Metropolitan Museum of Art
The immensity of the Metropolitan Museum of Art's collection, with works spanning six continents and more than 6,000 years, is what makes the museum such a world-famous attraction but can also overwhelm visitors. With this tour, however, you'll leave the careful planning to your guide.
All you have to do is show up, meet your guide in the main lobby, and prepare to see a vast range of art, sculpture, jewels, artifacts and architecture. Your 3-hour tour will have you traversing the globe without leaving Central Park. Your pre-booked ticket also ensures you won’t waste time standing in line.
Besides from what’s listed here, you’ll see little surprises and quirks of the collection as you tour. Our small group and expert guides will allow you to ask questions, be engaged, and take the most from your Met experience!

2-Hour Express Tour:Start the tour in Ancient Egypt where very well preserved tombs and caskets are on display. Gawk at the dioramas that reveal what life was like the time of Tutankhamen. Also, learn about various burial rituals and see the amazing mummies.
And don’t skip the Temple of Dendur, an ancient Egyptian temple. Get the interesting history on the temple from your guide and learn about its connection to Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis.
Leave Egypt and wander the museum looking at the priceless historical artifacts, such as the armor of King Henry VIII and the Antioch Chalice, which some historians and history buffs claim to be the actual Holy Grail. After looking at ancient Greek and Roman statues, head up to the second floor to look at 19th-century paintings. Specifically, marvel at the works of Vincent van Gogh, Claude Monet’s Water Lillies and Auguste Rodin’s famed sculpture, The Thinker.
When you’ve absorbed enough Expressionism, head up to the rooftop garden to take in the views of Central Park and the Manhattan skyline. The tour ends here but you’re welcome to stay on the roof for as long as you like. Indulge in a snack or sip a beverage (at your own expense).
3-Hour Extended Tour:After covering the same territory as the 2-hour itinerary, leave the rooftop garden and head back into the museum with your guide. Indulge yourself in the Dutch, specifically the Golden Age of Dutch painting. Peruse paintings by masters such as Vermeer and Rembrandt, and then head through the collections by Italian and Spanish painters. Marvel at works by El Greco and then take in Jacques-Louis David’s famous The Death of Socrates.
A little scandal is up next as your guide gives you the inside story about John Singer Sargent’s infamous Madame X. You’ll then be dwarfed by the immense Washington Crossing the Delaware, one of the most recognized paintings in the US.
Linger at artworks that capture your imagination, and enjoy plenty of time to interact with your guide and ask any questions.
- Confirmation will be received at time of booking, unless booked within 1 day of travel. In this case confirmation will be received as soon as possible, subject to availability

Our guide Katie showed us all the highlights in a span of 3 hours. While at first this, 3 hours sounds like a long time, inside the Met its actually quite fast. Loved how she shared interesting stories and answered our questions candidly. Since the weather was good, we also stopped by the rooftop which has unbelievably amazing views of Central Park and the city. Highly recommend this tour if you just want to see what you only need to see at the Met.
Katie was very knowledgeable and friendly! The Met would have been very over whelming and we would have missed some of the gems without Katie's knowledge and insight! Well worth it!
If you read other reviews that mention Katie, they are spot on! She is an excellent tour guide, able to answer any question and full of knowledge about the exhibits and art. I am so glad we paid for this tour and extra glad we got Katie as our guide. The museum experience would not have been as engaging nor would we have gotten as much out of the experience without someone knowledgeable to help us along the way. We will absolutely use Viator tours again on the next visit.
Our guide, Katie, was very knowledgeable, entertaining, and an expert in many genres. I would highly recommend a tour
The Met is the Met -- been there a million times and it never disappoints, but I never enjoyed it as much as I did this last time thanks to our fantastic tour guide, Katie. She was so sharp and entertaining and enthusiastic, and everyone on the tour had a wonderful time; from 11-year-olds to 70! Katie is definitely museum quality.
We had an excellent guide called Kathy! She was friendly and knowledgeable, and guided us through many important exhibits. There were also toilet breaks during the tour.
great day guide was knowlegable and very accomadating. thouroughly recommend. 10 out of 10 for quality etc
Scott was fantastic really insightful and made an overwhelming museum approachable and really interesting
I attended the 3 hour version of the tour. Katie did a great job and picked interesting pieces to discuss. She gave a lively and fun tour.
The two hour tour flew by as our guide, Ryan, filled our heads with more information than you can imagine and spurred our imaginations as he shared stories. We were all in awe. Such beauty! Best money spent on our trip.
We thoroughly enjoyed this tour with our guide, Katie! Definitely a must do, especially for first time visitors to the Met.
Our guide, Katie, was the best. She made the tour informative and fun with all the background information that she provided and even went above and beyond to lead us to some other pieces we were interested in seeing after the tour. It's clear that she really loves her job. Thanks Katie!!

The tour was amazing and was everything i expected it to be. Our tour guide was so full of information from all the different areas we visited: Ancient Egypt, Greece, Roman, Art from numerous centuries. An added bonus was the special exhibition Heavenly Bodies - a collection of fashion by famous designers. Our daughter loved the Eqyptian displays and the Heavenly Bodies.
We stayed on afterwards and visited the top floor for an amazing view of Central Park.
We will return to see more of the museum as and gave us so many insights our tour guide was amazing into the amazing MET.
A must for every visitor to NY.
Scott was an excellent tour guide! We had our 6 year old boy with us so we booked Viator for a tour guide to the Metropolitan Museum in NYC. Scott had my son engaged in the tour with questions and lots of knowledge! My son loved it He was never bored!
It was a wonderful experience for all of us!
Katie, our tour guide, was spectacular! She was engaging and extremely knowledgeable. We saw the most important pieces as well as some lesser known pieces. Each part of the tour was enriched with stories and history that really tied it all together for my daughter and me. Would highly recommend doing the earlier tour so that the rest of the day can be spent exploring on your own.
This three hour tour with Katie was excellent. She was extremely informative and entertaining and guided us around the rabbit warren that is the museum. It was packed with families and it must have been tricky keeping us all together. The queues for the toilets were a downside! We also found it difficult ti find Katie at the meeting point and would have appreciated a better system for finding our way into the museum and finding her.
The tour guide was amazing! She was interesting and tried to keep everyone of all ages engaged and entertained. Highly recommend!
Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and did a good job showing us the highlights of the extensive collections. This gave us good direction in deciding what we would like to explore in more depth. I would recommend this tour for all first time visitors so as not to be overwhelmed by the vast building and galleries.
SCOTT was the beat guide! Even if he was from Michigan - haha!!!
He was personal and gracious, mannerly and interesting. He gave us what we wanted and MORE! I agree we spent too much time in Egypt and not enough on paintings, but it was an excellent tour! Not too taxing on my 81 year MIL.
