Martillo Island is home to an incredible colony of Gentoo and Magellanics penguins between September and April.
The rookery hosts around 1000 nests and is one of the three Magellanic penguin rookeries in Tierra del Fuego. There is also a small colony of 9 breeding couples of gentoo penguins (Pygocelis Papua) the only one in South America.
Enjoy a 1-hour guided walk among the penguins in groups of 20 persons. It's truly an unique experience.
The penguins share the habitat with other birds, such as skúas, petrels, cormorants, vultures and South American terns.
Then you will sail back to Harberton Farm where you will enjoy free time to visit this traditional Estancia. Walk around the gardens, the historic buildings, visit the Marine Mammals and Sea Birds Museum Acatushun and admire the views of the End of the World.

the tour is worth every penny you are very close to the penguins I would do it again
We had an excellent guide, Anna, who seemed to know everything about the area an its flora and fauna, The bus driver and the boat captain were great as well. Walking with the penguins was the highlight of our trip so far. Other excursions do not get this close to the. Penguins. This is the best!
Excellent tour. We enjoyed the whole experience. The drive to the estate was breathtaking as you pass mountains, valleys, and lakes. The actual hour with the penguins is unforgettable. It was fascinating to see how the penguins behave. You literally walk among the penguins and can see how the different species of penguins live and pass their time. The guide was always cordial and interesting. We also fully enjoyed the time at the estate - the cake and coffee, as well as the museum tour. This tour is a must if you go to Ushuaia.
Fantastic tour. Get up close to penguins in their natural habitat.great guide. Worth every penny.
This was an incredible experience! This is the only tour allowed on the island itself, as they continue to conserve the penguin population. Our guide was an Ushuaia native, and had SO many things to share about the area and history. The tour was fully bilingual. We were lucky to have warm weather and sun, which made the experience even more magical. I highly recommend this tour- a chance to learn more about penguins, and see their fascinating habitat!
It was a lot of fun being that close to so many penguins in their natural habitat. My wife was absolutely thrilled by the experience. Seeing the penguin nests and juveniles up close was very educational. Lots of good pictures and videos. As luck would have it, we took a Beagle Channel cruise the following day and ended back with the penguins. There is no comparison between the two penguin experiences. One does not appreciate how many penguins there were beyond the shore and get to experience being in the nesting area when stuck on the boat.
Great trip and wonderful view of the pinguins. Our guide Augustine and the driver Gabriel were great, telling captivating stories about the area and they made the trip fantastic! All logistics were smooth!
Awesome, incredible trip. I have never been up close to such magnificent creatures. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable and made sure we took care not to disturb the penguins. This was an unbelievable experience.
This tour was amazing. Loved the time with the penguuns and the museum visit. Guide and driver both excellent. Weather not kind only negative was communication from local company. Start of tour was late due to weather and we were left waiting at pickup point in rain not advised about delay.
Loved this tour!
Our guide was very informative on our ride out of Ushuaia to the first location. Once we boarded the boat it was a small 10 minute ride to the island of penguins, bring warm clothing! The island is very windy and it can get chilly.
We were able to get within 6 feet of the penguins and we were able to spend an hour and a half taking photos and admiring the animals. We were able to see three different species of penguins, which is rare as the King penguins are not always present.
After, we went to the one museum located at the ranch and were able to look through the expanive collection that had been collected over the years.
I highly recommend this tour!
