories about the volcanoes, waterfalls, towns and even the hidden bomber. Worth every penny for a lifetime of memories!
We can't say enough how much we loved our flight!! Everyone at Paradise Copters was professional and informative!! Our pilot Ryan was so knowledgeable about the Big Island, telling us about its history as we fly betw Mauna Loa and Mauna Kea, heading towards SE area of the island. He flew us close enough while at a safe distance for some incredible views of the ongoing Kilauea volcano eruption. Even though the cloud ceiling was low, Ryan was also able to get us some incredible views of the NE and north coastline of Big Island, pointing out numerous waterfalls and crop fields. We highly recommend Paradise for any helicopter tours you may want to do.
My first helicopter ride. Wow, what an amazing way to see the island. The weather was perfect and the views were amazing. We did get to see a little flare up of some lava on Maona Kea. Definitely an experience you should do once in your life.
This really was a great tour. Koji, the pilot, did a fantastic job with his commentary and wonderful manoeuvres to maximise scenery and photo opportunities. I had done one other helicopter tour over another island in Hawai'i. This one was superb and probably hard to beat. Strongly recommend this!
This was amazing. Absolutely loved the flight over the island to see the changes from one side of the island to the other. Fascinating to see the lava trails, some smouldering trees and then the lush green on the other side of the island. Felt very safe with our pilot
This was brilliant - completely round the island, over Mauna Loa and past Mauna Kea - with excellent clear views of the tops! Then off to the active volcano, Kilauea - a look at the lava flows, the active crater and where lava boils into the sea! After this, we went off and did the scenic valleys and waterfalls - it was excellent. The pilot was exceedingly good, making sure that he showed everything to both sides of the helicopter by flying in and out - wonderful! It was definitely worth paying for the extended flight - a short one would not have taken us to see the whole island and would not have been a fraction as good. A once in a lifetime experience that did not disappoint!
I was incredibly nervous for this trip, as I hate heights and my stomach tends to get a bit nervous during flights! This trip was AMAZING! You essentially get to see everything you possibly would want to see, from a view that not many people can say they have seen. Our pilot was amazing, and reviewed details of our trip before taking off. Once we were loaded into the helicopter, we were off for an adventure of a lifetime! My fiancé and I would recommend this tour to everyone, although it is pricey, you will not be disappointed!
I am lucky enough to have had numerous helicopter experiences so I am well placed to testify to how good this is! Troy is a fantastic pilot and guide and the perspective this gives you on overlapping lava flows and the lava lake through to the absolutely extraordinary valleys in Kohala is really only able to be seen from a chopper like this.
Our pilot was as excited as we were to see the lava from the volcanoes, even though he had probably seen it many times. Pricey, but worth it!
Excellent I have been on a few helicopter rides on the island but this one was by far the best . My mom is 89 years old and she was very impressed with the knowledge of the pilot about the island and the history. I would highly recommend this helicopter ride and the staff was 100 also like to thank Paradise Helicopter and the owner for a great day.
You may be hesitant to do this because of the cost, but it is well worth it! An amazing experience. Our pilot, Jork, was friendly, informative, and always willing to go back around again for another look! Seeing Kilauea from above was unforgettable. We were also fortunate to see the lava spilling into the sea. The coastline and the valleys with incredible waterfalls were majestic as well. We even saw whales along the coast. HIghly recommended.
This was worth every nickel, you see more of Hawaii in two hours then anyway else. Getting to look down into the volcanoes was awesome. Really learn to appreciate our Earth seeing all the different things that are happening to it right from a short distance above.
Mother Earth at it's best, and we got to see it up close
What a blast! Our pilot, Ryan, was awesome!! He explained where we were headed before we took off with a map of the island. He played great music that matched the ride. Professional and funny. Because of the weather winter in Hawaii he modified our trip--yes, he let us know that in advance--he took us to the north coast for the waterfalls, too many to count. He made sure that everyone got to see the sights no matter what side of the helicopter you were on. Not only did we get to see fantastic views of the island, we saw whales too! Great experience, yes, I'd go back in a heart-beat.
An amazing tour of the island. Being able to see the island from the air and follow the lava flows from the volcano to the ocean and see how they are building new land in front of our eyes was just amazing. And then flying from the volcanoes over and into the forest and seeing in such a short time the changing beauty of the island was just breathtaking. Highly recommend this trip.
