Excellent tour and amazing food. Our guide Cotton was great funny and informative. All of the restaurants treated us to wonderful tastes of the new modern Charleston food.
This was our first foodie tour in Charleston. Four restaurants serving 15 items. More food than we needed. We had some great vegetarian options too. We especially liked the veggie flat bread at HoM and the mussels and bread at 39 Rue de Jean.
Come hungry because you will leave full. We visited 3 restaurants and a gourmet ice cream shop on Upper King Street. Each stop had delicious food - about 3-4 distinct offerings at each stop. Our guide, Charlie sp, was energetic and very knowledgeable about the history of the food as well as sites on the way to each restaurant. Food varied from hamburgers, to French cuisine, to BBQ. very yummy!
It costs extra for beer or wine but well worth it.
This tour is awesome! Mimi our tour guide was very knowledgeable and gave us history on everything. So it’s like having a history and culinary tour.
We tried restaurants we wouldn’t have known about and different areas of Charleston.
I highly recommend this tour it’s awsome.

Do not leave Charleston without doing this tour! King Street is known for it's culinary flavors! It's actually top 10 in the nation for it's restaurants. Just on the small strip of Upper King Street, you'll find James Beard award-winning chefs cooking up delectable dishes. On our tour, we visited spots, including probably the best mussels I've ever tasted and a brand-new pop-up restaurant serving up Polynesian and Asian inspired dishes, and best of all, they only open up the restaurants for our group! Our tour guide, Guiles, was full of beautiful history of the town and the culture. It's through this tour that we found the restaurant to celebrate our anniversary. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
A great tour that provides you with a lot of history of Charleston, as well as tasting delicious local favorite foods.
Hoon Calhoon is quite a character, and told many interesting stories. This tour is more about up and coming chefs. We went to a sports bar, a french restaurant, a BBQ place and an ice cream store for dessert. The food was delicious, but not what we expected do not take this tour if you are looking for authentic southern dishes.
Great tour! The food was fantastic and our guide, Hoon Calhoun is a wonderful storyteller, enlivening the tour with historal and cultural information along with amusing anecdotes.
The tourguide, Charlie was great. We wished we could have learned more and heard more from the chefs about the meal preps. Food was great. Maybe we should have skipped lunch because this was definitely enough food to be called dinner! Good restaurant selections!
I was on a girlfriend getaway 7 of us in Charleston and we decided to take this tour. It was a great experience to get out of the touristy area and experience the trendy restaurants of Upper King. The food at each stop was plentiful and delicious and the dessert that we had at the bakery was the perfect way to end the tour. Our guide was informative and did a great job herding her guests. I will highly recommend this tour to anyone going to Charleston.
Excellent food, good companionship and a knowledgeable host made for a great tour.
Our guide was great and gave a historically accurate context of how Native Americans and slaves influenced the local Charleston cuisine.
Food was okay, but not very Southern. Restaurants were a little shabby, and seating was not easy to come by. Last restaurant was Italian. I was expecting Southern food.
We booked this tour to get a taste of unique Cuisine that Charleston boasts as it's own and learn about what makes it special...
Our 1st stop was a turkey burger slider and fried calamari?
2nd stop was mussels, brussel sprouts and frites... mussels were the definite highlight of the tour
3rd stop was BBQ and a chicken wing...served on a tin tray...the wing being the highlight
Our last stop was a gelato shop..? Not sure why...
There was never a story of why we visited these restaurants or what made them an example of the cities Cuisine
So of course we were disappointed... the guide was friendly however didn't provide the history or story along with the experience!
We have used Viator from Paris to New Orleans so I must say I had a higher expectation of what could have been done to show off Charleston culinary scene!
Save your money or better yet try the other Charleston food tour. It is really pushing a neighborhood they are trying to revitalize. The history falls short of the enormous history Charleston has to offer. Our guide, Hoon, was so long winded, talking about himself, that the tour ran over a full hour from what was advertised. Some of the restaurants were marginal. Our guide told us we were going to a French restaurant where one of the dishes was a potato dish I had eaten at Antionne's in New Orleans. It was not even close. They very literally served us French fries.
Charley was a great tour guide and King Street tour shows a new renovated and exciting part of the Charleston scene!
Well worth the money spent. Our guide was awesome and the food was excellent.
Everything was first rate. The food was terrific and the tour guide was entertaining. And it ended with ice cream - what more can I say.
The legendary Hoon was our guide who extolled at the end of the tour his distaste for northerners by shaking his fist in the air, complete with tears x 4 quoting a movie we will never go hungry. It was the most distasteful narrative Ive ever witnessed, I was embarrassed in front of my guests and will never use this company again. We also went on their mixology tour which consisted of someone walking us to the entrance of the bar, and escorting us to the next x 3. No narrative what so ever. I called Oscar who identified himself as an owner of Charleston Culinary Tours who simply stated It was an act. I then commented that even made it more embarrassing if it was deliberate, at which point he said well it is his family heritage. Use Bulldog Tours next time.
