Stop At: Valley of the Temples, 47-200 Kahekili Hwy., Kaneohe, Oahu, HI

Visit the temple gorunds and the peace bell.
The Bell House, called kanetsuki-do, contains a five foot high, three ton brass bell, called bon-sho (sacred bell), cast in Osaka, Japan, from a mixture of bronze and tin, by permission of the government of Japan. It closely resembles the bell hanging in an identical Bell House at the Uji Byodo-In. The original is said to be more than 900 years old and to have come from India. It is revered for its distinctive shape, and the tone of the bell sounds a message of deep calm and peace, cleansing the mind of evil and temptation.
The resonant sound of the bon-sho creates an atmosphere of tranquility for meditation that travels for some distance. A soft wooden log called the “shu-moku” is used to strike the bell.
The bell is customarily rung before one enters the temple to spread the eternal teachings of Buddha. Ringing the bell will purify the mind of evil spirits and temptation. It is said that ringing this bell will bring you happiness, blessings, and a long life. It is customarily rung before entering the temple.

This tour was a great way to capture quick visits to several locations on the north shore. In seven hours we visited five locations. Eric, our tour guide, was very informative and provided information about the state, city, culture, etc. This was a very cost effective tour since it included a great lunch at Fumis

Such a wonderful tour. The Valley of the Temples Memorial Park was absolutely stunning and the highlight of the trip. Everything part of the tour was great. Would have liked to have visited fewer beaches to spend more time wandering the grounds of the Byodo-In Temple but even the beaches were nice to visit. The best part was getting to eat at Fumi's. Had the absolutely best coconut shrimp ever and the shave ice was yummy. Monique, our tour guide was extremely knowledgeable, friendly and gracious in answering questions guests had for her.

Other than the bus being late because of traffic, it was an amazing day! Monique had so much information to share and there were many stops that it never felt like we were driving for that long. I learned so much and it was very affordable. I don’t think it’s the right tour for families with young kids.

We had a very knowledgeable tour guide she was a great pleasure to listen to the entire time. Even though it was a long day she made it well worth our time . I am terrible with names so I apologize for that. But keep her doing these tours and you'll continue to have really good ratings .

Fabulous tour, fabulous tour guide. We started on time, and Paul I think! was personable, friendly, full of information and silly jokes that had us laughing. He managed the tour well, keeping us on track without hurrying us, and was super clear about expectations. The temple was lovely and the lunch tasty. We did see sea turtles beached, and he was sure to make sure we kept the appropriate distance to protect these animals. We actually caught a surf competition on the North Shore, which was a bonus and super interesting. If I could give 4.5, I would, but only because we got to the Dole Plantation so late in the day that we couldn't tour the gardens or take the train. We did see a pineapple demonstration which taught me a few things about choosing a pineapple, and enjoyed a delicious pineapple whip, so it was still worth it.

The North Shore is beautiful and you feel like you're getting a taste of the real Oahu, and a respite from the hub of tourist traps back in Honolulu. Lovent was an excellent tour guide, prepared to cover a number of subjects but also adept at addressing the random questions of this group of first-timers to Hawaii. His descriptions of the island's history, ecology, and challenges were very honest and enlightening. The tour moved at a relaxed pace and is one of the best that I've taken in any locale.

Great way to see most of Oahu. Ken took us on the tour, and was full of information and laughs! We were lucky and got to see 3 turtles on the beach, with many more swimming in the sea. Highly recommended for a way to get out of the city and see what the rest of Oahu was like.
