After pickup from your downtown Portland hotel, relax on a scenic drive by luxury vehicle to Columbia Gorge National Scenic Area. Travel along the mighty Columbia River and be on the lookout for bald eagles and osprey, all while admiring the towering basalt cliffs formed from the river cutting through the Cascade Mountains.
When you arrive, your professional guide will take you to a few waterfalls. This area is home to the second-tallest perennial waterfall in the US, Multnomah Falls.
Spend some time hiking around these stunning natural wonders, and be sure to have your camera ready! Then, continue driving east, where wet forests of the coastal Pacific Northwest provide views of oaks, pines and other arid vegetation, creating prime growing conditions for grapes.
As you near the town of Hood River, embark on a tour of a few local wineries, each one unique and charming in its own way. At each winery, relax and sample some boutique wines found only in Oregon. The weather, views and wine make for an unparalleled vineyard experience.
In between wineries, your guide will tell you about the history of the land and the region’s culture, giving you an understanding of how this incredible landscape has shaped the wine in your glass.
Some of the wineries you may visit include Cathedral Ridge, Wy'East Vineyards, and others depending on the season. After your tour, relax on the drive back to your downtown Portland hotel.
Itinerary Change Advisory: Following significant forest fires in the Columbia Gorge this past September, our tour itinerary has been modified. On your tour, you will visit at least one waterfall in the region and many more more will be visible. Your day will still include Women's Forum State Park, the best viewpoint in the lower Columbia River Gorge, as well as, of course, fantastic wines in Hood River. We will view Multnomah Falls, but depending on access it may only be visible from the freeway. Throughout the winter and spring, State Parks and the Transportation Department may continue to alter accessibility, which will of course alter our tour plans, but our management and expert naturalist guides will stay nimble, and adapt as necessary to bring you the best experience the Columbia River Gorge has to offer. Regular Itinerary will resume 6/1/2018.

This tour sounded like it would be a great way to see the Columbia Gorge with my daughter - wine and waterfalls, and it was a wonderful day in so many ways. We were Asia’s guests for the day, where she did all the driving, and we could just enjoy ourselves. There were 7 guests in our comfortable van from Ireland, Georgia, Chicago, Florida, and southern Oregon.
Our tour guide was very knowledgable, and she filled our traveling time along the way with history, geology and other information. The waterfalls were beautiful, and the wineries were delightful. As the day passed we had an opportunity to talk to our fellow travelers while we snacked in the woods and tasted wine at the wineries. A delightful day.
I would recommend this tour. Our guide was knowledgeable and great at getting the group to interact.
The waterfalls were great and the wine was fantastic. However, the best part was our guide. Spencer is a 6th generation Portlander that has a love for the area and its natural beauty. His breadth of knowledge included the geological phenomena that impacted the Columbia Gorge as well as the interesting societal history of the area. He was very friendly, punctual, and had a wealth of information for us, even for questions beyond the tour such as where some good restaurants and bars in town were. It was clear that it was important to Spencer that we all had a great time in Portland. He is an excellent ambassador for the area and makes this tour highly recommended.
Awesome experience! This trip was a perfect blend of beautiful scenery, interesting facts about the Columbia Gorge area from our guide Aaron, and excellent wine tastings. The guide, Aaron, was exceptional, going above and beyond to make sure every guest had a fantastic experience. The Castle Rock winery was very good, with great wine and an enthusiastic tasting host. The Wy'East winery was average, but the scenery and sitting area were quite nice. Would highly recommend this tour!
This trip was cancelled due to fires but they were able to substitute a waterfall and winery tour in it's place. Jeff, our guide, did a great job on the fly with the replacement tour and we have a good time and enjoyed all of the wine and walking. Nice job Jeff.
Our tour guide Jordan was amazing and great and knowledgeable. The sights were beautiful and the wines were also great. Great tour and a lot of fun. Best way to do this tour is definitely the small group way.
Guide was great, walks and ride were beautiful and the wineries were interesting and had good wine.
Our driver picked us up from our hotel at exactly the time promised, He took us to several waterfalls that were not expected as well as the infamous Multnomah Falls , and spent the entire time teaching the geography and evolution of this area of the world. The winery choices were excellent. We had plenty of time here which enabled us a chance to meet our fellow travelers. We never felt rushed at all on this trip!!
We loved being with Marcus as he gave so much information about the state! It was just a lovely day! The wineries were the best!
We join this tour 14th August.
It is great time for us because we enjoyed waterfalls and wineries. Chenge plane flexible to see waterfalls and tasting wine, it's difficult to do private.
My wife prefer craft beer although I enjoyed wine very much in addition Hood river area is first time for me.
Great trip. Worth the money. Amazing waterfalls. Tour guide was very knowledgeable and friendly. GREAT Job!!
