Discover the city of La Plata on this day trip from Buenos Aires! Explore the capital of the province of Buenos Aires with your local, bilingual guide. After pickup from your Buenos Aires hotel, depart on a 35-mile (57-km) ride to La Plata.
Visit the Cathedral of La Plata, one of the largest churches in Argentina. Inspired by European cathedrals, the Cathedral of La Plata is located near the center of the city, making it one of the most prominent structures in the city. Continue exploring and make your way to the National University of La Plata, where you'll visit the Natural Science Museum. Home to over 2 million artifacts, your guide will show you around and teach you about some of the objects collected at the museum, including ancient dinosaur fossils from Patagonia.
Then, head to the astronomical observatory, where you’ll learn intriguing facts about the stars and galaxies. Next, visit the Teatro Argentino de La Plata, home to one of Argentina's leading opera houses. Tour the theater and take a behind-the-scenes look at where the performers prepare before going on stage. After a day of exploring, enjoy a relaxing drive back to your hotel in Buenos Aires.

This tour is a great way to see life in Argentina outside of Buenos Aires. It offers a couple of stops and last just about the length offered we hit traffic in both directions and it lasted about 4.5 hours. The first stop is at the cathedral in the photo which is beautiful some may be disappointed with the length of time there, only about 10 minutes. The second stop is the Natural Museum of La Plata, which is really great. It's cool to see dinosaur bones and animals found in South America, in addition to just visiting a museum outside of the US.
The pick up for this tour is from hotels within the city center, so you'll need to get to a hotel if you're staying outside of that.
This is a fast trip and, as indicated in the narrative, intended to introduce you to the city. For those of us who are on a tight schedule it does provide a taste of what is outside Buenos Aires. If you have the time I suggest a full day trip. Note the colorful houses that Viator shows on the trip page are NOT in La Plata, not a problem for use but disappointed one of the folks on the tour. You can see them on the Buenos Aires tour.
The picture does not show the actual place, in fact this looks like La Boca then La Plata, and it was disappointed with the tour guide, not much explanation given on the way to la plata. While we were in there she bought entrance ticket and we went to the catheral and natural science musuem by ourself. Did not go any whereelse that was mentioned in the add. Not worth the time and money because it was not what was advertised.
This trip was not what it was advertised. We spent 20 minutes at the Cathedral and 40 minutes at the Museum and headed back- this was not a five hour tour and you should not cost this much. We only went to the Cathedral and the Museum, even though we also paid for the astronomical observatory, where you’ll learn intriguing facts about the stars and galaxies and the Teatro Argentino de La Plata, home to one of Argentina's leading opera houses. Tour the theater and take a behind-the-scenes look at where the performers prepare before going on stage. These things never happened.
This was not corrected although it was noted in another comment in November 2012. Please do not advertise what you are not going to offer. Also, tell the tour guide it is rude to be on her cell phone the entire tour. She got off the phone to tell us a few things but was on it all the other times so there was no opportunity to ask a question.
This trip was okay, but when I requested an English speaking tour, I thought the guide would be a little more fluent. She would first discuss in Spanish what we were seeing, and by the time she got around to broken English, we were often past the landmark and had missed it.
It's a good alternative if you'd like to visit places outside of Buenos Aires. I liked the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception as well as the Museum of Natural Sciences.
I was dis-appointed that we did not do a couple of things that were on my list. For example, my information said we would be taking a tour of the opera house, and that we would go to the observatory also. The tour guide said she was not aware that was on the agenda, so we did not do it. barbara
