Stop At: Zona Arqueologica Uxmal, Uxmal, Yucatan Peninsula
Your first stop will be Uxmal, known to many by way of legend, myth or anecdote. It is situated within a series of hills known as the Puuc or "mountainous area" in Maya. The name was later given to describe the architectural style of the region, such as the colossal Magicians Pyramid, impressive Governor´s Palace, intricate Dove´s Temple and Grand Nuns Quadrangle.
The archaeological structures and buildings located throughout Uxmal are ornamented with geometrical figures and masks of the rain god, Chaac. The rain god was considered by the Maya people as one of the most important of their deities.
Have lunch at either the beautiful Hacienda Uxmal or in the gardens of the Lodge of Uxmal surrounded by unique Maya Palapas.
Next, visit Kabah, a Puuc-style city that flourished around the year 800 AD. Kabah is known as the second largest religious center in the Puuc-style. (Puuc is the Mayan name given to a series of low-lying hills with a unique culture and style.)
After sightseeing, enjoy the beautiful pool and gardens of the Hacienda Uxmal Hotel.

We enjoyed this trip a lot because it was a very small group and so we got personalized attention. There were some hiccups about the pick-up time but it got sorted out. Our tour guide, Jorge, for the Kabah and Uxmal sites was outstanding. Apart from his excellent knowledge, he has a unique sense of humor and kept us in splits with his comments. The chocolate museum visit was interesting and lunch at the hacienda Uxmal was also excellent. Overall a very pleasant and comfortable experience
This was a great tour! There was much smaller crowds at these sites and no market vendors making constant animal noises like you get at Chichen Itza. The pace is reasonable for the amount to see, and our guide Jorge was incredibly knowledgeable with 50 years experience. Uxmal is highly impressive and worth seeing.
Fantastic ruins! Not crowded and with peaceful feeling! Our guide was Mayan and had been doing this tour for 50 years, but he was anything but rote and boring. The driver was vary kind and spoke very good English, as did the guide. Both accommodated Ur timing and desire to look longer at any given site. Lunch was good, although my sister had the fish and it was excellent. Defenitetly worht it!
Our guide, Rosendo, is super good and nice. As we have only 2 people joining the trip for the day, he explained many interesting myths and historical story to us patiently. To be honest, it is no point visitng the ruins by yourself because you will miss many interesting facts!
Uxmal is an amazing place. Our guide great! If you are in this part of the world, Uxmal and Kabah should not be missed. I got picked up at my hotel and I was joined by a small group of interesting people. I took three tours with this company while I was in Mérida and was very pleased with all of them. It is an inexpensive and easy way to get to know these sites for the first time.
Uxmal and Kabah are both extraordinary examples of the Maya civilization, truly breathtaking. Our guide was very friendly and his commentary/expertise were good, but not outstanding. They did not put together a tour group that worked very well, unfortunately. It included a very elderly couple who really should not have been on this trip because of physical problems - as much as I admired their pluck they should have been strongly discouraged - and a gentleman who was very unhappy because he was counting on the tour ending at the time he had been told rather than 1/1/2 hours later, causing difficulty with a connection. So, while the sites we visited are quite spectacular and merit 5 stars, the tour organization was somewhat lacking.
Fascinating tour of Uxmal and Kabah. If you like learning about the history of Mexica and the Maya culture this is a recommended day tour from Merida. The archeological sites are well preserved and amazing to walk around. These sites are less touristy so it gives you and opportunity to climb on the ruins and peak into the rooms. Our guide was charming and very educated. If you visit Merida, and are interested in history I recommend this tour highly.
This was a great experience. The ruins were very beautiful, and what surprised me most was how friendly the other tourists in the group were. I had a wonderful time and would recommend the trip to anyone.
Uxmal and Kabah were amazing. When traveling to Mérida, no one should miss this wonderful experience. Our guide, Elias, was knowledgeable and extremely helpful. This was a day that we will long remember.
This was an excellent day-long excursion, via Mayaland Tours. Kabah is a very interesting and beautiful site. Uxmal is awesome in the size and grandeur of its pyramids, palaces, administrative buildings, water distribution features etc. Good signage provided by the federal Institute of Anthropology and History. The tour also included lunch at the Uxmal hacienda and Choco-Story Museum - - both very enjoyable. In addition, our guide arranged for us to visit a Maya household compound with a garden of edible and medicinal plants. The tour lasted 11.5 hours by the time we were delivered back to our hote.
By far one of our favorite trips. Uxmal is truly spectacular as is Kabah. The Choco Museum sounded cheesy but definitely worth a visit to see all the indigenous plants.
The site tour was excelent and the lunch was very good.
The additional chacolate museum visit was also very interesting.
Very knowledgeable guide and lots included. We particularly enjoyed Uxmal, but Kobah and the chocolate museum were also really good. Our guide was excellent and the lunch was also good quality. We would recommend this trip.
The mini bus arrived on time and took us to Kabah then Uxmal. both sites where brilliant especially Uxmal which was a highlight for me. the guide was very informative and spoke great English. the guide was of Mayan heritage which gave the experience some authenticity. We also visited a chocolate factory which again was interesting. Lunch was close to the Uxmal Archiological site which meant less travelling in the minibus.
A wonderful experience for all. The travel van was exceptionally clean and comfortable and our driver was accommodating and entertaining. Once at the incredible ruins, we were joined by Jorge, a delightful tour guide who clearly knows and loves this land and culture.
Our tour guide was Josue, and he did an awesome job. He is very knowledgeable. I had been wanting to see Uxmal, and it was more than I expected. Uxmal is not overrun with tourists, so it was a pleasant experience. Kabah is a bit smaller, and you do not get to see much of it, but it was still well worth it. The visit to Choco-Story was also a great experience. It gives you a pretty good historical review of the history of cacao. My group had a total of 5, and I know they were satisfied with the experience. I recommend you take plenty of water and cover up, because that sun will wear you down. Most importantly, take a camera. You will capture some amazing pictures.
I traveled by myself and I was the only person who joined the tour. The driver was on time. I really appreciated that the tour guide explained the sites of Uxmal and Kabah only for me. These 2 sites did not have many tourists and are good places to visit. The restaurant that I had lunch had only one guest -- me, again. The lunch was not bad. After lunch I was transferred to Chocolate museum. They also performed a ceremony only for me. It was a special experience.
