Haunting adventures await you during this cemetery and voodoo walking tour through New Orleans. Follow your guide through St Louis Cemetery No. 1, the oldest and most famous of the three St Louis cemeteries. You may recall it as the site from the classic movie Easy Rider or perhaps by its most notorious 'resident' Marie Laveau, the late Voodoo Queen of New Orleans.
Your professional guide will recount the background of both the famous and infamous people who are buried there. You can make a wish or, if you dare, cast a spell at the tomb of Marie Laveau. Hear spooky stories of how this voodoo master was able to be in two places at once. You'll also learn about New Orleans’ unique above-ground burial custom and hear various society tombs--grand mausoleums built to entomb and commemorate members of professional, benevolent, and ethnic organizations. These macabre monuments include the Italian Mutual Benevolent Society tomb which provided the eerie backdrop for Easy Rider.
Throughout your tour, you’ll get an in-depth view at the evolution of voodoo -- the practice of witchcraft with an African religious heritage. Often dismissed as a cult or superstition, plenty of New Orleans residents believe in its powers. Voodoo rites and traditions are still observed. Small shops sell tools of the trade with herbs, oils, powders, candles and more recognizable items such as voodoo dolls and gris-gris--voodoo amulets.
By the end of your tour, you'll understand the meaning of the gris-gris as well as take home some voodoo charms of your own with the mysterious objects found in your souvenir bag!

Came to town for a business trip and decided to catch this tour while in town. Highly recommend! Our tour guide was great, shared a wealth of information and tied both the history of the city and that of the cemetery and burial practices together perfectly. The cemetery was crowded with tour groups but still very much worth it!
Robi, our guide, was very knowledgeable, kept the tour moving and made the tour fun! I learned an enormous amount of information and corrected many misconceptions. Looking forward to another tour!
I enjoyed having a bus take you to and from the location. The guide was also very knowledgeable and gave some great information.
Great tour, very informative. Comfortable coach bus and very knowledgable tour guide.
Even though it poured part way through this tour, we had a great time. The tour guide was very informative and new a lot about New Orleans history and the cemetery. It was very interesting to learn about the burial process in New Orleans. It was also amazing to see the age of most of the tombs. A must do for anyone visiting New Orleans.
Loved the cemetery tour! Bili Jo had tons of information to share with us. Also, the tombs were an amazing sight to see!
I enjoyed this tour and found the information very informative. The guide was excellent and very responsive to questions. I learned some interesting facts about Voodoo that was unexpected. I recommend this tour.
We really enjoyed our tour of the cemetery. Our tour guide, Midge, had a wealth of knowledge and information. It was already getting quite warm though, so if you go in warmer months, be sure to dress appropriately or youll be miserable in the New Orleans heat and humidity.
Judy was excellent! Really knowledgeable and made the tour very interesting.
Great tour except for the heat, be prepared the humidity at this time of year was very high. Otherwise, good tour
Gray was an amazing tour guide! She was so knowledgeable about everything to do within the Cemetery and New Orleans as a whole. She made the tour interesting and brought a little mystery to it as well. She answered our questions quickly and kept our group moving along at a good pace. She even let me know the best spot to purchase children's books on the folklore on the area.
What a great experience! Gray was our tour guide and she was excellent. She teaches the other tour guides so that tells you how good her tour is. She is entertaining and very informative and her historical knowledge is impressive. Several people in our group remarked that they would have done better in history in school if she had been the teacher. I would highly recommend this tour, especially if you get Gray as your guide!
Loved every minute of this tour. Collected by bus and taken to St Louis Cemetary No 1. The tour guide was very informative and the history and stories he told where very interesting. A must do tour
This was an amazing tour. Our guide was Ms Janette, I hope I have her name correct. What an awesome guide her knowledge about New Orleans, the cemetery and the whole area was truly eye opening. I left which so much more information about the New Orleans, history, people and life style. I strongly recommend this tour and this guide in particular. Fantastic, thank you
