V&V Marina At Hotel la Amada in Playa Mujeres
Returns to original departure point at approximately 5pm
Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday
Meet your guides at Marina V&V at Hotel La Amada in Playa Mujeres. Plan to arrive by 8:30am, as the boat will leave at 9am. Please see the options available to add transportation. Make sure to bring biodegradable sunscreen, which is necessary to protect the marine life in the waters you’ll be swimming in during the tour. A comfortable vessel transports you to Ixlache Reef, north of Cancun. If you missed breakfast, there will be some on the boat for you!
Grab a pastry or whatever strikes your fancy from the continental breakfast offered between 9am and 10am. Savor your morning coffee as you take in stunning blue waters and bask in the warm air. After about a 35-minute we will have a 1 hour stop in beautiful Isla Mujeres located in the top List of Pueblos Mágicos of México for its unique beauty and folklore.Back on board and on our way to Contoy You’ll arrive at Ixlache Reef on the northern end of the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef, the second largest reef system in the world. Your guides will provide a safety briefing on snorkeling. Pull on your provided gear and jump in!
Pick a color, any color, and you’ll likely spot a fish sporting that hue flash by you. The clear and shallow water — typically no more than nine feet (three meters) deep — makes it easy to spot swirling schools as they dance around the coral and queen conchs attached to the sea floor. Keep your eyes peeled for sea turtles, too!
After about an hour of snorkeling, get back on the boat and cruise to Isla Contoy, where you’ll arrive around noon. Stretching five miles (eight kilometers) long, tiny Isla Contoy is home to more than 150 species of resident and migratory birds, such as the frigate, brown pelican and double-crested cormorant. Leatherback, loggerhead, hawksbill and green turtles use the beaches as their nesting grounds.
Because of the island’s protected status as a national park, there’s a limit to how many people can visit per day, and only a few tour companies are allowed to bring visitors here. You are one of the privileged few! .
After the tour, enjoy the island on your own at the nesting lagoon, nature museum or lighthouse. Watch your step, an iguana could be sharing the trail with you. To unwind, meander to the beach and spread out your towel, and marvel at how the soft white sand doesn’t stick to your skin.
In the early afternoon, a buffet lunch is served, with beer and soft drinks. Try the regional specialty
tikin-xic — Mayan for “dry-wing" — fish. The whole fish is prepared butterfly-style and cooked over a wood or charcoal fire.
After lunch, hop back on your vessel to arrive back at the Scuba Cancun Marina around 5pm. Time flies on the ride, as you’re probably busy scrolling through the dozens of pictures you took of this unique day.

The trip to Isla Contoy was great. The crew gave very informative presentations on the geographic, historic and ecological features on Isla Contoy and on the trip to and from the island. Isla Contoy was amazingly clean and beautiful, and the crew cooked a wonderful lunch on the boat and carted away all the waste there is no littering or fresh sweet water on the island. The snorkeling stop was quite brief, but the hour or so on Isla Mujeres was just enough for two tasty mojitos at an ocean side bar. Overall an amazing way to spend the day.
it was 5 star loved all the crew they were amazing I unfortunately got sea sick I forgot that I got sea sick 2 years ago. The lunch was great fresh fish again could not eat sea sick the birds were in their glory no humans to bother them because everyone has to leave the island by 4 pm this island is a sanctuary for the birds .. loved loved it
Great day! Super friendly staff and the most exotic and private little island getaway. We saw turtles from the boat, we say rays, a flamingo flying over and a tiny reef shark. Just a tip - no sunscreen allowed on the island so bring a hat and cover up as much as possible.
The trip is about from 9 AM to 5 PM. First we have been taken to a wonderful place for snorkeling, then we stayed half an hour at Isla Mujeres and finally 3 hours in Isla Contoy, which is wonderful. Take into account that snorkeling is from the boat. In isla Contoy there is a magnificent natural beach and also a guided small tour of the island, where you can see frigates from really close. Breakfast was normal fruit and a brioche, lunch was great buffet with roasted fish, rice, vegetables, nachos, pico de gallo, chicken and other options, free bar all the time, with water, juices, beer, tequila and pina colada.
Paradise Island, fantastic snorkelling, open bar and an amazing crew made this trip one of the most memorable! Highly recommend this tour to everyone, the beaches on Contoy are breathtaking and the wildlife is rich and diverse making it extra special.
Thank you, we will be back in the future :)
Our Captain was Himal and our guide is Alexis E Castillo. In total there were about 25 of us in the tour with about half Spanish speakers and half English speakers. The crew was very friendly during the entire trip and seems like they enjoyed the tour themselves . Free flow alcohol the entire trip. Snorkeling was very fun and Isla Contoy was just amazing. We did stop by Isla Mujeres on our way back for about an hour, which to us was a bonus.
Breakfast was provided when we were waiting for the boat and we had a lunch buffet prepared by the crew on Isla Contoy. The buffet was delicious. My only suggestion would be to come up with a solution for the mosquito situation, as I believe we were not allowed to bring repellent to the island and there was indeed quite a lot of mosquito.
I would rate 5/5 with our experience with Alexis and the crew and would recommend family, young couple to join this tour!
Tour started with ~20 min snorkelling off Cancun, we saw lots of colourful fish. Isla Contoy is so beautiful, not many people there so it felt like paradise. Beautiful island. We had lunch and chilled on the beach before heading to Isla Mujeres for 1h and then back to Cancun.
We would highly recommend this tour!! Amazing tour guides, incredible lunch buffet on the beautiful Island of Contoy, snorkeling, white sandy beaches - all made for a perfect day in 'Paradise'!! We would definitely do this tour again!!
Weather was less than desirable for snorkeling but the crew made the best of it and when getting to the Island they had a meal for us that was excellent...what a surprise! Very friendly!
Crew on the boat was excellent personable and interested in needs of their guests. Delivered everything they promised. Went snorkeling, visited Isla Contoy with its amazing wildlife and they cooked an excellent lunch.
Wonderful experience so many fish and so many colors a must for the avid snorkeler!
This is flat-out the best excursion I have ever had in Cancun. The guides were extremely nice and knowledgeable. They kept the boat ride entertaining and fun. The reef where you snorkel is out of this world. Beautiful plants and marine life everywhere. Saw all kinds of fish, some turtles and a sting ray. It was amazing. After 20 minutes or so you head to the Island where the drinks and food start flowing. The island is beautiful. Due to the low number of people allowed on it, its not hard to find a little piece of the island to call your own. I would definitely recommend this to anyone and am planning to do it again when I go back to Cancun.
Wonderful atmosphere the crew was welcoming, energetic, informative and had your needs in their best interest. It was an awesome tour and I highly recommend it to everyone!
The tour itself was amazing. My only recommendation is to check the conditions before you book the tour. It rained a lot for the 3 weeks prior to our visit so Isla Contoy was infested with mosquitos. Evem with 4 different types of repellent, we were still covered with bites and it ruined it for us.
This was some of the best snorkeling we have had in the Caribbean. We saw a turtle resting in thereef, a nerf shark, some porpoises playing, and some beautiful purple fan coral. We were rained out several days, but we got to go on a beautiful day later. The food at the island was terrific, with some of the best Amberjack fish I have ever tasted.
What a beautiful island. The boat ride was enjoyable and the stop for snorkeling was fabulous. We saw lots of coral, fish and sea life. The island was quiet and the tour to the other side was interesting. Lunch was delicious! The crew were attentive to everyone's needs and we had a wonderful relaxing afternoon on the beach and enjoying the shallow water. The departure location was easily reached from our hotel in the hotel zone via the local bus. I've already recommended this to friends returning later this month and I'll probably book this again on my next trip to Cancun.
Awesome and great fun! A good mix of education about the island and wildlife and fun on the boat. The food was quite good! There was some confusion as to where we were supposed to meet the tour, but the staff called the owner who personally picked us up and delivered us to the dock. Excellence all around!
