This 2-hour swamp tour of New Orleans starts with pickup from your downtown hotel. After a 35-minute drive by air-conditioned van, you'll arrive at your destination. Meet your airboat captain and settle into your seat on the 16-passenger vessel, then prepare for a wild ride into the swamp.
Powered by a 454 Chevy engine and propelled by huge fans, the airboat travels at speeds up to 25 miles per hour (40 kph). The captain performs exhilarating high-speed maneuvers, cruises at gentle speeds, and makes plenty of photo stops while narrating on the wildlife and local flora. Alligator sightings are common in these waters, but your guide is trained to ensure safety at all times during this family-friendly outing.

I had been apprehensive about taking this tour, partly because of the alligators, but mostly because I envisioned the swamp to be mosquito infested, slimy, generally gross. But “when in Rome”. So I took my chances. Oh my goodness. That was sooo much fun! The swamp was gorgeous, serene, almost mystical with Spanish moss hanging from the trees. We would cruise peacefully for a bit, then WOW we moved full speed ahead. I’m not going to spoil the wonderful surprises you’ll experience along the way, but truly there are memories I’ll never forget.
Captain Kenny was so much fun.
If I get back to New Orleans, I would definitely book this tour again!
We had a great time with our tour guide Ernie. He was very informative on the ride. Stopping every so often so we can take photos and also giving us many interesting facts! Definitely would do it again. Perfect amount of time!
Lots of fun. My husband was able to pet a very large alligator and we both held tiny newborns...simply wonderful.
Captain Ernie gave us an excellent tour of the swamps and a great understanding of alligator habitat and the surrounding ecology. You can tell he really cares about them.
It was soo much fun. We saw tons of alligators, turtles, birds including bald eagles. The guide was fantastic!!
What an awesome experience. Marty, our tour guide was very knowledgeable about the swamps and the surrounding wetlands. We learned so many new things and even got to hold a baby alligator.
Great to get out of the city and the hoopla of Mardi Gras. A must-do if you go to NO.
What a fantastic time!!! My swamp tour guide was Chaz. Guy is the absolute man, he was very friendly and knowledgeable. That was easily the highlight of my trip here. Two thumbs up. Guy deserves a raise!!!
Our driver had a degree in science and knew his stuff. Funny, knowledged, answered everyones question. It was a beautiful day and a great ride. Saw lots of alligators and it was so beautiful back in the swamp. Loved every second of it. Also appreciated being picked up and dropped off at our hotel.
Started out with rain but within a few min. it was gone and the ride was great. We got up close to the friends of the water. would recommend the 16 rider boat. Cheaper and you still see what everyone else does.
Do it. That is all I have to say. I would do it again and again 100 times over.
Started in torrential rains and were worried at first but was worth it in the end. Saw lots of gaters and other wildlife. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable about the swamp area and history. This is a beautiful area with great diversity of greenery and water. The airboat is the way to go. You are a lot closer to the action.
My family and I enjoyed this tour very much! My children had a blast and our driver was full of information very educational. Lots and lots of fun
Great tour! Saw lots of alligators although apparently that has to do with weather - make sure it's warmer if you want to see those and a few birds. The ride was fun but I wish there was a way to hear more from the captain. He was very informative and funny but he only talked once as a quick orientation to the boat and then we stopped for about 15 minutes in a pretty part of the swamp for him to talk some and answer questions.
The bus drivers did seem a bit confused. But in the end they did get us thre and back. The tour was great!
our captain was great - funny, informative and truly passionate about the swamp and it's creatures. He explained ahead of time how he would signal slowing and stopping and why he didn't stop at each alligator spotting. Our party of 6 thoroughly enjoyed this trip and I would recommend it to everyone going to New Orleans.
