At 8:45am, meet your guide and your small group of 12 or fewer at the Museo Mexicano del Diseño in Mexico City.
Your first stop is a market some locals might not even know. Hear about the market’s unique history from the early 20th century, its connection to Mexican artists Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera, and its context within modern Mexican society. Hop back on public transport and visit the bizarre witchcraft market, where you can purchase a superhero costume, a festive piñata, a voodoo doll, a hangover remedy, or any number of magic potions.
Walk a few blocks to a "3-in-1" market that features flowers, prepared food, and fresh produce. This is Mexico City's biggest flower market, where local vendors will sell you exotic flowers that exactly match the color of your eyes. As you wander through the market, sample a cup of pineapple tepache, tamales, Mexican barbecue, fruit cocktail, and exotic mixed juices.
Your last stop is at a local patio for more food samples, ensuring you finish the 5-hour tour with a panza llena, corazon contento — a “full tummy and happy heart.” The tour concludes around 1pm, back at the Museo Mexicano del Diseño.

The tour was a little more than we wanted to pay but man was it worth every minute!! The guide, Jacinto, was awesome and showed us places we definitely would not have gone to on our own. We got to try some of the best barbacoa tacos I've ever had as well as other fresh things. We didnt like everything but we did it! We even had grasshoppers! This tour was well worth the money, honestly I would do it again!
This was the first group tour I have ever taken - as a solo traveler, I typically like to do my own thing. But I only had 5 days in Mexico City and really wanted to go to some markets so I figured this would be the easiest way. It was such a great experience! First of all, our tour guide Ulysses (Warrior!) was truly wonderful - funny, knowledgeable, passionate and professional. He did more than a market tour - he really gave us a great overview of the history of markets and how it related to the history of Mexico. We saw some murals and churches and he taught us very interesting tid-bits about the city and culture. We tried a lot of food - I didn't eat much breakfast and have a huge appetite and was still stuffed by the end! So many new flavors - not just actual prepared food but we also got to try different flavored pastes and snacks and drinks. We also took public transportation which was awesome because after seeing how great and cheap the buses and metro were, that is all I took for the rest of my trip. Overall this tour was a great value and one of the best parts of my whole trip. Lots of walking - wear comfy shoes - and bring water because it is hot and you may be eating some spicy foods :)
This was our second trip to Mexico City in the last 2 years. My husband and I truly enjoyed the local culture introduced by our guide, Caesar. We would highly recommend this tour to all travelers to Mexico City.
Oh yes! This tour was amazing! The markets and the foods/drinks that we had were super delicious and amazing. I loved everything about this tour. Our tour guide was super sweet. She spoke English very well and was very passionate about what she does. I will definitely recommend anyone who wants a local experience to take this tour! You will not regret it!
Great tour and Eduardo was simply great. Super nice guy and we really enjoyed it.
We had such a wonderful experience on this tour! Our guide Eva was so friendly and knowledgeable and took us to places we never would have seen without booking this tour. The food and company were excellent. My favorite part was the lunch we shared at a hidden gem of a restaurant where we were treated like family. Request Eva if you can. She was just the best!
Pili was an amazing tour guide. She was very knowledgeable, spoke great English, and indulged all my questions about how to say things in Spanish. The markets she took me to were off the beaten path for foreigners but full of locals, for good reason. I had literally the best taco in my life at the last market and was able to pick up souvenirs and try different food (grasshoppers!) along the way. On top of that, Pili gave me recommendations for other bars, restaurants, and coffee shops that i loved when i visited them the next day. I highly recommend this tour! It was a very unique and fun way to see a bit of everyday Mexico City life.
A wonderful introduction to the under belly of the real, everyday Mexico City. A relatively small group of about a half dozen, we walked, talked and tasted several markets, including a few off beat, such as the witchcraft, expertly led by an exuberant guide named Pili. She was a delight, and went beyond her tojurguide responsibilities to helpful us at the end of the tour,to help us score a few tickets to that evening's performance of the Ballet Folkloric at the Palacio de Bellas Artes.
Caesar was a great guide. Very knowledgeable and had a great balance of info and exposure to dif foods /cultural aspects of markets.
Great tour of markets and art. Wonderful guide showed us things and places you would never see on your own. Tasted many kinds of local food. All in all, a great day. Definitely recommend!
The majority of markets were clearly off the usual tourist agenda, and our guide was attentive, informative and engaging. 10/10, it was my favorite tour I've ever taken - I would absolutely recommend it!
It's pretty good!! I highly recommend this tour. The tour guide took us hang around and explain so much for us. We ate a lot, went to the local markets, took the local transportation, which is an good experience to know more about the real life of local people and their history. And it's a small group, so we can enjoy more. And i have to say my tour guide is amazing! That was his first time to lead a group, but he did a good job. He's very responsible and nice!!
This is a great experience for anybody who has chosen this trip. I highly reccomend this tour as it is the only way that you will experience and see as to how the local people live and behave. The tour guy that we had namely Rodrigo is a very knowledgeable person explaining all the city's history as well informing you of the day to day life of a mexicoan person. You will get to see the various markets and taste the local food. Dont's miss it and you will not reget it.
The tour was great and Evelyn is na amazing guide takinf us through the markets and explaining a lot about the food and sites.
The Food and Market Tour was great. dont't eat before you go. We ate all day. Ebelyn was fantastic. She
Evelyn was an amazing, informative and warm host. We saw so much of the culture and local market behavior. Food was varied and tasty. Highly recommend this host and toys. Thank you
This was an absolutely wonderful tour! When visiting another country, what better way to see how the people live their lives than to visit their markets, and this tour was perfect in that regard. There were 4 or 5 markets visited at a leisurely pace, to include the Rodriguez market and it's interesting sociological history and murals. The sprawling Mercado de la Merced with emphasis on the magic section. And also the flower market, which imo is spectacular, one of the best I have seen anywhere.
And the tour was so much more than the markets. Our guide, Rodrigo, had so much to relate about Mexico City: it's history and what lies underneath and why the streets are so undulating , superstitions, cultural struggles, ethnicities, the food of course, and even an introduction to riding the bus and subway system. There were also 3 or 4 stops along the way to sample the fare at market fast food venues all delicious I wish I had not eaten breakfast!. Thanks Rodrigo, for making this one of the best tours I have experienced anywhere, and at 39, an absolute steal!
Have so much fun with this tour! Our tour guide Nathan I very professional and knowledgeable! guide us to the market safely and fully stuffed!
