What to Expect What to Expect

The tour begins at the craft and tourist dock of El Chaco where we board our skimmer and observe in principle the type of boats that are used in the two main activities in the district of Paracas: tourism and fishing. The latter generates income to a large part of the population who daily go to sea for fish but mostly crustaceans and mollusks such as snails, razor clams (navajas), clams, and the well-known fan shells (conchas de abanico) that upon arrival of the child's current they reproduce and grow considerably -in the years 1982 to 1984 we had one of the phenomena of the child (el niño) with greater intensity in recent years unleashing one of the largest economic movements in the area. We sail through the Bay of Paracas and see the largest peninsula we have in Peru.

We stop then at the North Point of the peninsula of Paracas to watch, photograph and film the Candelabrum where the tour guide in brief will explain about the measures, materials of the area and its possible origin. The navigation continues and after approximately 15 minutes from the Candelabra you reach the Ballestas Islands where there is a great biodiversity thanks to the Humboldt Current and the upwelling phenomenon as well as other factors such as the sun and winds. Those who love birdwatching will find a lot of these as: seagulls, terns, boobies, cormorants, pelicans, vultures and Humboldt penguins - it is understood that nature has constant changes and some of this species of birds may not be present in a few days-.  You will also see crustaceans, echinoderms, mollusks, seaweed and others. Interesting to know is that the islands are the remains of an ancient mountain range of the coast that some 9 million years ago sank and separated from the coast.

Definitely the star of the tour is the sea wolf or sea lion who steals the attention of everyone for the curiousness of their behavior - they sleep, "pose for the cameras", or simply socialize and live without problems because they occupy the top of the food chain in the area without natural predators; Our summer is the time of reproduction of them. The constant fights are seen by females and territories besides the newborn babies who fill the atmosphere with a special touch to the call of their mothers.

The guano of islands is a special subject, see it, smell it and sometimes even get it in our clothes is a different experience. Just imagining the arduous work from remote years to the present makes us think about the importance of this bird dejection in the country's economy and its contribution to world agriculture in times of population growth and lack of fertilizers for their farmland and thus cover the demand for food on our planet.

The return becomes relaxing and enjoying the sea breeze is a natural anti stress.
