Stop At: Teotihuacan Pyramids, San Juan Teotihuacan 55800 Mexico
After hotel pickup by your private guide, head about an hour northeast of Mexico City to Teotihuacan. Known as the City of the Gods, Teotihuacan was one of the largest and most important pre-Aztec cities in Mexico, home to nearly 200,000 people from several ancient cultures.
Explore the archeological site’s pyramids, plazas and palaces with your archeologist guide, who is able to give you all kinds of expert information about Teotihuacan’s physical and cultural history and answer any questions you have during your tour about buildings like the Temple of Quetzalcoatl and the Palace of Quetzalpapalotl. Hear stories about the ancient people who lived here and news about the latest archeological discoveries. See large murals, and walk along the Avenue of the Dead (Calle de los Muertos), a 1.5-mile (2.4-km) road that connects the main structures, including the Pyramid of the Moon and Pyramid of the Sun.
The Pyramid of the Moon and the Pyramid of the Sun are Teotihuacan’s most famous — and largest — structures, and you have the opportunity to climb them, if you wish, for outstanding views of the whole city.
After your tour, head back to Mexico City, stopping by an obsidian workshop on the way to meet a local family and enjoy tastings of tequila, mezcal and liqueurs made from native cactus. You may also purchase lunch here (by your own) Your day trip ends with hotel drop-off.

Timely and personalized pickup. Kevin was an exceptional guide with tons of information and supplemental materials to enrich the learning for all five adults ranging in age from 23-54. It is a must see and a half day tour was exactly enough time to take in the pyramids and have a stop for tequila tasting! Kevin customized the tour perfectly.
Roberto was an amazing tour guide for our group of 6. He was a wealth of information. Seeing the pyramids with a guide as knowledgeable as Roberto allows you to appreciate the history of the people as well as the pyramids.
We had a wonderful time learning about the history of Teotihuacan. Our guide was knowledgeable and friendly. Highly recommend!
We spent the day with Ligia-- she was knowledgeable and very friendly! Our tour was in English, as the majority of my family does not speak Spanish. We were picked up directly from our hotel and spent the morning at the pyramids. I would recommend the private tour over the larger bus tour-- it's much more intimate, and we were able to opt out of the lunch in the afternoon to return to the city where we had already made plans.
This was the best guided tour I've ever taken, hands down. Our guide Cesar was knowledgable and friendly. He told us fascinating things about Teotihuacan that we never would have known otherwise. The site is stunning, but to have someone also explain what I'm looking at makes the experience so much more meaningful. I would strongly recommend Cesar and Viator to anyone contemplating a visit!
The location was amazing, so full of history and culture. Our guide Roberto added so much to understanding the history, culture and context. He was simply wonderful and highly recommended.
Driver, Mario, and guide, Jose were awesome. A great experience for our family. Highly recommend this activity.
The trip was wonderful and our guide, Kevin, was super - upbeat, energetic, informative and patient! We had a fantastic time visiting the pyramids and we were thoroughly engaged and impressed with the expanse of the site and knowledge imparted to us. We were a group of mixed abilities and he was patient and managed us all appropriately and effectively. We truly enjoyed the day and feel it was well spent! My only recommendations would be to have a van where the windows were not covered in a wrap, making it difficult to see out beyond the front windshield. In addition, we would have loved to have seen The Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe, as we understand it was on the way. Thank you for a fantastic experience!
I had a blast here. It was a perfect day with the perfect guide (Lulu). The history. The architecture. The ability to step back in time and just imagine the Teotihuacan way of life. It was all outstanding.
I did my trip with Amigo Tours. The site was great, but having a good guide really makes the difference. Also, make sure you're physically able to manage the trip. LOTS of stairs (but you don't have to climb the whole thing if you don't want to).
Literally the best tour I have ever taken! Our tour guide was Roberto. He met us a few minutes early at our hotel and he was the best. He told us about himself and asked about me and where I came from. He is very knowledgeable and personable. The journey from our hotel to Teotihuacan was a bit of a distance, but Roberto told us about the neighborhoods we were passing nearby, so the trip was quite enjoyable. He answered every question we had. Once we made it to Teotihuacan, we were able to take in the site and all of its beauty because the crowds had not yet arrived. Roberto told of the history of the entire area, the people, the language and the Spanish conquest. We climbed both pyramids and learned more. I would not have made it to the top without Roberto's encouragement. He also doubles as a pretty good photographer! If you are looking for a day tour to the pyramids, this is definitely the one to take! Ask for Roberto!
Excellent , higly recommende , Our guide Ms Ligia was amazing !!!! She teach us a lot about Mexican culture not only ancient but also the today Mexico City , Thanks Ligia God Bless you !!!
On march 8,our guide Ligia, hope I spelt it right, was prompt on pick up, extremly knowledgeable, took time to thoroughly explain everything, and extremly pleasant to be with. She was a real dream. Our small group of 4 had an extremly enjoyable day with her.
Prompt pick up and care for my disabled husband, whose rollator had to be accomodated. Leonardo Mora is a fine guide, and helped us understand the significance of this beautiful, mysterious site at Teotehuacan.
The tour was Wonderful. Our guide Lulu was the BEST. She was like family. The tour was amazing, shopping was great and our lunch with real local delicacies was without words to describe.
Lulu made this trip the BEST TIME IN MEXICO CITY. THANKS LULU.
It was a truly outstanding tour. The guide, Ligia, was knowledgeable, gave us plenty of time, and responded to questions with a friendly and caring attitude. This was one of the best tours I have experienced in the 49 countries I have visited. My nephew and brother were very impressed and pleased. I had invited them to learn more about the history and culture of Mexico and they were sincerely impressed. The vehicle was comfortable and she drove in a safe manner. There was nothing to be disappointed in during the tour, and it has provided many cherished memories.
Fantastic tour, our guide Lulu C. was very, very knowledgeable and a lot of fun to be with. She wanted to and did every thing she could to make our tour extra special. We are fascinated with pre columbian culture and have been on many tours of ruins over the years. This tour with Lulu was one of the top ones we experienced. Knowing that we like we like to experience the local culture and food when traveling, Lulu suggested a few of the local dishes, which we tried. A fun, special day it was. Thanks
Spent the day with a most knowledgable and informative tour guide. Thanks Lulu!
Just to be clear, the tour guide is not a certified archeologist, but not sure that matters with the amount of information provided to us. I'm not sure if Viator is aware that by advertising this tour with an Archeologist, they are committing false advertising. I have yet to find a review where someone said they actually did have a tour with an Archeologist. So, if you simply must have an Archeologist, I suggest you contact the Mexico supplier and ask them specifically for an Archeologist. I tried to verify this beforehand but was unable to do so.
We were picked up up at the hotel right on time and drove out to Teotihuacan area, about an hour drive. After we visited a couple of the sites, we stopped to enjoy the box lunches I had ordered for all of us including the tour guide from the hotel. That gave us the flexibility of eating what and when we desired. We returned to the hotel at a reasonable time for a little rest, since we needed some down time before the theater reservations we had that evening. Fun day.
In any case our tour guide was very friendly, spoke quite good English and generally provided a wonderful experience. Since it really was a private tour, we were able to set our own timetable and were not restricted to a bus or specific tour schedule. Really worth the extra cost for a private tour!
Very good time. Informative guide, and the site was amazing. Oldest I have ever seen to date!
The private tour was a great option given that time was a factor for us. It certainly costs much more than a group tour, but not having to worry about where to meet the guide made planning easier and saved us time the day of the tour. As well, we wanted to get back to DF ASAP, so we skipped lunch near the site and some other small info sessions and headed back to the city right after wrapping up at Teotihuacan. Since the tour was private, we were at liberty to shorten it as we saw fit after many hours were spent at Teotihuacan.
