This was a very informative tour. I chose the Half Day Tour because I knew it would probably be very hot, but I was very interested in some of the Mayan history of the area. Our guide was Ana Gonzolez...a wealth of knowledge and information. She was very professional, and made sure that everyone in the group could hear what she was saying, and also was very informative as to where to meet at the end of the tour. She also made sure we got on the right vehicle returning home. She would have been one of the best guides I have had in a historical tour. Of course, I did find it hot, so I was glad that I chose the half day tour, and would recommend it. We had about one hour of talking with Ana, and then had several hours of free time to explore the ruins on our own. It is an experience not to be missed.
Interesting site but too little information. We were also handed off between tour guides.
This was a very nice half day trip! Our instructor, Pepe was knowledgeable and very kind too. They picked me up from my hotel right on the time they promised 7:40am. We returned around 1:30pm. I highly recommend this trip for someone who doesn't want to spend the entire day at Tulum. This 6-hours experience is sufficient :
This was a good choice if you only want to go to Tulum, and be back by mid-day. Our tour guide Ana was terrific and the transport and driver were very professional. Ana was informative, funny, and passionate about the native cultures of the Yucutan. We learned quite a bit on this relatively short tor.
Nice trip. Nothing special. Beautiful. Tour guide was long winded and hard to follow. My mother had a hard time keeping up because he moved quickly from place to place then stopped in areas with little shade.
We are regular Viator customers and use Viator services for at least 7 years.
While in Mexico we chose Tulum express and were not disappointed. I would highly recommend it because it is not a long trip but you can see a lot ,, learn a lot and will still be left time to go the beach in your resort in the afternoon. We were back at our hotel at 2 pm which left us plenty of time to swim and have lunch and were not completely tired after the trip.
This trip was very well planned. We were picked in the hotel on time and then driven to Tulum for a very interesting excursion, our tour guide Ariel was very informative , answered a lot of our questions, we had plenty of time for photos and admiring ruins. You can also swim in the beach in Tulum near the ruins but we did not think we had a lot of time.
Overall I thought this was a good experience. We were picked up from our hotel right on time at 8:00. We picked up one other couple from a different hotel and after driving a little more, we pulled off on the side of the road where we met another large van that we transferred to. That was odd. We arrived at Tulum and made our way inside to the site. Once there, our guide spoke for about 45 minutes about the history of the culture and the significance of the buildings. We then had almost 2 hours to explore the ruins or go back to the entry area where there are many shops and restaurants. Our guide was personable and very knowledgeable and tried to keep us in the shade as much as possible when she was giving her talk. We couldn't explore inside the buildings, just walk around the perimeters. It was sunny so it was very hot. The guide did give us a bottle of water when we arrived so that helped. When we left we took yet a different van and except for the original couple we first picked up, we had other people in our van that weren't part of our tour. The transportation was very weird. I would recommend this tour - perfect amount of time to be there. We got back to our hotel at 3:00 so we didn't have to give up an entire day.
The tour was very interesting with a knowledgeable guide. Tulum was the only Mayan city on the sea. Our guide explained that this was 1 of the last cities to be constructed by the Maya, only city on the coast. The walled city was the home of the elites, the nobles and priests. The common people lived outside the walls. When discovered the city was overgrown with jungle. When removed, the buildings collapsed as the soil and roots were holding the structures upright. A few residences, important palaces and temples were reconstructed, the remainder of the site is trees and lawn. Nothing has been excavated outside the walls. There is beach access, which seemed popular as many were in the water. There are no changing facilities, bathrooms, or lifeguards, swim at your own risk. The guide well informative talked to much for me. Viator contracts with Passions Tours who hire drivers to pick up tour members at their resorts. We boarded the minivan on the side of the highway. Passions tours subcontracts with drivers and tour guides. When we arrived at the site we were dropped off at the parking lot entrance in order to avoid parking fees. A tram was included in the price to transport us to the park entrance and then back to the parking area. A cold bottle of water was provided 4/5, as I love the archeology!
Our tour guide Pepe was fantastic! He gave the entire tour in both English and Spanish, and as someone who speaks both, I know how difficult it can be to translate for yourself on the fly. But Pepe made sure everyone in the party could understand him. He gave us a history of the culture to help us understand Tulum in the timeline of the Mayans, as well as the important aspects of Mayan culture and religion. This tour was the perfect length. We toured Tulum ruins with a 45min guided tour, had plenty of free time in the site to exploar, and then visit local shops for refreshments just outside the gate and had opportunity to shop at many local vendors.
Were back to our resort in time to still enjoy the pool for the afternoon. It was a great day!
Excellent tour. The guide was quite good. He told us about Mayan history associated with the port city and about Mayan culture in general. We wanted a part day tour and this was perfect. Hotel pickup was as planned a bit early but that way that was because of the individual hotel pick ups We then joined others who were also picked up at their hotels. The larger group was then split up into English speaking and Spanish speaking groups. Everyone involved was courteous and we had a good day and good tour...
