Spend a full day shore excursion soaking up the sights of Rio de Janeiro starting from Cruise Terminal Pier Mauá. Begin with a trip to see the Christ the Redeemer Statue atop Corcovado Mountain, followed by a panoramic visit to the Maracanã stadium and additional stops at the Sambódromo (Sambadrome), the Metropolitan Cathedral, and the Selarón Steps. After lunch at a steakhouse, ride the cable cars up Sugarloaf Mountain.
Get picked up from the Cruise Terminal Pier Mauá and drive up to the Christ the Redeemer statue - one of the New Seven Wonders of the World - on top of Corcovado Mountain. The drive is short and beautiful, traveling through the Tijuca Forest - one of the largest urban forests of the world - before opening up to incredible views of the entire city.
Once you're back at sea level, drive past the legendary Maracanã soccer stadium and head to Sambódromo, the location of Rio's exciting Carnaval. Pay a visit to the distinctive Metropolitan Cathedral, a modern structure that takes influence from Mayan pyramids. Check out the brightly colored tiles of the world-famous Selarón Steps, one of Rio's most distinctive landmarks. Then head to a local steakhouse to sit down to a delicious barbecue lunch.
After lunch, make a final trip to Sugarloaf Mountain, located in the Urca neighborhood. Ride a series of 2 cable cars en route to the summit, first arriving at Urca Hill, and then continuing to the top of Sugarloaf, reaching a height of 1,295 feet (395 m). Conclude the tour with an exquisitely beautiful panorama of Rio de Janeiro. Return to the Cruise Terminal Pier Mauá.

We did this tour while on a cruise that stopped in Rio for an overnight visit. We were rushed at times and didn't get back to the ship until 6:30pm so I would only recommend if you are doing an overnight there. Guides were at the port to meet us as scheduled- through a local company called C2Rio, which seemed to be the company used by several others as well. The tour is a great way to see the major attractions if you only have one full day in Rio. Expect long lines waiting to get to top of Christ the Redeemer and Sugarloaf- once there we were given 40 min at each place for photos and on our own which was way too long and could have been spent adding more time to lunch stop. We only drove past Sambodromo because they were getting ready for Carnaval- also a very quick drive by past Copacabama beach. If you were on the wrong side of the van you couldn't see or take photos and driver should have circled so everyone could see these sights. Heavy traffic everywhere. The big disappointment was the included lunch at the Cruzeiro Do Sul churrascaria - it was a very low end one and we were rushed through lunch with the servers making rounds only twice with the various meats and they started serving the meat as soon as we started eating our salads. Not a traditional one that uses the red and green cards. After rushing through twice with the various meats they moved on to another group and would not return to our table. Servers did not speak English. Drinks or desserts were not included and soft drinks are about $2.50 USD each. We didn't have desserts since we were rushed. Quality of the meats were very low end. This tour cost was less than half of what the cruise ship charges for their same tour and included a little more such as stopping at the cathedral and seralon steps and would recommend the tour. As long as you know what to expect and the lunch being at a low end churrascaria you will have a good comprehensive tour of Rio in one day.
