Leave the teeming streets of Santiago for a bike ride in the winemaking region of Maipo Valley. After hotel pickup, travel with your guide for about 45 minutes south of the city. Upon arrival at Santa Rita winery, located in Alto Jahuel, listen as your guide takes you through a short safety briefing and provides you with a bicycle and helmet.
Hop on your bike and enjoy a leisurely cycle, pedaling along mostly flat, unpaved country roads that take you to orchards, farms and vineyards. Stop every now and then for a breather and a history lesson about the area.
At Carmen, founded in 1850, you'll learn how the winery pioneered in the cultivation of Chile's iconic carmenere grape. A red varietal originally from France, the grape vanished from European vineyards in the mid-19th century and reappeared among merlot vines in Maipo Valley a hundred years later. The deep purple grape with smooth tannins and natural fruity spiciness produces wine often described as the ‘Bordeaux of South America.’
Head over to Nativa, part of the Carmen winery, where you’ll learn about its production of cabernet sauvignon and chardonnay using certified organic grapes from Alto Maipo Valley.
Your bike ride nearly complete, enjoy your first wine tasting perched on a hilltop. As you sip your wine, breathe in fragrant mountain air and admire marvelous views of Maipo Valley and the rolling hills at the base of the Andes.
Ride along clay-baked paths back to Santa Rita for a tour of another one of Chile's oldest wineries. After you drop off your bike, enter fermentation cellars and the bottling plant; walk by the colonial-era Bodega 1 stone-and-mortar building; and stand in front of Doña Paula Restaurant to hear about an entertaining historical event that inspired its renowned 120 label. At the wine bar, enjoy three wine tastings, including carmenere, cabernet sauvignon, merlot, chardonnay or syrah.
During your remaining time, visit the wine shop, stroll the landscaped grounds, or browse through an impressive private collection of more than 3,000 pre-Columbian artifacts inside Andean Museum. Arrive back in Santiago in the afternoon and perhaps pop open a bottle from Santa Rita that evening.

Nice tour and would definitely recommend. The wine tasting host, Carlos (lol), was well informed and charismatic.
This was a fabulous tour! Our guide, Valentina was warm and friendly and gave us lots of useful information about Santiago and wine making in Chile. She took us on the bicycle ride through the vineyard which was enchanting. To get so close to the wine making process, to walk past stacks of barrels in the warm, moist air of the store was amazing. She stopped in shady places to explain the different parts of the vineyard as we rode through. Her English was excellent. Back at the centre, Victor's wine tasting taught me more about wine than many a presentation. Thank you! The drawback to the tour? I needed more time in the museum. To see the collection of gold artefacts alone is worth the trip and there are some wonderful textiles. But I've discovered I can buy wine from the Santa Rita winery from Majestic Wines, UK. Result!
This was an amazing tour and a great way to spend valentines day. We had so much fun. The paths were clear and the biking was not overwhelming. The tour was really cool, we got to go through the vineyards and find out about the growing process, the bottling process and the aging process. We also got to sample some amazing wine, it was a great tour and I'm glad we did it!
Picked up 15 min early from hotel and dropped off at tour bus depot which was extremely confusing. Once on our correct coach the rest of the day was great. Tour guides were terrific. Beautiful scenery and an easy bike ride. Bikes could use some attention though.
This was a great tour! Such a nice area and the biking was really fun. Had a great tour guide as well.
This was my first ever wine tour and I absolutely loved it! The winery was about an hour long bus ride away from Santiago. On the bus ride there, our tour guide gave us history and information about Santiago and Chile. He spoke both Spanish and English and was very easy to understand and converse with. The bike tour itself was a lot of fun! The bikes were comfortable and the pace of the tour was very good. The terrain was dirt and gravel roads. The vineyard itself was absolutely beautiful. We rode our bikes to different parts of the vineyard to learn about the grapes and taste them. We also saw some llamas and alpacas on the property, and got to see where the wine is fermented and stored. We had one wine tasting while riding our bikes at a pavilion and then 3 more wine tastings back at the main Santa Rita building. We also learned some history about the Santa Rita property during the Chilean fight for independence story of the Santa Rita 120. After the wine tastings, we had time in the gift shop and then rode the bus back to Santiago. Overall it was a very enjoyable tour and the highlight of my weekend in Santiago.
Had two guids and I thought the point of that was so that one could do the English commentary, whilst the other the Spanish but it turned out only one guide did all of the commentary so am not sure as to why we had a second guide?? But that aside thorougly enjoyed the bike ride through the vineyards and the subsequent wine tasting. Great trip which I would definitely recommend.
We really enjoyed our experience on this tour. We were picked up at our apartment block and taken to the pick up point which was very easy and convenient. Out tour guide Eduardo was knowledgeable and friendly and his English was fantastic. Lovely bike ride and very interesting. Wine tasting at the end was also brilliant. The only criticism I have is that it would have been nice to have had a small tour around the Santa Rita buildings at the end. All in all a brilliant, well organised day. Thank you.
Great experience! Well organized. We were picked up at our hotel on time. Biking was great and tour guide was outstanding with a surprise in the middle of the tour! We saw two wineries, learned quite a bit, scenery was nice and final tasting was in a beautiful setting. For the price and ease, I would highly recommend this tour!
Great day! Beautiful vineyard, fun guides and great wine. What's not to like? I also have to commend our guide Daniel who went beyond the call of duty to track my daughter and I down in a busy market because my daughter had left her phone and wallet on the tour bus. Thanks so much Daniel!
It was a great trip. The guide was very knowledgeable. Enjoyed it thoroughly.

Well organized and delivered what was promised. Excellent value and lots of fun
The vineyard and winery tour was interesting and informative. Our guide, Daniel, was knowledgeable and friendly. The scenery in the vineyards was spectacular as were the gardens around the winery. The sommelier running our tasting was knowledgeable and a lot of fun. My only regret was not havign time to eat lunch in the restaurant.
Caroline was an excellent tour guide and very knowledgeable. I had a very good trip and tour of Santa Rita. Thank you.
I thoroughly enjoyed my winery bike tour. The ground covered is mainly flat and the bike was comfortable. The tour of the Carmen winery was very interesting and the winery grounds are very pretty. Enjoyed the wine tasting and bought some red wine to take with me.
It was fantastic. Our tour guides were wonderful. I highly recommend the bike ride because you get to see the beautiful scenery and vineyards
