Our UNESCO tour in Romania is a comprehensive trip which include visits to the most important cultural attractions from Romania. Many of these sights are included in the UNESCO Heritages list. Here are some samples: fortified churches from Transylvania (Prejmer, Biertan, Viscri…), painted monasteries from Bucovina (Voronet, Moldovita, Sucevita…), wooden churches from Maramures (Surdesti, Desesti, ), Merry Cemetery from Sapanta, medieval town of Sighisoara and more.

Walking tour of the Sibiu’s Old District. Sibiu is one of the most important fortified towns in Transylvania.. The city is reminiscent of old European cities such as Nuremburg and it was founded in 1190 and grew to be the chief city of the Transylvanian Saxons. This amazing town, with the "Old Town" (The Big Square, the Small Square, The staircase Tower, the Tanners Tower, the Liar’s Bridge , the House of the Butcher’s Guild , etc

Next we’ll stop in an old village from Sibiu area. You can enjoy a horse driven wagon tour in the old village. Learn more about the local traditions and way of living, visit an icon painting museum and a local household. Traditional dinner in a local house.

In the morning we’ll go to Hunedoara to visit the biggest medieval castle from Romania – Corvin’s (Hunyad) Castle, dating since 15th century.

We’ll continue to Alba Iulia, a city with long history dating since the ancient times. Visit the Orthodox Cathedral, Catholic Cathedral, the fortification system built in “Vauban” style.

End the day in Cluj Napoca. In the evening we’ll have a walking tour of Cluj Napoca, the biggest city in Transylvania. Highlights: St Michael’s Cathedral, Union Square, Museum Square, Orthodox Cathedral, National Theatre, Matei Corvin’s statue, aso.

Church was built on 1766 on wood structure and due to its height of 72 mettres it is considered the tallest old wooden church from Europe.

Next stop at Desesti. Visit the wooden church (UNESCO). Maramures is a land where you can enjoy great countryside landscapes, old villages, local people with their beautiful folk costumes. We’ll visit some local craftsmens as a traditional weaver, a wood carver, a water mill, traditional household, etc

Stop At: Barsana Monastery, Kloster, Barsana 437035 Romania
Visit at Barsana Monastery, a good example of monahal life in Maramures and for the architecture of wooden buildings.

End the day in Botiza village. Visit a local household to see and understand more about the way of living in these villages. Visit a local sheepyard (summer time only)

Day 4: MARAMURES – BUCOVINA (GURA HUMORULUI)

In the morning we’ll visit the Maramures Woman Museum - Dragomiresti, where you can learn about maramuresean traditions and way of live.

Stop At: Moldovita Monastery, Vatra Moldovitei 727595 Romania
Next we’ll cross the Carpathians mountains heading north-east to one of the most famous and popular region of Romania – Bucovina, the land of painted monasteries. It is a very scenic road which offer amazing landscapes.

We’ll visit couple of the most important monasteries (UNESCO sites):

Moldovita (UNESCO): dates back from 1532 and is due to the ruling prince Petru Rares

It has the aspect of a fortress, with imposing towers and high, thick walls. The church has a three-cusped plan, as well as an open porch. It Is decorated with scenes from the 16th c Moldavian life. You can see here the best preserved frescoes, with fresh and vivid colors

Stop At: Sucevita Monastery, Dn17a 169, Sucevita 727510 Romania
- Sucevita : the last and the most magnificent monastic achievement among the painted monasteries in Bucovina , looks as a real fortress, with towers, buttresses and watch roads. Built in 1581, by one bishop, it was dedicated to the Assumption in 1584. Paintings of the Sucevita monastery were best preserved both on the outside and on the inside( Ladder of Virtue, the last Judgment, the tree of Jesse,)

Beside the old and beautiful monasteries we’ll also dedicate some time to visit local craftsmens as: a painted eggs museum and workshop, Marginea pottery center, etc

Day 5: GURA HUMORULUI - SIGHISOARA

Stop At: Manastirea Voronet, Strada Voronet 166, Voronet 725301 Romania
Deapart in the morning. First visit at Voronet Monastery, founded in 1488 by Stephen the Great . It is the most accomplished sample of artistic achievement in Moldavian architecture and painting . The doors of the porch have a Renaissance framing, whereas the stone carvings of the broken arches at the doors and windows belong to the Gothic style.

We’ll continue across the Carpathian mountains, back to Transylvania. We’ll pass in our way the amazing Bicaz Gorges and Red Lake.

End the day in Sighisoara. Taste the local drinks: In the evening we’ll have a plum/pear brandy and wine tasting in a small family cellar.

Day 6: SIGHISOARA – SASCHIZ - PREJMER – BRASOV

Stop At: Sighisoara Historic Center, Piata Cetatii Nr.1 Center of Sighisoara, Sighisoara 545400 Romania
We’ll start the day with a visit on the medieval town of Sighisoara (UNESCO), also called “The Pearl of Transylvania” a wonderful medieval city where you can stil enjoy the medieval atmosphere. The citadel built in 13th century by German (Saxon) settlers it was an important cultural and artist center in medieval period. The old town is considered one of the best preserved medieval towns from Europe and its included in the UNESCO heritages list.

Next we’ll drive through an area of old Transylvania villages which preserve their architecture and customs. Stop at Saschiz village, which it is famous for its natural home-made jams. Visit and jam tasting in a local producer shop.

Stop At: Peasant Fortified Church at Prejmer, East side of the Brasov Depression, Prejmer 507165 Romania
Next we’ll visit the fortified church from Prejmer (UNESCO), dating since 13th century and having an unique defensive architecture.
Duration: 1 hour

Stop At: Brasov Historical Center, Piazza Sfatului, Brasov Romania
End the day in Brasov. In the afternoon walking tour of the medieval center of Brasov (2 hours). The city of Brasov is one of the oldest in Europe, dating from 1235. During the Middle Ages, Brasov was known as a powerful fortress surrounded by high stone walls and defended by bulwarks, towers and other small fortresses. The buildings and the streets in the historical centre still preserve a medieval note. Concil Square, Black Church, White and Black Towers, Weaver’s Bastion and Ecaterina’s Gate are the tour highlights.

Day 7: BRASOV – BRAN – SINAIA - BUCHAREST

Stop At: Bran Castle (Dracula's Castle), Str. General Traian Mosoiu nr. 24, Bran 507025 Romania
In the morning we’ll visit famous Bran castle. Also called Dracula`s Castle, it is situated not far from Brasov (25 kilometres) at the entrance in the Bran - Rucar passage. The castle got its fame from Dracula`s legend written in 1897 by Bram Stoker and later on made into a film by Francis Ford Coppola.. The first documents about the Bran Castle appeared in 1377.
Duration: 2 hours

Stop At: Peles Castle, Str. Pelesului 2, Sinaia 106100 Romania
Continue to Sinaia and visit the Peles Castle, former summer residence of the kings of Romania.

We’ll end our tour in Bucharest, aprox 16.00.hrs.Drop-off at the airport or to a hotel in Bucharest.
