Overview Overview

In the heart of Rio’s West Zone, the former residence of the architect hosts one of the most significant collections of tropical and subtropical plants in the world. Burle Marx as landscapist, executed more than two thousand projects, among which the most public in the city of Rio de Janeiro, the projects for the Flamengo Park and the Copacabana Boardwalk; as a plastic artist he went from painting to tapestry.

In addition to the landscaping of gardens and plant collections, it has an important museological and bibliographical collection, divided into the three sets of main properties that are part of the institution

In the house, as in the time in Burle Marx there lived, are preserved the furniture, the collections of sacred art, paintings and sculptures of the own and of contemporary artists, pre-Columbian art, works of Brazilian popular art in ceramics of the Valley of Jequitinhonha, objects of decoration, as well as a collection of shells.

The Sitio Roberto Burle Marx is a Center for Landscaping, Botany and Nature Conservation studies inserted in a vegetation region native to the Pedra Branca Massif, west of the city of Rio de Janeiro. Built by the architect Roberto Burle Marx in his residence in the city’s West Zone, the site Burle Marx offers its 365 thousand square meters in a trip by beautiful gardens. The landscape brought together one of the most important collections of tropical and subtropical plants in the world, which has more than 3,500 species. This large set of live plants adapted perfectly to the habitual nature of the site, consisting of mangroves, sandbank and the Atlantic Forest.
