Great food tour. Good mix of the markets, street food and real Mexico restaurants with a lot of local culture thrown in along the way.
Our tour guide, Paloma was very knowledgeable and very interested in food. A great walk through parts of Mexico City.
We would highly recommend this tour. Do NOT eat beforehand and be ready for delicious tastings.
Wonderful food tasting tour! Lizbeth was an extraordinary tour guide! She explained vey well the history of Mexico and how each place that we visited was originally created and developed through the years. I never thought that we are going to taste a variety of food and to visit the Amazing San Juan Market, which I had the opportunity to buy fresh fruits. I tried the drink Mezcal for the first time and it was strong, but good. I loved how we ended the tour in a candy store. I truly recommended!
Our tour guide, Lizbeth Mata was awesome! She was very knowledgeable and enthusiastic. Food portion was just right and sometimes I couldn't finish the food because it was a lot. Drinks complimented the food tastings very well. I highly recommend doing this tour and if you get Lizbeth, you are in for a treat! Thank you for an amazing food tour!!!
The food was fantastic and more than sufficient - I've left food tours hungry before, but not on this one.
I enormously enjoyed this well guided, explained and tastefully tour. My 2 sons of 14 and 15 found it wonderful as well. I would suggest you have this tour as early as possible in your holiday so that you really learn what is there to be found in the excellent local restaurants.
Just a tip: don't have breakfast that day.
What a terrific tour! We got a wonderful 5 hour walk around the Historic Center with history, architecture and copious, excellent food galore.
it's a little expensive, but this tour is really great! The local guide, Grace, was really friendly and knowledgable All food I tried were good and interesting. If you want to try some local Mexican food, I do recommend this tour!
Me and my husband took the tour on our first day in Mexico City in December, we thought it would be a good chance to do something different, get our bearings and see how safe it really is walking around the city. We had an amazing day and the guide was fantastic. At first we were the only people on the tour, then a family ranging from age 2 to 70 turned up a day early for their tour. The guide was very accommodating and managed to adapt to include them on our tour.
We walked for miles and learnt a lot about Mexican history during the tour but it was nice and chilled at the same time. We like beer and the guide was more than happy to get us different local drinks to go with the food to get the full experience.Watch out for the grasshopper salsa in the market!
My husband was very ill at the time, with a bug from the flight over and the guide took us to a doctors after the tour and stayed with us to translate as the doctor did not speak English. We were so grateful for her help!
I would recommend this to anyone that wants to explore Mexico City and likes eating!
Really enjoyed our tour so informative and fun - Grace is an excellent guide. What I especially liked was how varied the tour was from a market, to cantinas and lots in between. Warning start out on an empty tummy!
Highly recommended. It's a walking tour in the sense that you stop by different places to try a single dish and then walk to the next, stopping by a market, a street food vendor, and a cantina, doing tastings at each. It's focus is very much of traditional Mexican cuisine--if you're after a more contemporary approach, the same company offers another tour that might be a better fit. It really helped demystify some of Mexican cuisine, and I now know what a good mole sauce should taste like and have been to several restaurants with menus that would otherwise be intimidating for a non-native speaker. Same with a popular street food where the specialty is ceviche seafood--not the type of thing that one might normally be able to order without some risk, but this one was a highlight for several in our group. The tour is well paced, and although we were full by the end it was overdone because each stop is only a smallish plate. All the tastings are optional, so if there's something you're not feeling you don't have to eat it. And they can accommodate vegetarian preferences, etc, with advance warning. If you're inclined, you can also try some of the more exotic foods like ant larvae and crickets. And, finally, our guide was excellent in all respects.
This tour was great! Tried so many things that I normally wouldn't and walking around we were told of the history and stories of particular places of interest as we went past. The markets were a highlight with so many little things to see and taste!
We had a wonderful time on our food tour last week. The tour was informative, fun and above all delicious! Amazing variety of culinary experiences with great background on who grows and makes the food and what role the different dishes and flavors play in Mexican culture. I recommend this experience highly, and can't wait to return for another tour. Thank you Sabores Mexico!
I was hoping there would be more people in the group as these events are usually more fun with a group. I was on my own, and no one else showed up. That's not the fault of the company but it made the day less interesting. On the other hand I felt the guides were really knowledgeable and we did accomplish a lot. I set out to try as much interesting street food as possible and I certainly did. I decided to take the tour in English, even though I speak Spanish as well, and I sort of regretted it. There were two guides and the main one spoke English with a thick accent so I often had to ask her to repeat herself or to translate into Spanish for me. That's not a criticism as much as an observation. she was incredibly knowledgable and friendly. For anyone who does speak Spanish I have a feeling the tour is more enjoyable in Spanish. One final note. Our last stop was Dulceria Celaya, which was wonderful but I wish we had had the opportunity to sample at least two or three small items rather than just one.
My tour was awesome and my guide was amazing ! I Totally enjoyed my day ty Grazelle : )
Great introduction to Mexico City through culinary experience. We visited six eateries. My favorite was the street vendor Food was most recognizable to me and the Dessert at the Food Market. They also served quite exotic dishes and I was brave enough to eat it!
Mariana was our guide-so knowledgeable . Perfect mix of food and history. Really enjoyed this tour.
On April 19th, 2016 at 12 noon, my travel partner and myself had a Historic Center Food Tour booked with Sabores Mexico Food Tours booking reference : BR-566839509. We were to meet at a restaurant Oaxaca en Mexico Luis Moyà 59, Centro
We literally had walked a marathon for over a mile only to fine out no such restaurant existed. The street was correct but the number 59 was not to be found. We asked a couple of police for direction. We not only lost our money of 166.00 but also the disappointment thinking this as a scam. Do Not Book with this company!
