On your sightseeing adventure, you'll come across moai, stone giants that on average stand 13 feet (4 meters) tall and weigh 14 tons (13 metric tons). Said to represent ancestral spirits or preeminent tribal figures, some moai are placed upon
ahu, or ceremonial sites.
After hotel pickup, your guide takes you to Ahu Akahanga, located on the southeastern coast of the island. Unlike most ahu, Akahanga has not been restored, allowing you to stumble upon the area as European explorers first did. The platform, about 59 feet (18 meters) long, originally contained about a dozen moai and is believed to be the burial site of Polynesian king Hoto Matu’a.
Walk about the grounds sprawled with overturned moai that have
pukao, decorative head topknots, with tribal fighting providing one explanation for this curious scene.
Next, head north up the coastline to Ahu Tongariki, the largest ceremonial site with an impressive row of 15 upright moai. Learn how a tsunami in 1960 sent these statues, some weighing 30 tons (27 metric tons), flying several hundred feet inland. Restoration of this site took five years and was completed in 1992.
Then travel inland to Rano Raraku, where on its volcanic slopes Rapa Nui sculptors had carved moai from volcanic stone before moving about one third of them to various ahu. Many of the island’s 800-plus moai remain in the quarry and close by; as you trek with your guide toward the stone pit, you’ll see poking up from the grassy earth hundreds of moai heads or partially buried torsos.
Enjoy a barbecue lunch (provided) at a nearby camping area, which includes chicken and other meats, fish, salad, rice, fruit and water. A vegetarian option can be arranged upon request. You’ll spend about 2.5 hours in total at Rano Raraku with lunch time.
Along the northern coast, reach your final stop at Anakena and explore the extremely well-preserved seven moai of Ahu Nau Nau, four of them wearing pukao. At this site, archaeologists located one nearly complete coral eye, inlaid with red volcanic scoria stone.
Your sightseeing complete, swim or stroll along Anakena, one of the few white sand beaches on the island, for about 30 minutes before being transported back to your hotel. Or feel free to stay longer, and your guide will arrange a cab ride for you (own expense) when you’re ready to return to your accommodation. Changing rooms with showers are available on site for a small fee.

This was one of the best tour I have done. Very well organaised, very informative with very friendly group.
Guide was great and answered all questions any pf us asked about Rapa Nui people and their history.!!!
Good 1 day tour!! Went with about 15 others. The day was beautiful and enjoyed the hikes and free time to explore on your own. Lunch was fine. So much history on such a small island. Loved it.
The sights are beautiful, and the guide has a great personality, but there are some issues in translation that don't allow to connect with all the history sorrounding the island's history.
I only had one full day on Easter island, this tour was amazing because it took us to all the main sites, the tour guide spoke good English and gave us knowledge about the sites we went to, our bus driver looked like Indiana jones which made it feel more like an adventure. Anakena beach was amazing very tropical with palm trees, but I wish we had more time there, it was our last stop before heading back, we only had about half an hour to go for a swim and relax on the beach. My favourite place was rano raraku, which was where they carved out most of the islands Maoi statues, it was a hill surrounded by Maoi statues and amazing to see most of the statues were half buried in the dirt and made it an exciting place to visit, there was one statue which was the, biggest on the island standing at 8 meters high.
This tour was a great way to experience the major sights of the island. Wonderful tour guide and excellent info provided. The quarry was definitely the highlight!
Very good tour and guide, loved it, the lunch was not up to standard, mine was fed to the cats under the table.
Our guide from AkuAku Travel's Claudio was very friendly and knowledgeable. We four English speakers and about 15 Spanish speakers and he managed both groups separate, which gave us actually more time to enjoy the sites.
It was a great tour and the sites were breathtaking.
the only negative was the lunch which was very basic and not very satisfactory.
The tour guide was excellent and spent time with details which were not in the standard tour book. He was actually from one of the original inhabitants and pointed out to us his clan's moai
Our guide Claudio was great and the places we went to were interesting - including the BBQ
Great overview of island. Guide was knowledgeable and amiable. Only problem was parts of your took twice as long because it was presented first in English and then in Spanish. Lunch provided was very good.
Excellent overview of Easter Island history and geography. Guide was knowledgeable and amiable. Only negatives were delays due to presentation being given first in English and then in Spanish. Two guides could have easily done separate simultaneous talks. Lunch provided was very good.
I have already written a comprehensive review and don't have the time or inclination to do so again!
If you only have one day, this is the tour to go on! It gives a great perspective of the Island and its history. This tour and at least one of the half day tours is even better! This visit was everything I had hoped it would be!
Was great. We had 4 days on Easter Island I booked the tour for our first full day on the island. Then we could plan the rest of our days with our new found knowledge. This tour takes you to all the major sites that are out of Hanga Roa, we hiked to all the other sites. Excellent tour
This tour was excellent due to a few things: our guide, Christina, was very informative without being too talkative the scenery was, of course, beautiful with cooperative weather and the group of travelers was nice and respectful of each other.
The tour took us to the major sights in an all-day affair. Even the lunch was included. There was ample time for photos and the guide, a Rapa Nui, was knowledgeable and helpful. A great tour indeed!
The tour to take if you just want to take one guided tour. I went to visit the other sites not visited in this tour the next day and they didn't compare to the sites visited in this tour. Also elect to get the BBQ lunch if your can. I wish I did after hearing positive reviews.
