What to Expect What to Expect

Our small group shore excursion is a day of fascinating history and fun.  This tour takes you to the only Mayan city built on a coast, Tulum gives you some amazing sights over the sea at the same time as its impressive ruins. A wall built of limestone which is over 2,500 feet tall surrounds three parts of this ancient city.  Our guests have said it is an experience like no other.

We start our tour with a scenic 3/4 of a hour ferry journey to the beautiful Playa del Carmen.  Here we board an air-conditioned minibus to continue our tour to the Tulum Mayan Ruins. Once at the ruins we spend around 2 hours in Tulum, which gives you lots of time to enjoy the restored temples that rise above the Caribbean Sea. Your local professional guide explains all the facts, myths, and fascinating legends of the Ancient Mayan culture that once dominated the area.

Choose one of the fives entrances and make your way into the Tulum ruins. Here you will find a stunning field of smooth hills and stone carved figures that used to be striking buildings.  Situated on the edge of a 2,500 foot wall lies the castle known locally as El Castillo this overlooks the Caribbean sea and is a great opportunity for photos here.  You can also view the Temple of Frescoes, one of the most preserved buildings remaining; The Temple of the Descending God, and The House of the Columns. After your time in the Tulum Mayan Ruins, you'll hop back on your bus, return to Playa del Carmen, and enjoy a ferry ride back to Cozumel.

This is a great tour for people looking for history and scenic photo opportunities, book your small group tour today to stay away from the large cruise line crowds.  Please bear in mind this tour starts around a 10 minute taxi ride from the cruise port which is not included in this price.  Included in this tour is bottled water and a light snack.
