We were delighted with our Taste of San Miguel Tour. Both the food and the guide were excellent. The variety of the restaurants was helpful in seeing a true picture of the city.
Our evening tour guide Leslie Carmona was terrific and very personable. He had excellent knowledge of the history of San Miguel and the restaurant scene. Because he is a pastry chef and involved in creating food, he had excellent insight into the local restaurants and chef specialities. Besides the generous and wonderful selections, he made the evening fun and enjoyable. I highly recommend this tour,.
We enjoyed the different restaurants, walking distance between the different locations wasn't too bad. Tour guide seemed knowledgeable about restaurants and history of San Miguel. His presentation could be a little more lively, maybe not spend as much time on personal history. I think a wine pairing should be offered with all restaurants except maybe the dessert location. Also that location was our least favorite. The guide gave a long explanation regarding the cooking process for the restaurant that served the short ribs, leading us to expect the best and most tender short rib ever. It wasn't though, it was pretty tough not fork tender. Our favorite was the restaurant serving the shrimp taco. It was delicious, ambiance was great as well lively roof top area. Wished we had discovered this place before the night before we departed.
Wonderful evening out enjoying good food and company. Great way to get acquainted with the San Miguel food scene. Recommend getting the wine pairing option if available.
Unique tasty food at stellar restaurants. Informative and interesting guide.
This evening food tour was exceptional! We went to several of the very best restaurants in San Miguel and were able to have a sampling from their menu. I would highly recommend that you take this tour towards the beginning of your stay in San Miguel because you'll probably want to return to at least one of the restaurants visited doing the tour.
Our guide, Leslie, was really terrific. He was an incredible source of information, not only of food but of the history of San Miguel and things to do in the area. He was very entertaining and shared lots of wonderful information with us.
A great way to sample several restaurants. Our guide, Leslie, was fun and informative. Even gave out little gifts. Only our dish at “The Restaurant” was disappointing - very dry braised short ribs.
Other restaurants visited: Aperi for smoked beet salad, La Azotea for shrimp jicama taco, ...
Everything about this tour was great! The other people taking the tour, the lovely restaurants, the food, and especially our guide, Leslie. My favorite tastings were a jicama taco and some slow cooked short ribs. I highly recommend this tour!
excellent guide, many stops for food and drink along the way, great intro to San Miguel
We walked to about 5 restaurants. The food was delicious and our guide gave us a brief history of the town. I would definitely do this again. I am so sorry I can't remember details after just a few months. I do remember eating fried crickets and sipping mezcal for our very last stop.
This tour was amazing! Vail out tour guide was so informative about San Miguel, the culture and the food. The restaurants that we visited were over the top. Each one different. Highly recommend this tour!
This was an amazing food tour. The tour guide was very knowledge, fun, and provided much historical information during our walk between restaurants. We visited 6 different restaurants within easy walking distance of each other. At each restaurant we sampled one course of a 6 course meal with drinks. The restaurants were all fairly high-end restaurants. The plate served at each stop was delicious and creatively presented. At 2 stops we had wine, at 3 stops we had water and the final stop we had delicious marguerites. I felt it was sufficient alcohol. The group is 6 people. Lots of time for questions. I would highly recommend this tour for visitors to San Miguel.
We are frequent visitors to Mexico and usually prefer the small towns and local restaurants. We opted for this tour as a chance to experience a number of fine dining establishments with an eye to future visits. There were only 4 of us on the tour and Erik,, our guide , is an ex-pat with roots in Mexico. He did a wonderful job as tour guide and offered some history as we walked the short distance between restaurants. We sampled food in 5 wonderful restaurants -- from salad through dessert -- and ended at a Mescal bar to taste different Mescals. The salad course was very small, but all the other selections were more than adequate It was a very enjoyable evening each restaurant had our table ready and in one case the chef came out to explain the dish. We ended up returning to El Pegaso a following night for dinner. In addition to the food, several of the restaurants are housed in historical buildings , in one case dating back several hundred years and featuring an interesting change of use over time. A couple of the restaurants we visited are in high demand and required reservations we had the chance to try them out without this hassle since we were in town for less than a week.
Thoroughly enjoyed this tour, particularly all the tastings! Our guide, Vail, was fun to talk with and had lots of interesting information about the history and current state of San Miguel, plus, she was an exceptionally interesting person in general. Being a U.S. native but having lived in San Miguel for over 19 years, she provided the comfort of both native knowledge and knowledge of our life north of the border. Favorite dish was the Shrimp and Jicama Taco at La Azotea, but we also enjoyed the Smoke-Infused Beet Salad at Aperi, and the Chiles en Nogadas at El Pegaso. On top of all that we had Beef Short Ribs at The Restaurant, Sweet Wafer and Ice Cream at 13 Ceilos, and a shot of Mezcal at La Mezcaleria. Overall a bit too much food...just make sure you haven't eaten all day and enjoy! The walks between restaurants were never too long and always had informative talks along the way. Although the list of restaurants and food may change from time to time, I would be confident in recommending this tour.
Vail was awesome as she showed us some wonderful spots - food, drink and otherwise - in San Miguel de Allende. I loved hearing her perspective as a long-time resident nearly 20 yrs and yet - an ex-pat who could relate to thoughts we might be having. Every course that we were introduced to was perfect and something truly different that I might not have tried. We loved the jicama tacos so much that we headed back there the next day to experience them once again! She also had a list of other locations to try which we really appreciated. I urge you to take this tour. Thank you, Vail for a great evening.
This was such a fantastic tour and evening. Vail was our tour guide and she was terrific - fluent in both English and Spanish, she gave us THE BEST evening of food, wine, mezcal and fun. The restaurants they used on tour are some of the finest in San Miguel, we tried to walk off each course as we learned some very interesting history and information about San Miguel, our group was small and manageable and it was a good group of folks to tour with. I would recommend this tour to anyone visiting San Miguel. We were so excited after the tour, we wanted to sign up for the tacos tour but just ran out of time.
My husband and I really enjoyed our Evening Food Tour on Thursday Feb 9, 2017, in San Miguel de Allende. Our tour guide was a lovely, vivacious, interesting and knowledgeable American woman, originally from Oregon, who has been living in Mexico now for 19 years. She was friendly and a great conversationalist and made all in our group feel at ease and comfortable. We met at the first of 6 restaurants on the tour. We had two appetizers first, then two main courses, then a dessert and finished with a shot of mezcal in a super bar. All the food and drinks were delicious, but the best part of the tour was seeing 6 different restaurants, with pleasant relaxed walks between each, during which our guide shared interesting facts about the city's history, modern life there and her own impressions and stories as an American who now makes her life and raises her family in Mexico. Our tour lasted from 6 until 10 p.m. and we enjoyed every minute. And our guide paid for everything in each restaurant - all we had to do was enjoy!!! Great tour :
The evening food tour was amazing! Our guide Vail made our tour even more spectacular! She had a wealth of knowledge. She gave us some wonderful insight of the history of San Miguel. All the restaurants were delicious and gave us the opportunity to experience the different flavors of San Miguel.
Great evening! Our guide, Vail made the night. She was so knowledgeable about the various restaurants and the chefs that really added to the tour. The food and wine pairings was excellent. Also the pacing of the evening was done very well...we walked right in and were seated at a large table in every restaurant...no waiting...our preset course was served immediately.
