Travel along the beautiful, scenic backroads of the Texas Hill Country, with a brief stop at the Johnson City Visitor Center and boyhood home of LBJ. Only a short distance away is the town of Stonewall, the peach capital of Texas and home to the Lyndon B. Johnson State Park and Historic Site. Enjoy a tour of the LBJ Ranch, located along the picturesque Pedernales River.
During your tour, you will discover how the German migration of the 1840s and 1850s influenced the development of this picturesque area. You will hear about the role of the Texas cowboy and the great cattle drives from South Texas to mid-western markets, and you'll learn about the legacies of both LBJ—America’s 36th President—and Lady Bird, his beloved wife.
We will stop for a break in Johnson City at the National Park Services’ Visitor Center and Boyhood Home of President LBJ.
After our brief stop in Johnson City, we will head west to tour the beautiful LBJ Ranch and Texas White House on the Pedernales River.
After the LBJ Ranch, we will head further west and discuss the development of the Texas wine industry as we drive through Texas vineyards on our way to the old German town of Fredericksburg, where you will have 1 to 2 hours of time on your own. If you prefer, you can shop and eat lunch at an authentic German biergarten or visit one of the many wine tasting roooms. You can visit the Nimitz Museum & National Museum of the Pacific War. This Fredericksburg part of the tour is flexible, so you can do whatever pleases you!
From Fredericksburg we will drive past more vineyards on our way to legendary Luckenbach, Texas—where "everybody’s somebody." We will stop and take in the storied musical history of the colorful town of Luckenbach, made world-famous by Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Jerry Jeff Walker, Gary P Nunn, Hondo Crouch, and many more artists and colorful characters.
After Luckenbach, we will take a scenic route through the Texas Hill Country, through Sisterdale and its Sister Creek Winery, through another quaint German town of Boerne, and then on back to San Antonio.
**Important Note: Starting August 3, 2018 and until further notice, guided tours of the interior of the “Texas Whitehouse” are cancelled per the National Park Service due to needed repairs. However, guests can still explore the LBJ Ranch grounds, view exhibition pieces and artifacts in the JetStar Hangar, watch an award-winning 14-minute film, and get a picture with LBJ’s infamous JetStar aka “Air Force One-Half”.

Much, much better then I thought it would be. I learned so much. I would recommend this to everyone. Ask for Dora, she was absolutely awesome.
This trip sounded great--LBJs childhood home, his ranch, Hill Country, etc. However, driving to the tour companies office and sitting in the parking lot for 15 minutes wasn't on the itinerary so the guide could pick up what she called "audio/visual equipment". That wasted time compromised our time at LBJs childhood home that the tour guide neglected to make reservations for us to tour. Yep, we were only allowed to walk quickly around the outside because another group had booked it. Then we rushed off to the ranch, which was very impressive. We couldn't go in because of safety issues, but we knew that ahead of time. We were rushed through the tour because we had to get to Fredricksburg for a 2 hour lunch break. It would have been better to spend more time at the LBJ sites!
Hill country was beautiful to see, but we were subjected to an audio narration that sounded awful and was either too loud or garbled! It was more annoying that beneficial! When the guide did speak, she was reading it out of a binder and didn't seem to know what she was talking about.
Even though we got back an hour late, it seemed like we were shortchanged. Viator should offer an LBJ experience along with Hill Country, but not with Luckenbach and a winery. It was too much and everything was rushed. On top of that, the guide let us down with not being prepared and not making reservations for the childhood home tour. Overall, what should have been great was rather disappointing.
Very interesting. Ray, the driver and the guide was very pleasant and informative.
Wow! What a fantastic tour! We enjoyed every minute of it and really felt like we got a feel for the Hill Country and the impact of LBJ on America. Jose was an awesome tour guide, as well! Extremely informative!
This tour was a total disappointment. The leader offered nothing more than transportation. He did not talk to us at all there was an annoying pre-recorded spiel, which left no chance for questions. The timing was off at various stops, so that for example, we skipped the LBJ childhood home and wasted an hour at the ranch visitor center. Trying to reach customer service is impossible, so we are venting here!
