What to Expect What to Expect

From your Cabarete, Sosua or Puerto Plata hotel, you will be picked up by your friendly guide who will accompany you throughout the tour. During the ride you will receive some local information of interest and a short safety briefing.
On arrival at the 27 Falls of Damajagua Park you will leave the transport where you can leave a bag with your valuables, towel, dry clothes and flip flops for after the tour. Your guide will introduce you to the local waterfall guides who will be looking after you and you’ll be issued with a life jacket, helmet and a bottle of water for the hike up. If you want to take photos or video on the tour please only bring waterproof cameras. From this point on everything will get wet!
A moderate 40 minute uphill hike through a beautiful jungle landscape gets you to the 12th waterfall or, if you are in excellent physical shape, choose to hike all the way to the top of the 27 waterfalls (approximately 70 minutes) and experience it all.  Either way, your real fun begins as we head back down-river and you jump, slide and swim your way through a series of spectacular waterfalls, canyons and azure pools, emerging with a silly grin on your face and incredible memories to cherish! The tours include jumps of up to 25 feet (8 meters) but don't worry, the big ones have another way down if you don't want to jump.
After a 15-minute walk back to base camp and changing into your dry clothes, enjoy a delicious and varied Dominican buffet lunch, which includes things like barbecued chicken and pork, stews, rice, pasta and salads. Local rum drinks, sodas and water are included (beer is available but not included). After the meal, say goodbye to the local guides and board the transport for the ride back to your hotel.

We unfortunately could only do the 12 waterfalls as there wasn't enough water for the 27 waterfalls tour but they told us right away and gave us a refund. The hike was about 25 minutes into the waterfalls, had some uphill parts but everyone was able to manage. The guides were so helpful and very knowledgeable about the area. (Raul, David, Jordan and Omega) They showed us where to jump or slide. It was awesome, if you didn't want to do the jumps you could walk around. I would definitely recommend wearing shorts and a t-shirt, especially for women. The water is a little cool but very refreshing after the hike into it. The lunch that was provided after was good, buffet style with typical Dominican food. Definitely a must do if you're going to Puerto Plata!

Iguana Mama tours were excellent. We did the full 27 waterfalls. It was better than advertised. The hike up was a little strenuous, but is doable for most anyone. I do recommend that you wear the old running shoes they recommend. I wore water shoes with a thin sole and paid the price with bruised feet from walking through the river on uneven and sometimes sharp rocks.

My husband and I took our 15-year-old daughter and 12-year-old son on this excursion and we highly recommend it. The day was very well organized, the staff was both friendly and competent and the lunch at the end of the adventure was delicious. It was the highlight of our week! Bringing an extra set of clothes to change into after all of the swimming would make lunchtime, as well as the bus ride more comfortable.

Amazing! A MUST if you visit the Dominican Republic! We were supposed to have a small group of 6 in our tour but unfortunately, as soon as the hike started, a person in our group got sick so our tour guide ended up going with her and her husband and personally taking them back to their hotel. Our group got to mix and mingle with other groups so the small experience turned into a big group experience which isn't the worse thing but not ideal and things happen. Other than that this excursion was spectacular! We hiked up the mountain along side the 27 waterfalls and once we got to the top, we got to either jump or rock slide down them! All 27 waterfalls were active, not all were big enough to jump but the ones that were... boy oh boy were they fun! The guides made you feel safe and helped you every step of the way.

I would suggest doing the paparazzi so that you don't have to worry about taking pictures or photos. Its costs 55 and they provide you with a flash drive of all the footage which we tested there to make sure the pics and videos were actually on there. And when we got home to view them... it was well worth it! Those who have a hard time hiking up hills or scared of heights or too chicken to jump a 30 ft waterfall, this excursion is probably not for you.. unless of course you want to just take pictures of all the waterfalls which are beautiful!
Jumping and sliding down the rock slides, you might get scraped or bruised.. but don't worry.. it makes for good stories! After a long day of hiking and jumping, we had a nice Dominican lunch with chicken and rice and beans and drinks... so yummy!

Definitely recommended!!!

This tour was amazing. The guides were very friendly and funny. The waterfalls and hiking trails are beautiful and of all the excursions we took in Puerto Plata this was the best. I would definitely recommend this trip and we would do this one over and over again.

I have traveled to over 20 different countries, done lot of amazing things, and seen a lot of beautiful places. This experience was still one of the coolest experiences of my life. The jungle, river, waterfalls, and limestone rock are breaktakingly beautiful. The guides are incredibly helpful and go the extra mile to make your experience a great one, to keep you informed, to keep you safe, and to help you have the greatest amount of fun. My friend and I did all 27 waterfalls and it was absolutely incredible!! If you are on the fence about this, DO IT!! You 100 will not regret it. Put on bug spray, bring a Go Pro, wear close-toed water shoes, and have the time of your life!!

This tour was seriously amazing!! The guides were a lot of fun and we had a blast! Jumping and sliding down the waterfalls was well worth the effort it took to hike the whole way up to the top.

We had an amazing time hiking to the 27 waterfalls, and jumping/sliding into the waterfalls. We were very fortunate to see all 27 waterfalls even though some have been minimized/destroyed from Hurricane Sandy awhile back because of good weather and because we were able to hike with no issues. We hike frequently in Colorado and I can easily see why some people would have issues making the trek to the first waterfall 27, even people who do moderate exercise may have issues. This is strenuous and two of our tour mates had to stop and start at waterfall 12. We booked with Iguana Mamas and had a wonderful experience. Our guides were super helpful and knowledgeable about the area. Tip the guides well, they work hard to make sure you have a fun but safe time. Once and a lifetime experience!!! Glad we did it while we were young.

This was a wonderful experience and I highly recommend it to anyone interested in hiking and swimming/jumping into water. I highly discourage anyone who is not physically fit for a 45 min hike most of it up hill you know.. the walk to the top of the set of falls... to stay away from this excursion. We had a couple people in our group that had a hard time keeping up which slowed down the trip quite a bit. That didn't bother me really, just meant i got to play around in the water and videotape more with my GoPro which I also highly suggest purchasing for this trip.

Very fun. Make sure you bring a water camera. The tour guides and assistants were very helpful and informative. The scenery was very beautiful. Make sure you come ready to walk alot and can handle high levels of humidity. If you don't like to hike this is not for you. I would definitely recommend this for people who are adventurous and physically fit.

Totally worth it! Highlight of the trip, and we did some amazing things in 9 days! Iguana Mama picked us up at our hotel in Cabarete. At the site, we were given a helmet, a life jacket, and a bottle of water. The water is for the hike. My Chaco sandals were fine. If you are in reasonable shape, the hike is not too strenuous. Remember, you are heading to the top of 27 waterfalls. I am a bit of a chicken, so I skipped two jumps. Other than that, I slid and jumped my way down. If I can do it, you can too. Since you are sliding down a stream of water on top of rock, I suggest wearing shorts that you do not mind getting roughed up a little. Have fun!

This excursion is amazing! The hike up to the top is pretty challenging. We were covered in sweat and there are a lot of stairs involved. I wouldn't recommend it for anyone extremely out of shape or for children or elderly persons. However, it was definitely worth the workout. The waterfalls are beautiful and its so fun jumping and sliding through them. Definitely wear shoes with traction. We wore watershoes, but they didn't provide much support for walking on all the rocks and our feet hurt by the end. Also, wear shorts and a shirt over your bathing suit. The staff is great. They are funny and so helpful. They take pics and videos during the excursion. It was expensive for the package, but definitely worth it!!! You have to do this excursion!
