What to Expect What to Expect

You will be picked up at 9:30 am at your hotel. From there, you'll head to the University of Guadalajara Auditorium. Here, you'll get an introduction to Mexican Post-Revolution Muralism. The three main muralists of the time and a brief summary on Jose Clemente Orozco's life and work. Continue the tour and drive to the Government Palace to see the murals painted in two different areas of the Palace. Next, visit to the Cathedral and the four squares surrounding the Cathedral, the Degollado Theatre and Plaza Tapatia.
Then, visit the most emblematic building in the city, a World Heritage Site and what the locals consider the jewel of the crown: the fabulous Cabañas Orphanage. It is here where Orozco painted what is considered his masterpiece: the Man of Fire. Admire all fifty seven of the intriguing fresco murals that Orozco painted in two years. Your tour ends at 1pm with hotel drop-off.

I always like to start off my visit to a city with a walking tour. If you are in to art I highly recommend this and our guide only does tours with up to 3 I believe so you will be able to hear what he says.

We were overly pleased with our tour guide Louis, his knowledge of the artist as well as the history and how the murals were an integral part of Mexican history. Louis has lived all over the world, speaks wonderful English as well as other languages and is more than willing to help all of us appreciate the wonderful city of Guadalajara, his home city. His knowledge of Mexican food, best restaurants at very reasonable prices adds to our wonderful experience.

Both the guide and tour were excellent. Having a guide explain the history and art of the murals and the joining us for a tour of the old colonial part of Guadalajara was perfect. Two in one!
