What to Expect What to Expect

Travel trough the new highway to Mexico City for 4 hours. Visit the Historic Center, National Palace, Constitution square, the Metropolitan Cathedral, Major temple, archaeological zone, Bellas Art palace, and one of the greatest archaeological sites, the Teotihuacan Pyramids.
The city was originally built on an island of Lake Texcoco by the Aztecs in 1325 as Tenochtitlan, which was almost completely destroyed in the 1521 siege of Tenochtitlan, and subsequently redesigned and rebuilt in accordance with the Spanish urban standards. In 1524, the municipality of Mexico City was established, known as México Tenochtitlán, and as of 1585 it was officially known as Ciudad de México (Mexico City). Mexico City served as the political, administrative and financial center of a major part of the Spanish colonial empire. After independence from Spain was achieved, the federal district was created in 1824.

Started off on the wrong foot but eventually everything worked out in the end. We were told to meet our driver at 5 a.m. for the 4 hour drive from Acapulco. We confirmed this a few days prior to the trip. By 5:15 a.m. we called our driver her was running late. We waited another 30 min before we were finally on our way. The promised bottled water for the trip was also forgotten. Anyway, we finally made it to the pyramids and they were amazing. Lunch was good as well. Then, onto the city. We enjoyed the sights and history but were unable to visit the National Palace due to a special event. We added a visit to the top of the tower for photos. only small cameras allowed so be prepared. Our guide was knowledgeable and spoke good English. We left the city at 6 pm. and made it back by 10:30 p.m. It was a great trip and I would recommend going with a driver/guide. The city is too big to manage and the traffic is terrible.
