Itinerary
This is a typical itinerary for this product

Stop At: Santa Teresa, Rio de Janeiro, State of Rio de Janeiro

Time to explore one of Rio's most beloved neighbourhoods, Santa Teresa. While this is mostly a Rio walking tour, we'll start with a little public transit, shall we? Take the subway downtown so you can experience how locals get around Rio and help orientate yourself in the city.

Duration: 20 minutes

Stop At: Carioca Aqueduct, Rio de Janeiro, State of Rio de Janeiro

We'll hop off at Carioca Station and wander through the Financial District, home of huge companies such as Petrobras and BNDES. Check out Carioca Square, once the main source of drinking water in Rio, transported in by the Aqueducts of Lapa.

Duration: 10 minutes

Stop At: Carioca Aqueduct, Rio de Janeiro, State of Rio de Janeiro

From here, we'll climb aboard the tram for the journey up to Santa Teresa, which is a 20 minute ride over the aqueducts which are now used as the tram route. This is the last tram line in Brazil that is used solely for transportation purposes.

Duration: 20 minutes

Stop At: Santa Teresa, Rio de Janeiro, State of Rio de Janeiro

Hopping off at Largo dos Guimaraes, it's time to explore the cobblestone streets of Santa Teresa! We'll wander about on foot and discover beautiful architecture, art galleries, restaurants, and local costumes that characterise Santa Teresa.
One of Rio's oldest neighbourhoods, Santa Teresa, situated high on a hill overlooking Rio, enchants locals and visitors alike with its cobbled streets and eclectic architectural styles. The views of the city centre and the bay aren't too shabby either. (Okay, they're stunning, but that's hardly a surprise...we're in Rio, after all!).

Duration: 1 hour

Stop At: Centro Cultural Municipal Parque das Ruinas, Rio de Janeiro, State of Rio de Janeiro

Previously a neighbourhood dominated by the elite, with their departure to more modern suburbs of Rio, Santa Teresa has been transformed into an artistic centre with many artists choosing the area as their preferred place of residence. Among the attractions in Santa Teresa is the Ruins Park and its gorgeous view over downtown Rio de Janeiro and Guanabara Bay. Many visitors compare Santa Teresa to the bohemian district of Montmartre in Paris, and we'd stay that's a pretty fair comparison.

Duration: 20 minutes

Stop At: Escadaria Selaron, Rio de Janeiro, State of Rio de Janeiro

During the Carnival, many street bands perform on the streets and the most famous one is “Bloco das Carmelitas”, which was named after the local convent, which we'll see on our way back towards the Lapa District. As our Santa Teresa Rio tour winds down, we have one final (and rather important) stop to make: Selaron's Staircase. This masterpiece and picturesque icon is one of the late artist's most famous pieces, and is without a doubt one of the highlights of this Rio tour. They always say to end on a high note, don't they?!

Juliana was a terrific guide and we had a small group of 6 people. Going on the subway, tram and bus was wonderful as the subway is in a mountain and the tram on the aquaduct unique. A very personal way to see some sights. Highly recommended.

We had a great morning with our Guide Juliana in Santa Teresa. The place is just amazing and it was really nice to walk around there. She explained us a lot of things about the neighboorhood but also about Rio and about Brasil in general. We also had the chance to take the smal tram to go up, wich was very charming...

We had done a full day of the Rio the day before sure we were a little unsure about doing this as we thought it might be a lot of the same. Let me tell you it was not! We were all so glad we did this. This tour was probably one of the top tours we have ever done.! It is a 100 must tour of Rio. Ivan was by far one of the best tour guides I have ever had. Hands down!

Urban Adventures is a great travel agency in Rio de Janeiro I was lucky to come across during my Rio exploration.
I had a big pleasure to meet Juliana and spend half day on our Santa Teresa tour.
From the very beginning Juliana was able to put smile on my face even though I was robbed on the street 2 days earlier. She was very smiley, optimistic and full of energy.
Our tour was well organized. We were well taken care of. Our guide was very knowledable. We were provided with first hand information, some interesting personal stories as well.

I don't remember our tour guide's name but he was fantastic. Our tour group was very small only my friend and I and another guy it was very intimate. It felt like 4 friends walking around Santa Teresa I'm also glad it was early in the morning because by noon it started to get crowded when we completing our tour.

Juliana was a great guide on this half-day tour through Santa Teresa. I recommend including this tour as part of your Rio itenerary. Aside from a ride on the iconic street car, you see the historic architecture and laid-back vibe of this quaint neighborhood. We stopped at a locally run shop that featured local artists' work. I purchased a small painted soapstone box. Juliana also took us to a small cafe that serves arguably the best pao de quiejo in all of Rio, and serves the most refreshing acai smoothies. We also saw the Selaron staircase, which is another Rio landmark.

Julianna was a friendly and Knowledgable host. We learnt a lot about the area and she took us to her favourite café for the most amazingly tasting cheese balls. There was plenty of time to take in all the sites of Santa Teresa. Thank you Julianna. You made our trip so very special. Thanks also for sharing the photos of us during our tour.

it was really a small group : 4 our guide Juliana who then had more time for everyone. It is a very good idea to avoid the tourist bus and instead use public transports. The bus up to Santa Teresa is worth the ride to get a light taste of local life as well as the tram on the way back over the Lapa arches. When walking in the streets you get a completely different knowledge of the city.
We were very lucky to have such a pleasant and competent guide.

An excellent way to see the hidden Rio. Off the main tourist attractions, and got a nice ride back down on the original tram.

Alex our guide showed up right on time. Gave us an overview and off we went. Great subway system rocketed us from Copacabana to downtown and around. Fantastic area with the Seleron tiled staircase. Bused up to Santa Teresa and came back down on the tram.
Brought back to Copa by Alex on the subway. I would term the tour progressive....it moves right along. Note temps. rose to 104ºF that
day and we are in our 70s. A little tired but got water and breaks along the way. Pretty cool deal and great value!

A must-do for any visitors to Rio. Definitely a different experience than the beach or other tourist sites. The trolley ride alone is worth it--hopefully they will expand the service of this trolley again one day.
