Keep an eye out for forest species such as buffaloes, elephants, black fronted duikers and bush bucks. It is a humbling experience to stand just meters from man’s distant cousins as they eat rest, play and bond with their young. Follow the mountain gorillas as they range freely in the bambo forest and discover their gorgeous natural habitat and the many species they share it with. After a well-earned trip to the gorillas, you will drive back to your lodge for an overnight. You can rest your tired legs and restorative massage, offered from the gorilla tracking experience!

Today after breakfast you prepare for your hike to the foothills of the virunga Volcanoes through bamboo forest that gives you the chance to spot forest birds, swamps, wild vegetation and the beautiful views of surrounding lakes and agricultural villages. Mgahinga is part of a larger ecosystem which includes two adjacent parks in Rwanda and Congo sitting high in the clounds, at the altitude of between 2,227m and 4127m. It was formed to protect the rare Mountain gorillas that inhabit its dense forests and it’s a habitant for the rare golden monkey. The park temperatures are cool owing to the mountainous nature with a home of 300 gorillas located in Virunga massif and the culture or traditional healing practices for local people covers the north slopes of the three northern Virunga Volcanoes (Muhavura, Gahinga & Sabinyo). You will drive to Lake Bunyonyi a place known as small birds after the hike for an overnight. The journey to Lake Bunyonyi takes 2-3 hours.

Day 4: Drive back to Entebbe

After breakfast, drive (8-10 hours drive) back to Kampala with a stopover for lunch en-route and the equator if you happened to miss it on your first day of your trip. At this point, there are two cement circles marking the equator line and it is worth stopping if you are traveling to Masaka or Kampala for a photo moment. Also watch a demonstration by local entrepreneur on how water swirls in opposite directions in the northern & southern hemispheres at the equator line. Another reason that makes the equator worthwhile stop are the great shopping bargains. The point has got several craft shops and art galleries run by individuals and organizations. These craft stalls sell souvenirs and handmade products while some with marks talking about the Equator. It will not be inconveniencing if you bought a T-shirt with words ‘I crossed the Uganda Equator’ Continue with your journey, the driver will drop you at your accommodation either in Kampala or Entebbe as you may wish.
