Returns to original departure point
Departing from your El Calafate hotel, you'll head to the Bajo de las Sombras (Under the Shadows) port. After a quick 20-minute sail, you'll reach the opposite shore and the base of the Perito Moreno Glacier. Here, the guides will help you pick out a crampon, special metal spikes worn on your boots for traction. Then, your adventure begins as you hike along the Rico Arm to reach the glacier.
With your crampons fastened, head out for the real adventure as you embark on a 1.5 hour walk across the glacier. Your guide will be there to tell you about the famous Perito Moreno Glacier while trekking. At the end of the walk, enjoy lunch (bring your own) before continuing on.
Finish up your adventure as you cross the Rico Arm again, which leads you to a footbridge located in front of the glacier for one last glance at the beautiful glacier. Then, make your way back to the road that cuts between the forest of lengas and the pier. Board a bus that will take you to the glacier's viewpoint and footbridges, where you have an hour to enjoy before heading back to your hotel.

This tour is very nice. You get to see the Perito Moreno really well and it's very special to hike a glacier.
I wouldn't recommend booking this tour through Viator though. You still have contact the local tour operator to confirm a few things, so you might as well book the tour with the local tour operator Hielo y aventura, which is about 50-100 cheaper per person. We booked it in advance because the local tour operator didn't accept Mastercard and we were afraid the tours would be fully booked but there's always a spot left.
Absolutely incredible trip! The highlight of my trip to Patagonia. Every staff member along the way was kind and just fantastic. The bus pick up came a bit late, but they had called my hotel ahead of time to alert me. The scenery was indescribable. I wish we could have spent more time on the walkway but agreed with the design of the tour to have more time on the actual glacier. The chocolate and whiskey at the end of the trip was a very nice touch. The hike does not require you to be in shape, although it does help as the climb can be steep at times. However, the crampons make the climb almost effortless. I read a review that said stop reading and reserve this tour. I listened, and I again pass that on to you!
What a great tour! Very friendly staff, great transport to the glacier with a really nice and knowledgeable tour guide. We had a fantastic time! Perito Moreno was stunning, such a good experience! The mini-trek was definitely the highlight of the tour, definitely recommend it!
Very unusual experience. The hike on the glacier was great. The later view from the observation deck was fantastic. Guides were great.
Excellent experience. We celebrated with whiskey and chocolate at the end. Guides were extremely knowledgeable and emphasized safety. I would do it again. Scenery is amazing.
What an amazing experience. Breath taking at every moment. There is no more beautiful place in the world than the Perito Moreno Glacier. I wish I could capture the sounds of the glacier in my photos. A must for anyone visiting El Calafate. I still can't believe I actually hiked in the glacier. I'm not very fit and was worried but it was no problem. Tip: bring hiking boots and gloves as gym shoes hurt in crampons and gloves are required. The tour guides were knowledgeable and friendly without getting in the way of a true experience. Would love a repeat of this tour!
Fantastic experience! Hiking on the glacier was easy and fun! The guides were knowledgeable and fun! Don't just go look at the glacier, hike it as well! It is worth the money and time!
OMG, must do! Simply just book it and don't read any other reviews. Only advice is to bring your own gloves which are required. Well worth it
Ice trekking is a must. Excellent guides, very nice and helpful. Well organized. A great adventure.
Really good, prompt pick up in the morning, and really helpful guides. Would love to do this again.
Absolutely amazing! One of a kind experience, very easy to do. Gives you an opportunity to see the glaciers in few different ways!
Perito Merino glacier is a must see and if you want a very easy introduction to crampon walking on ice with good guides and much good humour and a whisky on the ice to finish this is the tour for you. We had a fun day with an extremely comfortable bus to get us there and back. The balcony walk to get the overview of the glacier and watch it crack and split if you're lucky was a lovely way to finish this trip too. Not too far from El Calafate. Highly efficient tour and great guide we hope Julio will come and visit us on his way to the glaciers in the south of New Zealand sometime
Spectacular glacier seen through a well-organized tour featuring trekking on the glacier, seeing the massive wall of ice from a boat, and hiking along the cliffs opposite the glacier in the National Park. Great guides, informative, fun and orchestrated like clockwork -- a very professional operation
A great tour! A must do if you are ever in Calafete. This was hands down the highlight of our trip to Argentina.
The Perito Moreno Glacier is like the Grand Canyon- photos don't do it justice. You have to experience it in person to fathom the size and beauty of it. Our guides were multilingual, really friendly, and highly expert. 1.5 hours walking the glacier was just right. At the end of the walk we were surprised with free whisky and alfajores, which was a really nice treat.
It is a good hike. Never been on a glacier so this was quite an experience for me.
Unforgetable experience and especially our complements to Walter the tourguide
