Excellent option for those who have trouble keeping up with a tour guide or who don't want to hear too much explanation. You will likely be driven with a few other tour-guide customers the van has max seats for 12 people but left to your own in the Mayaland Hotel upon arrival. We had to ask the guide where to buy tickets/entrance was but afterwards it was just us! Perfect as we love to stroll and walk around.
Long drive but very timely pickup. Once we got to Mayaland we were met by a hotel rep who helped secure our tickets. Wish we would’ve known cash only for tickets but there was an ATM. We enjoyed touring the Chichen Itza without a tour guide because we have kids who would not have liked it.
After an on time pick up at our hotel we were off for a great day. we were greeted at the entrance of the Mayaland Hotel and promptly explained about the hospitality suite and how to enter the myan site. No huge sales pitch like I expected. We were offered the buffet for about 15 per person but chose to skip it. To enter the site it cost 240 pesos or 16 USD per person to get in so factor that into your price.
The ruins were wonderful. Being able to explore on our own was a plus. There is so much information on the web and in the brochures found all over the area that we didnt need a guide. we were given a map and allowed to go at our own pace. When we were finished we went back to the hotel and lounged around the pool and watched the iguanas hang out.
The only down side to the entire trip was all of the souvenir vendors. You cant walk 5 feet without someone asking you to buy the same trinkets but that seems to be the theme of the tourist areas. All of the vendors were lining the perimeter and trails for the site so you could walk freely through the area without tripping over them.
Everything is great, better than I expected.
The pick up was on time -- in fact, the driver arrived before the scheduled time and waited for us. The ride to Chichen Itza was very smooth, in a mini van that comfortably carries only about 10 tourists or fewer. We were the only people in the group that booked this tour. When we arrived at the Mayaland Hotel, a lady from the hotel welcomed us, gave us very detailed information about the Hotel, showed us the welcome suite, and showed us how to get our tickets to enter Chichen Itza. During the whole process, the lady was super nice and patient, and did not push us to purchase any extra time. We toured by ourselves in Chichen Itza for a little over two hours, went back to the welcome suite. It was a very hot day, and we found the welcome suite extremely helpful --- it was big, cool, clean, with a big table, sofa, restroom, etc. We were the only people there and really enjoyed it. The van picked us up on time. I would highly recommend this tour to anybody! Many many thanks to the driver and the tour guide on the van from Mayland Tours Grey Line, and many thanks to the super nice lady from Mayaland Hotel.
We enjoyed our trip to Chichen Itza. Our guides Mauricio, Pedro and Hector were awesome. The best arrived on time. Having access to the suite at the hotel was a life saver with two young children. Worth the money!!
This was our first time in Mexico and we absolutely loved this trip. We are on a coach bus with several other tourists and the tour guide gave us a lot information on the Mayan culture. It makes for great entertainment during a 2 hour ride.
Once we arrived, we had skip the line access to the site, and was greeted with fresh lemonade. WARNING - ITS HOT HERE!
Since we booked THIS tour, at that point, we were able to break off from the group and explore on our own. The tour guide gave us a time frame on when to meet back at the bus so we kept that in mind.
I would only recommend this excursion if you are pretty independent and prefer to navigate on your own. My husband and I don't like to be stuck with one big group during our excursions so this was right up our alley.
Lunch was amazing and everything was local and delicious!
Great option if you want to roam freely through the site without the hassle of being dependent of a group and a guide. We were picked up by our drive Taco from Gray line tours on time, Taco was very professional and great driver, it was kind of a semi- private drive on a comfortable van with only 3 more people on board. He also played a movie on a small TV on the way there which made the trip look faster. Mayaland is a beautiful hacienda and we had a shared room just for Gray line customers that had showers, cold water, a bed, air conditioner, Jacuzzi, washrooms, etc, which is a blessing after walking for hours on the archeological site under the sun and summer heat. We had plenty of time to see the ruins, do shopping, have lunch and take a nap. We had 10 discount for the buffet restaurant which is pretty good and they had a regional dancing show. I recommend this tour.
We were picked up on time and, as we booked 'at your own pace' the driver made sure we understood extra costs for tickets and optional lunch before we set off. This was the perfect way for us to see the archeological site which was amazing. On arriving at the Mayaland hotel, we were quickly handed over to our host who arranged tickets and showed us how to enter the site. Highly recommend the buffet lunch which had a wide variety of foods. We were entertained by dancers but beware they will be waiting for you at the door for tips as you leave. We unfortunately picked up some heavy rain in the afternoon and were grateful we booked access to the hotel where we had shelter and drinks etc. Our only criticism was that drinks, including water needed to be purchased at the lunch. For the sake of one dollar for a bottle of water each, why doesn't the hotel increase the price by one dollar and make guests feel better?
If you don't like being stuck with a tour guide and want to explore at your own pace, then this is the tour for you! You get in to the park from an exclusive entrance and get access to a shared suite with a clean restroom. I also suggest getting the lunch buffet option for an additional $16.
easy day trip. very friendly. recommend the adjacent hotel for adult beverages and an escape from the sun.
The tour was great! We were picked up and dropped off on time. Also the access to the hospitality suite was a great addition.
We thoroughly enjoyed the trip. The van was comfortable, the guide and driver were competent and knowledgeable. We especially enjoyed being able to go through a private entrance to Chichen Itza.
Loved this tour! Picked up on time in a mini-van very comfortable and AC. Once we got to Chichen Itza, we had the offer to either pay the admission fee only 230 pesos or 13 USD, or admission w/ lunch buffet combo 27 USD. You also have the option to get a guided tour however, we did not choose that option. We were then taken to our Hospitality Suite, very nice bathroom and huge lounge area. This is where we left all our bags and extra stuff You have access to the suite during your entire time there. After that, we entered Chichen Itza and basically explored at our own pace which we loved!. If you are looking for a detailed history lesson, I suggest doing the guided tour. If you are okay with understanding the basics and exploring the sight then this tour is perfect. The buffet was average and you have to pay 2 USD or 40 pesos for drinks. We tried to bring our water bottles and they did not let us bring them in. Basically you have to buy a drink in the place. After lunch, we just hanged around the pool area until it was time to go. Overall, I had a great time and I highly recommend this tour if you just want to explore Chichen Itza without feeling rushed or have a guide that talks too much.
Value for money
Fantastic place to be, and enough time for you to walk around and take pictures/videos, picnic ect. There are options to have a tour guide at various prices, dependent on the time you want them for but you do not need one. They tried to up-sell one to us and even went as far to state that there would not be any translated scriptures, however, there was/are.
We traveled around and made most of our time, took food from our hotel so we could have a mini picnic. There are places you can buy snacks and drink. There are plenty of tour groups around and to be honest, with that many, we just hopped from one to another to get a little bit of a history lesson.
The only negatives are that there was plenty of stalls and sellers with people trying to stop you at every step. However, this is a great place to buy souvenirs as there are all hand-made onsite. We saw various people carving from wood making beautiful pieces, these guys are skilled and the prices are value for money. We only spent around 3/5 for a couple of magnets and stone chichen itza. We received some valuable information too regarding the prices, because they are made on site they are cheaper, and when sold outside it includes taxes ect, makes sense and was true.
The journey was very long and although the driver was friendly, he kept ignoring my wife's request to turn the air-con off, by the time we got home she was frozen.... and traumatized. BUT i would recommend this excursion to anyone.
We took a guided tour of Chichen Itza in January 2016 and found the guided tour to be great, however lacking in the ability to "go at our own pace" in terms of photography and awe. This tour was a perfect balance of assistance where needed, and hours of free time to go where we wanted.
Tour was amazing. Pickups were on time and our guide Mauricio was very knowledgeable, generous and helpful. I would definetly recommend Chichen Itza visit that is 2 hours drive but worth visiting.
Excellent service, I was with Rozando, Ilario and Yoshi...pick up arrived on time...and the hosts were amazing...the cute little resort exceeded my expectation...the buffet lunch was very much appreciated...made me feel very special..will recommend and definitely be back!!
This package is one of the best ways to do Chichen Itza no other way to do it, you get about 3 hours of free time and a small hut that has private bath and changing room and small shared living that you will share with other two people. They pack four to the hut, which is not bad.
This was our first tour in Cancun and it was very good. Our driver for the entire trip, William, arrived early and called the room to let us know he arrived. When we first stepped into the van it was very clean and smelled like cinnamon. I could tell William took pride in the appearance of the van. During the ride to and from Chichen Itza, William was very cautious and courteous and was always driving at the speed limit. At one point, he even swerved to miss an Iguana that was sunbathing on the highway.
Once we arrived, we were escorted to a room and given options to buy. I chose the buffet and tour guide option for a reasonable price. The guide was very informative and friendly. After the tour, we ate at the buffett. Most of the food was decent but the Mayan tacos were amazing. We spent the rest of the time at the pool before returning to our hotel.
Overall, the trip was well worth it. I would definitely do it again but try and do the earlier trip to avoid the heat and humidity of the afternoon.
