This tour will take you to the highest of the Andes by the international road to Argentina. The route gives a postcard view of the most imposing and beautiful mountains, including one of the most beautiful lagoons in the Andes mountains. The lagoon has an intense emerald green color and transparency that reflects the vastness of the surrounding mountains. It tells the sad story of a beautiful Inca princess who, when she died, her husband deposited the body of his beloved in the bed of the lagoon, turning the color of the waters to emerald green, like the eyes of the princess.

Aside from stunning mountain scenery on this tour, you will also be able to see ruins of the Inca empire, where llama caravans stopped to rest after a long travel for the Inca Trail. You will also get to observe the ruins of an intricate route of the Transandino railway winding between tunnels and through steep cliffs.
You will go up the road curve called el Caracol, a road which few people have seen before, at an altitude of almost 8800 feet (2680 m), where you find the Hotel Portillo and ski resort. This historical hotel has received several visits by important political figures around the world, world champions, artists and others. With over 100 years of operation, it is the oldest winter resort in South America.
To make this tour unforgettable, you will also visit the San Esteban vineyard, one of most traditional vineyards in the Aconcagua Valley. This vineyard shares the international success it has achieved through the Chilean wine industry. The San Esteban vineyard offers tours of its facilities with wine experts who will tell about the advantages and strong sides of their wines and tell us the history of the vineyard as you go through its different locations.
Enjoy a splendid day in the Andes including a magnificent vineyard and ski resort.

Fransisca the quide was a friendly young woman, her english was perfect.
Wine tasting with a snack at a beautifull location and a spectacular vieuw at the lagoon.
The driver and the quide were a good team.
Excellent tour, well managed with a great informative guide. Highly recommended with the lake being a highlight
Loved this tour the scenery and nature was just what I wanted to see The photo opportunities were excellent and we had fabulous weather Loved the the drinks and snacks
A nice tour. Part of the fun is getting there on the road through the Andes with 29 switchbacks. The winery tour is one of the better ones in the area.
It was a great time. Lunch at Portillo hotel was excellent. San Esteban vineyard was fun and the wines were great. The guide was great.
Our tour guide was Chris and he did a really great job. He picked the two of us up at our hotel at 9 am and he already had five other tourists. The minivan was big enough to hold all of us comfortably. The vineyard was interesting and the guide was very relaxed as he gave us a thorough tour. We then had a wine tasting of their fine product. We then continued up the side of the Andes until we were about a mile from the Argentina border. There, there was a self-paid lunch followed by the descent to Santiago. We arrived back at our hotel at about 5 pm. A very pleasant day that showed us a lot about Chile.
This is a long day in terms of distance travelled but it was worth it. The winery visited was harvesting and I was able to get into the processes in the vineyard. Two wines were offered for tasting. The trip continued to the Andes and a final drive up the mountainside of 29 traverses......if you dont like heights.....dont look down. Once at the top....the lagoon is beautiful. Again, be aware.....lunch in the hotel is expensive......they have a captive audience. A long day but well paced in terms of time at each venue.
Perfect adventure. Angelina and Rodrigo promptly picked me up at my hotel. There's was a very nice group of people in the van for the experience. While Rodrigo expertly drove, Angelina gave a lay of the land, how the climate is perfect for grapes and many fruits and vegetables. Angelina also pointed out an old rail line that use to go Portillo. Before I knew it, we pulled into San Esteban Vineyard and were met by delightful Rosalina for her mini wine tour. Back in the van and the switchback road to Portillo. Too cool! I had a nice choice of luncheon options at reasonable prices in the Chalet overlooking the deep blue Lagoon. The altitude and thin air had me huffing and puffing a little. Hats off to these two.
Excellent tour and highly recommend Chris our tour guide who is well informed, friendly and took good care of us :
We had a great day with Christian. He was more than accommodating to us for pictures and sightseeing. Even found us an unscheduled restroom break. The tour of the winery when it was cooler in the morning was perfect. The road trip up to the Lagoon was picturesque and unforgettable. I would highly recommend this tour.
Wow, I would highly recommend this tour! The view in Portillo will take your breath away! Our guide Chis was very informative and he kept us laughing. We really enjoyed the wine tour as well.
This was a fantastic tour ! We would highly recommend it to anyone. Great guide, great wine, great views, careful driving... We had a really nice day and would definitely do it again.
It was an awesome trip. Great guide, who was very helpful. The only downside is the food at the restaurant at the Portillo Lagoon is really overcooked and not worth it. An alternate eating place would be great. Thanks.
This was the end of a holiday cruise through the Panama Canal, visiting Ecuador, Peru and Chile.
Having travelled so far from the UK nothing less than a trip into the Andes was appropriate.
The San Esteban Vineyard in the foothills of the Andes was an extensive area of grape cultivation producing several high quality wines where a guided tour was informative and wine tasting delightful.
The Portillo Inca Lagoon provided us with an amazing insight to this mountain range and at 3000m the sun was still warm.
Some more adventurous members of the party swam in the near freezing lake!
The ski resort hotel provided us with an excellent lunch not included in the tour.
An adventure enjoyed by a group of 12 people, 4 from the cruise ship and 8 individuals who were 'travelling the world' some of whom were students and others running their business's via the 'net'.
Stamps tours provided a full day 11 hours of travel on this trip with Waldo, our driver and Hector our guide.
Thank you Stamps.
This was a great day driving up into the Andes!! We stopped at a vineyard and we were given an interesting tour with delicious wine samplings. The drive was incredible with 27 switchbacks on the drive up. We had a great view during lunch at the ski resort. Chris was an interesting guide to talk with.
We wanted an experience in the Andes and Emanuel provided a very personal tour. Even though the winery stop was at 10 in the morning the hostess was wonderful and allowed us to walk through the vineyard with the high mountains all around. The drive up the mountains was impressive, especially the 30 curves. Saw a condor which not expecting. The Portillo resort was opening for ski season so we saw these steep ski runs -- in an amazing mountain setting. Food was excellent. Yes this is a lot of driving -- but it gave us the experience we anticipated. Emanuel -- keep up the good work.
As an avid traveler, I've been on my fair share of tours around the world, but none of them have compared to our amazing excursion to the Portillo Lagoon and the San Esteban Vineyard. Asides from enjoying the breathtaking views of snow capped mountains, Chile's natural wonders and the man made wonders, we learned everything about the wine making process on our vineyard tour. Our experience was made even better by our tour guide, Julio. He was very engaging, accommodating and had the most hilarious sense of humor. In addition to having a wonderful personality, Julio was very informative. Throughout our trip, he made a point of sharing his infinite wisdom about Chile's history, culture and the people with us. I would highly recommend this tour to everyone and would also recommend that you ask for Julio, as your guide.
Portillo is a must see place in Chile! We had a magical experience as we saw sunshine to snow on this tour. Throughly enjoyed the views of waterfalls and condors on the way to Portillo. The lagoon is stunning with clear blue/green water. San Esteban vineyard is beautiful with views of the Andes. We also got to see the Incan petroglyphs. We had an absolutely wonderful time with Vanessa our tour guide. She was very funny!! Thank you for looking after us Vanessa. hola hola!!!
Thanks Stamps tours!!
