Fly from Antigua to the Mayan ruins of Tikal on this exciting day trip! Experience the history, culture, beauty and nature of Guatemala while visiting the incredible archeological site of Tikal, located in the Guatemalan jungle.
You'll be picked up from your Antigua hotel in the morning and taken to the Guatemala City airport to begin your day trip. Hop on a plane and set off toward the town of Flores in northern Guatemala. Once you land, you'll be driven to Tikal National Park (Parque Nacional Tikal), a UNESCO World Heritage Site. With an area of more than 341 square miles (550 sq km), this national park contains thousands of separate ruin structures scattered around, each full of fascinating history.
Visit the Mayan ruins with your expert guide and explore everything from the Central Acropolis, a maze of courtyards and small temples, to Complex Q and R, where you'll see twin pyramid complexes with altars set in front of the temples. Visit the massive Temple I, the Temple of the Grand Jaguar. Built to honor and bury King Moon Double Comb, the 144-foot (44-meter) temple is a small enclosure of three rooms with outside stairs leading to the top of the steep temple. Across the way, visit the equally beautiful Temple II, the Temple of the Masks.
Next, enjoy a delicious lunch at Tikal National Park before having some free time to explore the ruins on your own. Then, head back to the Flores airport to begin your transfer back to Antigua.

An absolutely amazing day!!!! This tour was the highlight of the trip for me. Yes, it is a long day, but you are able to do so much! The pickup and drop off driver was a good driver and pleasant to talk to. I was impressed that he was able to recognize me in the evening and waved me over which was a good thing as I was tired after the long day. The guide for the ruins was very informative and was able to adjust the schedule to give us the entire guided tour even though our flight was delayed. I felt we had the perfect amount of guided tour and free time to explore and take pictures. I would happily book again and recommend this tour to everyone!
This trip was the highlight of our time in Guatemala. I would highly recommend going to see Tikal if in Guatemala.
My review is based on the expertise of the wonderful guide we had. Carlos was extremely knowledgeable regarding the Maya structures and their history, which was expected, but he also possessed a deep familiarity with the plants and wildlife of the site. He was able to call birds, monkeys and other animals so that we could get a better look at them and to identify and discuss interesting features of the flora. The trip was unexpectedly special for his comprehensive understanding of Tikal in its environmental context and his ability to convey his love for it.
Tikal was a fantastic experience. Even though only a small amount has been uncovered of all the pyramids and buildings in the area it is outstanding. I also loved that nature surrounds the pyramids most of which are fully uncovered by foliage and some of the buildings are partially covered by the foliage as you can see how it lay undiscovered for so long. I was picked up promptly by my driver from Antigua and driven to the short flight that takes you there. I was with another couple and we were met by a great guide I am embarrassed that I don't remember his name because he was fantastic. We spent the whole day with him and he was very knowlegable and patient. In addition to all the pyramids and buildings he explained and pointed out all the wildlife surrounding the area, which was abundant. We were then driven directly back for a short flight back and my driver met me promptly again to take me back to Antigua. I highly recommend this tour and seeing Tikal with an experienced guide.
This tour was incredible!
I was picked up from my hostel in Antigua right on time. My driver did not speak English but dropped me off and communicated to me that I need to check in at TAG airlines.
I got to the airport a couple hours early for the flight but that was okay. In Flores a man was waiting for me with my name on a sign. he took my passport to buy my ticket for Tikal and returned it to me.
I was loaded into a tour bus with 3 other people and was told I would have my own guide for the tour in English and the other group would have a Spanish speaking tour guide. It was a bit confusing but I think that we were just sharing transportation and that it was with 2 completely different tour groups because when we got there we did not stay together.
My tour guide was one of the best tour guides I have ever had. His name was Erdozain and he knew everything there was to know about this place and was incredible about spotting wildlife. He had binoculars and let me peek through them to get a peek at the birds we saw an orange crested falcon which apparently can only be seen in 2 places in the world., along with oscellated turkeys, pizote, woodpeckers, and spider monkeys. His English was fantastic and he knew the history of the whole place inside and out.
He made the trip very special by not letting look ahead of time at the temples until we got to just the right spot, then BOOM, you would just be awestruck by how massive the place was. I appreciated that very much.
You could tell he was very passionate about this place and that he loved sharing it with people.
After the tour we drove back to Flores, the other group of people were tired of walking so we just drove around Flores to see the town and we were dropped back at the airport.
I loved this adventure and would recommend it to anyone who wants to see this beautiful place and is interested in history.
A beautiful place! The tour involved about 5 hours of walking. Sometimes rough and uo many stairs on the ruins. Our guide was knowledgable and passionate about his Maya culture. We often hiked off the main roads through paths in the rain forest seeing a wide variety of wildlife. The lunch was good. Bring water, bug spray and a rain jacket. There is a reason it is called the rain forest! The whole experience was well run and a great day trip from Antigua.
If you want the most experience out of the shortest time, this is the perfect day trip. You are very well taken care of from the time you are picked up until you are delivered back to your hotel. Everyone is professional and friendly. Our Tikal guide, Elder, was personable and knowledgeable and obviously cared about Mayan history. He was eager to share his knowledge. If possible, read up on your Mayan history to get the most of your experience here. There is quite a bit of walking on some rough terrain so wear appropriate shoes. Also, if possible, be prepared with mosquito repellent and sun protection. At the first stop on the way to Tikal you will be shown a small cultural exhibit then have a bit of free time to shop. But beware, the prices are very steep, so choose wisely.
This tour was incredible and worth every penny! It's a long trip but made easier by the friendliness and timeliness of the drivers and plane staff. Our tour guide was very knowledgable and friendly. Tikal itself was unreal and is a must see. It was great to see Flores too. Highly recommend!!
Trip was awesome!! Only glitch was the weather in Flores delayed departure by 30-40 minutes. the rain cleared out by the time we left in the shuttle. However, due to the delay, we were not able to spend any time in the museum/gift shop. Our guide was very informative and helpful, lunch was quite good, and the weather cleared up and was great the rest of the day with small shower here and there but nothing to dampen our excitement at visiting this amazing place!
A must for any trip, especially first trip, to Guate. Despite unforseen glitches, such as no light in the airport office, the guides and the drivers were punctual, absolutely attentive and very knowledgeable.
Thanks for coordinating such a great experience for us.
It's a must! Our guide, Manuel Banos, was very thorough and knowledgeable of the history and facts of the Mayan civilization. It was definitely the highlight of our trip to Guatemala.
Our guide, Carlos, was very knowledgeable not only about the ruins, but the Mayan medicines growing in the surrounding jungle.
Excellent tour. We had a terrific guide and enjoyed a delicious lunch among the jungles of Tikal. Highly recommended.
Awesome trip. A must do.
If you are staying in Antigua don't even think of driving or ride a bus.
A friend of ours did this trip a felt very sorry of his option.
The roads are narrow and not much safe and it is, at list, a 7 to 10 hours journey (one direction).
A little confusion at Tikal arrival airport and some delay, but all in all, everything went easy and smooth.
The guide (Vinicius) was nice, hellpfull and provided all the information we wanted to know.
The lunch is good and you can choose your prefered meal between meat, pasta, chicken or vegetarian.
Tikal is a awesome place. We couldn't be more amazed.
This tour makes for a long day, but is so worth it. Our guide, Erdo, was super knowledgeable about Mayan history as well as the flora/fauna of the jungle. The day was well-paced, the group was a great size, and it was a great way to spend my birthday. Lunch was great too.
