Overview Overview

Take a 2-hour tour through the problematic 20th century of Zadar while learning off fascism, Nazism, communism and the terrible Croatian Homeland War.

World War I caused Italian occupation and years of fascist rule under Benito Mussolini. The city changed culturally, demographically and politically.

World War II was a disaster with 80% of Old Town destroyed by Allied bombing. Rebuilding Zadar was a difficult task under communist rule and Tito.

The fall of communism through the Croatian Homeland War marked the end of totalitarian regimes and brought peace to both Croatia and Zadar.
