Stop At: Pueblo de artesanos de Vicuna, Gabriela Mistral 365, Vicuna Chile

We will begin our trip to the interior of the Elqui Valley at dusk, we will make a short stop in the city of Vicuña to formalize the entrance to the Mamalluca Amateur Observatory, in the respective municipal offices.

Duration: 15 minutes

Stop At: Mamalluca Observatory, Gabriela Mistral 260, Vicuna 1760000 Chile

Continuing 6 kilometers towards the northeast of the city and crossing the town of San Isidro, we will arrive at the Mamalluca Amateur Observatory. This Amateur Observatory is open to all public, but is subject to prior reservation. This special place allows to make direct observations of the Universe, the facilities have a dome with an electronic telescope of 12 inches in diameter, which allow to enjoy a pleasant night of contemplation of stars.

We will listen to a talk and projection of images about the universe and in particular about the Stars of the Southern Hemisphere, creating an atmosphere that fosters the friendly relationship of interested people and fans of astronomy with the universe of Galileo, later there will be a nocturnal observation of stars, stars, planets and galaxies, with the respective explanations.

The Southern Hemisphere is particularly interesting for astronomy, it is not accidental that four of the best and most advanced observatories of our planet, Tololo, Pachón, La Silla and Las Campanas are located in the cordilleran sector of the Coquimbo Region. These observatories, not open to the public for night visits, have adequate instruments for professional observation of astronomers.

The facilities are at 1200 meters altitude and away from the artificial light of the city, a diaphanous atmosphere, in optimal climatic conditions, with clean and stable skies most of the year, rigorously fulfilling the conditions for the correct observation of the stars

After enjoying two hours of observation of the Universe, we will begin the return to La Serena.

Duration: 1 hour 30 minutes
