My friend and I did this trip a few weeks ago and had awesome day! The beer and wine was free flowing after the snorkeling activity, the lunch was good, and the staff were very cool. I'd say the only negative to this though is that there isn't any shade on the boat, and you can't use spray sunscreen while on the boat (the instructions on Viator do not specify that). You only find out when its too late to do anything about it. The reasoning behind why you can't makes sense as it makes the boat surface slick, but spray sunscreen is not meant to be applied by hand as it absorbs almost instantly. Afterward I had the whitest palms ever, some white streaky handprints all over my body where I tried to rub it around before it absorbed and then 1st degree burns everywhere else (even 2nd degree in some areas). 3 weeks later I am still peeling. I wish they would either: provide the type of sunscreen they prefer, have it on board to purchase, put a mat down somewhere on the boat that you could use the spray type sunscreen over, or make sure that info is included in the pre-departure directions. Otherwise definitely a recommended tour! :)
Limited Coral and fish. Snorkeling better at Pennekamp. Staff great though! Kayaking around mangroves was nice. Enjoyed all the educational tidbits from Joe!
We had a blast on this tour. I highly recommend it. The crew was great. Very informative and helpful. We will definitely be back. Thanks for a great day.
Exactly as advertised. I love that Danger Charters always max's out their small groups at 20 - it makes for a more intimate day, and you get to know your fellow travelers better. The 65 foot sailing ketch is perfect for this trip and we had an excellent captain and crew with Capt Brian, 1st mate 'The Entertainer' - Dale, and 'Bronzer' aka Will. These three made our day! The weather was amazing and we never really felt too much sun or heat - we were too busy enjoying ourselves and chillin'. We got a great and again, entertaining history lesson on Key West and the nature preserve, as well as the flora and fauna throughout the trip. Dale has a superb way of storytelling and injecting humor into all his dissertations and the crew is uber-eco-friendly in both philosophy and practice - Capt Brian went out of his way to fetch garbage floating in the ocean. They are helpful as well, taking time to instruct first time snorkelers and kayakers on Basics 101. Snorkeling, fresh snacks amazing fruit tray and salsa/chips and later on - cookies, lunch, all-day beer and wine, kayaking, and sailing, it was 100 enjoyment and adventure of being out on the ocean in Key West listening to the wind in the sails with a great play list in the background and without jet ski's roaring in your ears. The emerald water is clear and shallow and the snorkeling fun, we saw plenty of fish, lobsters, a few moray and porpoises on the way back. This tour is a must-do if you come to Key West. 5 out of 5 for sure.
It was a nice start of the tour with a sunny day and ocean breeze, until we had to get on kayaking and snorkeling. Many of my girlfriends were first timers and had no clue of how to do either of the two activities. Captain Wade was extremely rude and impatient, acting as if they were a burden. When asked questions, he refused to answer them by punishing them with some else's faults such as not taking off their snorkeling shoes. He would say things like I will only answer your question when so and so someone else removed her snorkeling shoes. When getting in water for snorkeling, he would not tell or explain to them what to do other than a condescending and belittling look together with some yelling of take off your snorkel and do not go off the boat etc. Because of his rude attitude, several of my friends did not snorkel at all, although we each paid about 130 plus tips for the tour! As to kayaking, some of my girlfriends were given the terrible leftover boats with little to no guidance, when most of them were novice kayakers. Ironically, we were requested a 15 tip charge prior to the trip. I wish I were less trusting of their service and did not approve of it and waited until after the tour.
I would not recommend this tour to anyone. And even if you do, make sure you wait to tip until the end. That way, you at least have options to respond to good or poor services.
Outstanding! The crew Bryan, Mathew, and Chelsea were patient, attentive, entertaining, and extremely knowledgable. My daughter and I had a great time. We are already planning our next Key West adventure and Danger Charters will most assuredly be a part of it. Thanks for a memorable time.
This trip was exactly what I wanted. Small group, small sailing vessel, excellent captain and crew with Janet, MaryAnne, and Mathew. The weather turned twice but even the rain was a nice respite from too much sun and heat. We got a nice history lesson on Key West and the nature preserve, as well as the flora and fauna throughout the trip. Snorkeling, snacks, lunch, kayaking, sailing, it was all the enjoyment and adventure of being on the water in Key West without dangling 40 feet in the air or listening to power boats all day. I still can't get over how clear and shallow the water is. Even with churn from the weather, the snorkeling was worthwhile, saw plenty of fish and lobsters. This tour will stay on my list for the next time I come to Key West and I the only down thing I'd say would be that I'd have loved for it to include the all day tour and the sunset tour together.
Best thing I did all week in Key West. Joe was great with history and info. The snorkeling at Sand Key was phenomenal. Lunch was yummy. Kayaking was sweet.
The snorkeling was amazing! They took us to a cool spot with great views of the reef and an old sunken ship. This snorkeling and kayaking excursion was the highlight of our trip. I would book other charters with them.
I took the full day and we let at 10 and returned around 4:15. The crew was awesome and very friendly. We sailed a but, kayaked around an island, snorkeled and saw a shark, stingray and a bunch of fish.
Food was good. I would highly recommend on their professionalism and constant stories of Key West history, environment and personal tid bits. FUN ALL DAY LONG.
