Aboard the comfortable Catalina Express, sit back, relax and enjoy beautiful waterfront views on a 1-hour ride from Long Beach or San Pedro. You will be delivered to Avalon, the southernmost city of Los Angeles County. Once you disembark your ferry, you are a 5-minute walk from the downtown area. The pedestrian-friendly town regulates how many cars are allowed on the island, so much so that there is even a waiting list to own a car on the island! Stroll along the quiet, picturesque waterfront to enjoy shopping, dining, sightseeing and entertainment—all at your own pace. Depending on your schedule, check out what the Long Beach and San Pedro harbors have to offer. All food, drinks and activities are at your own expense.
Arrive in the heart of downtown at the Catalina Landing, next to the Aquarium of the Pacific. Want to grab a bite to eat before your ride? Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served at the Catalina Lounge, in addition to coffee, beer and wine. The nearby Catalina Deli dishes out sandwiches and other light snacks.
The ferry service operates daily (schedule varies by season) and accommodates bikes, surfboards and strollers, giving you flexibility to travel how you please.
You can arrive early in San Pedro, a part of the Los Angeles Port, to discover its rich maritime history. Visit landmarks such as the Vincent Thomas Bridge, the third longest suspension bridge in the state of California, as well as the Los Angeles Maritime Museum and the historic USS Iowa and SS Lane Victory ships.
When it’s time to depart for Catalina Island, hop on the ferry at the Catalina Sea and Air Terminal in San Pedro, which opened in summer 2012. The ferry schedule varies seasonally and accommodates bikes, surfboards and strollers, giving you flexibility to travel how you please.

Friendly, efficient staff. They even managed to put me on an earlier ferry which was great. Catalina itself is lovely, well worth a visit.
The boat ride to Catalina was on time, well organized and fast from Long Beach. The island was beautiful, well worth the trip.
I loved the Catalina Express Journey, the lovely day on Avalon we hired umbrella and chairs for the beach - which meant that we did not have to take any heavy items on the boat the water was perfect for swimming - the whole day way a wonderful experience and I just wish we could have stayed for a few days and not just the day.
My only complaint was the booking of the trip- the person I spoke to at the Catalina Express office was very short with me, kept repeating herself and said I MUST take the 'voucher' with me otherwise I would have to pay again - my family from UK would need ID which meant their passports -which was not a problem but she made it sound like it was going to be difficult somehow when I asked her if the printout I received from Viacom was the voucher' and tried to read exactly what it said she just kept repeating as above - I was feeling VERY anxious until we arrived at Berth 95 and a young lady took what turned out to be 'the voucher' printed out the tickets, was charming and efficient - from that point on the day was 'PERFECT
Can't wait to go again.
Excellent! Fast Ferry Boat was very exceptional. I am little bit disappointing to learn that the Catalina Express offered passengers with upgrading first class since this information was not including.
Everything went great from parking the car in the adjacent building, to checking in and boarding the craft...Commodore club was worth the extra 15.00...the boat was very clean and tidy, and the crew were very attentive and pleasant...the whole operation getting on and of ws effortless...10 out of 10 !!!
For us it was the getaway of a lifetime that will leave us with a memorable experience. It was my first time on a real island so that helped. Will definitely do this again in 2017!!
Highly recommended. Everyone was very nice, the ride was fabulous. Worth every bit of it!!
Loved the boat ride to the Island. Crew were friendly and polite and the trip was smooth sailing.
