This full-day tour is considered one of the most beautiful and complete tours in the region. It allows you to discover different landscapes and learn about the life of the inhabitants of this large Puna Region.
You will depart going through Campo Quijano and travel parallel to the famous “Tren a las Nubes” (The Train to the Clouds) Railway appreciating each of the bridges, stations, tunnels and viaducts it goes through. You will also be able to enjoy “Quebrada del Toro” (Bull Gorge) where you will stop to take in the beauty of the different views you are offered. Then you will reach Santa Rosa de Tastil which is a little town of no more than 50 inhabitants, and will see the museum and Tastil ruins. Then you will head through “Abra Blanca” where you will reach the maximum height of 4080m (13,385ft) above sea level. From there you will be able to contemplate the impressive snow-covered Mountain Acay.
Afterwards you will make your way into the Puna Region with its lunar landscape and finally reach “San Antonio de los Cobres”. After a break for lunch (not included), you will take the route 40 see the local fauna consisting of vicuñas, llamas, zuris, foxes and condors. The next stop is going to be in the beautiful Salinas Grandes (a salt flat).

Overall a thoroughly enjoyable day. The bus had big windows, so that you could admire the beautiful views of the mountains from any seat. Guide was friendly with a good level of English. However, would've liked some more time at Pumamarca because it was a beautiful little village but we barely had enough time to walk around the market. Also we arrived to see the 7 colour hill as the sun was setting and we couldn't see any of the colours due to the back lighting. This moment was a little disappointing and wish we'd seen it during the morning, when it is seen at it's best.
A really fantastic way to get an insight of the amazing landscape that Argentina has to offer. The tour guide was very enjoyable at all, whether the explanation about points of interests or his knowledge about general things about the locals. He was very good to understand ether way very good english and clear for tourists in spanish. The bus driver did a very good job as well during the long 12+ hours day. The only con has been the circumstance that’s more a sightseeing only tour, with very short stays at each places that we loved to explore even longer (San Antonio de Cobre was only a drive through with a stopover to have lunch, no
exploring by foot. The other thing in Salinas Grandes, consider if you need to make use of the toilets and waste your time being in the queue or have time to make remarkable footage out in the salt field ;-)
Would definitely recommend to take that tour!
A long day in a minivan with enough stops and a lunch on the way to finally arrive at the Salinas Grandes. A lot of beautiful and different landscapes to be seen along the way. Our guide was professional and enthusiastic and told us a lot. Overall an interesting experience!
Really great tour. Our guide was good, we had a small group of english and spanish speaking people so he had to do the commentary twice. The only issue was sometimes he was hard to understand on the bus sound system, but he was knowlegeable, friendly and had a sense of humour. The scenery at this time of the year was like being on mars! Despite reaching over 4000 metres there was no snow but it was still stunning. The lunch was fine - we tried a few local specialties, as they say when in Rome... We could certainly feel the effects of the altitude and they warn you about it - deeper breathing, tired muscles etc, but it was ok as long as you did nothing strenuos. The trip across the high plateau makes you realize how big the area is and the salt flats are an entirely different experience. We were lucky to drive right across them - apparently thats not that common. The only issue I have is that Purmamarca felt like a bit of an add-on and was quite hurried. Would have liked to spend an hour or 2 wandering this beautiful town we only got 20 minutes or so. The drive back from there to Salta is LONG, so be aware of that. A full 12 hour day, over 500km travelled - it's great until after the salt flats then a bit of a yawn back from Purmamarca but I guess it's a long way and you have to get back somehow! Overall would recommend, the scenery is amazing but be prepared for a long day.
Our guide was not the most professional one but very sympathetic and did her best. We enjoyed even though her English was not excellent. The landscapes along the route are very impressive. There is a lot of time spent sitting in the car. However, we made several stops, quite quick though. The trip is worth it. We enjoyed seeing the Salinas Grandes, Purmamarca and San Antonio de los Cobres. So much beautiful views!
As there were no English speaking guides, we were moved to a smaller car with a driver/guide and translator. The car was quite uncomfortable with 3 people in the backseat for a trip that’s a very long day of driving. As well, we received pretty minimal tour guiding. Sights were pretty fantastic though
A fabulous tour! Note that is starts early in the morning to pick-up all the people and ends around 9PM depends on traffic and weather conditions. We took a perfect amount of stops to take pictures and take-in all the beautiful scenery. In addition, the rest stops for food and bathrooms were good as well. Javiar and our driver were wonderful! Really engaging and helpful the entire day! I highly recommend this tour to see lots of places in one day!
To short stops it went sometimes very stressful but the scenerice are fantastic. The guide was very keen about the railway Tren a las Nubes it is a spectacular train but that was not the purpose of the trip. The complete experience was good. I would highly recommend to go for the trip.
Great guide - engaged, loved her job, personality, unique experiences - had llama for lunch, and amazing landscapes - multi-colored fields
Well worth the long day. A fantastic trip with a great guide, Eva. She was full of stories about the places. There was so much to look at and plenty of loo stops!! We stopped for the best views as well. Eva gave us Coca leaves to help with the altitude and we had no problems. highest point 4100m which is pretty high. Good idea to take leaves with you if you think you might have problems. The views are incredible. It was cold but sunny up at the top. A great day out. The Salt Flats are unbelievable something you have to see for yourself.
Got to see so much in one day. Awesome tour guides funny, friendly, knowledgable.
Wish we got a better view of the hill of 7 colors. The location we stopped wasn't ideal.
We had a wonderful trip. The guide was great, although the van was old, in poor condition with poor ventilation, and part of the air-con unit actually broke while we were traveling - almost falling on a passengers head. It could've been a disaster.
We only stopped at a cafe and over priced souvenir shop in Purmamaca - it wasn't until the end when I realised we were meant to look around the town. This happened possibly because we stopped to help a tourist change a tyre in the middle of nowhere and were tight for time.
The landscape is outstanding, and the guides knowledge was terrific, but be prepared for 12 hours in the van.
This was a superb tour. Though it is a long day, it is worth it. It is a lot of time in the bus, but, you travel 540 km during the day and get plenty of stops to see amazing scenery. The stops were of a good length. You never felt rushed to get back to the bus, without seeing what you wanted to. The guide was very good and spoke excellent English. Because most passengers were Spanish speakers, you do get to hear everything twice, but, this doesn't diminish the overall enjoyment of the tour.
Again an email stating time and address of pickup the day before the event. The guide was excellent, the scenery outstanding.
