Historic RCA Studio B opened in 1957 and was once the recording home of popular music titans such as Elvis Presley, Chet Atkins, Eddy Arnold, and the Everly Brothers is both a classroom for Nashville area students and a popular cultural attraction. RCA Studio B first became known as one of the cradles of the “Nashville Sound” in the 1960s. A sophisticated style characterized by background vocals and strings, the Nashville Sound both revived the popularity of country music and helped establish Nashville as an international recording center.
Hitmakers in Studio B have included Eddy Arnold, Waylon Jennings, Bobby Bare, Dolly Parton, Jim Reeves, Willie Nelson, and Floyd Cramer, among others. For many years, Country Music Hall of Fame inductee Chet Atkins managed RCA’s Nashville operation and produced hundreds of hits in Studio B.
Studio B has also been home to numerous innovations in recording practices, including the development of the “Nashville number system,” a musician’s shorthand for notating a song’s chord structure, which facilitates the creation of individual parts while retaining the integrity of the song. Tours of Studio B depart hourly between 10:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. daily from the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum. Really enjoyed this tour - The Country Music Hall of Fame was amazing! Great history of country stars from the olden days up to the stars of today, along with all the memorabilia. The RCA Studio B was also very interesting - the studio where Elvis Presley recorded all of his hits, which is still being used today! A must-do tour when visiting Nashville!
Wow -- what a great tour! You learn deeply personal stories about Elvis and Dolly Parton while getting to see the original RCA studio. So happy we booked this tour.
Our Guide Brenda was fabulous. She was not only very knowledgeable, but interesting at the same time. A tour very worth taking if you are in Nashville!
This was such an interesting tour. The guide was so knowledgeable about the history of the studio. Whether you are a country music fan or not this is a must see tour as you won't be disappointed.
This was by far my favorite tour! The music and the history behind it was truly amazing!
If you're an Elvis fan at all, don't miss it. Our tour guide Sierra was excellent, excited and exuberant with tons of little tidbits of trivia. The original musical instruments used for just about all recordings are still in place, photos, mood lighting, actual live recordings, out takes and so much more.
Do not miss out on this tour. We had a very pleasant and informative host. The size of the group was comfortable making no problems hearing or seeing anything. Book your tour first with the studio by bus and then fill in all your time browsing the museum before and/or after the pass is good all day. I highly recommend!
WOW! Now this tour was truly amazing. The lady who led the tour was fabulous. She had all the facts and made the tour very enjoyable. I have been an Elvis fan for over 60 years but she gave us facts that I had never heard before. Also, told us things about him, funny things that had happened at Studio B while they were recording, etc. I TOTALLY LOVED THIS TOUR AND WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT. In fact, hopefully we will get back to Nashville one of these days and I will definitely take this tour again. IT WAS AWESOME.
Great tour! Guide was extremely knowledgable about the studio and various artists. Only wished he had slowed down while talking, some info went past us too quickly, otherwise an hour well spent.
It's one thing to read about the history of this building. It's another to see it. Guide did an excellent job of presenting the historical significance of the building and its impact during its era! A must see for a music historian!
The tour was the highlight of our girls' birthday trip. Wonderful tour guide!
This is a tour that should not be missed. Our guide was fantastic -- so knowledgeable about the Studio and the stars that have preformed there. Don't miss this tour!!
Excellent tour! The tour guide had her dialogue down very well. The studio is a rush through tour and should be offered in different levels. Musicians would enjoy a more detailed tour. All in all it was well worth the money. Elvis is the biggest subject on the tour which is fine however little time is given to the other great musicians who came through the doors back in the day.
