{"id":1479,"date":"2025-10-15T10:37:27","date_gmt":"2025-10-15T10:37:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.way.com\/ask\/?p=1479"},"modified":"2025-10-15T10:37:27","modified_gmt":"2025-10-15T10:37:27","slug":"how-to-fix-your-cars-security-light-issue","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.way.com\/ask\/how-to-fix-your-cars-security-light-issue\/","title":{"rendered":"How to fix your car&#8217;s security light issue"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">What causes a security light to stay on? <\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Here are the various reasons why the security light stays on:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Sudden temperature changes<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Malfunctions or glitches in the system<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The sensitivity of the anti-theft systems is being set too high<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Electromagnetic Interference<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Battery issues<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Human errors, such as pressing the panic button on the key fob accidentally<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Interference from other vehicles or animals<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">What to do when there is an issue with your car&#8217;s security light<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Here are the steps you should take when the anti-theft system prevents your car from starting.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Verify the condition of the <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">battery<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0<\/span><\/h4>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Check the battery if<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> your automobile with an anti-theft system won&#8217;t start.<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> It may be low or completely depleted and require charging. Unfortunately, the car&#8217;s system won&#8217;t be able to read the key fob&#8217;s security code in that instance. Next, verify the battery&#8217;s connection. <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">If things pan out, you can <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">try to<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> get it going again.<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Use the key <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">properly<\/span><\/h4>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Whether you&#8217;re inside or outside the car, using your key correctly can return it to working mode.<\/span><\/p>\n<h5><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"><strong>When inside the car:<\/strong><\/span><\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Turn the key slightly to the right after inserting it into the ignition slot. \u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Hold that position for at least ten minutes. Then, likely, it will cause the light to turn off and the car to start.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h5><strong>When outside the car:<\/strong><\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">To open the driver&#8217;s side door, insert your key into the slot, turn it, and hold it for a few seconds. It&#8217;s how the automobile knows you&#8217;re using the original key when you try to start it. \u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">This method helps some models and<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0can be used<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> regardless of the condition of the key fob&#8217;s battery or whether it is functioning.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0The method will need some tweaking to work with other models. \u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">To lock the driver&#8217;s door, insert the key, turn it to unlock, lock, and finally lock the <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">door<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">. \u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The alarm should be off after you turn it back to the &#8220;unlock&#8221; position. \u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Crank the engine and let it run for 10 minutes to reset the car&#8217;s alarm.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">When the steering wheel gets locked\u00a0<\/span><\/h4>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">The anti-theft system may lock the wheel and prevent the key from turning in its slot. <\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">First, try to get it to budge by moving it in the opposite direction and seeing if that helps. <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Next, pull the vehicle in that direction and see if that helps. \u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Insert the car&#8217;s key into the ignition and try to spin it at the same time. If the key is difficult to turn, try pulling the wheel as hard as possible while simultaneously trying to turn it. \u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Your time has come to turn the key and, thus, turn on\u00a0the engine.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Reset the computer system of your <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">car<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0<\/span><\/h4>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">If your car&#8217;s anti-theft system prevents it from starting, this is an alternative solution. After two minutes, reconnect the battery&#8217;s positive terminal. The anode and cathode terminals must also be reconnected and checked for a secure fit. <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">This<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> will clear the memory in your car&#8217;s computer, which can make it more likely to start up again. Reset the factory alarm in case the trick doesn&#8217;t work.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Verify whether the key is <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">damaged<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0<\/span><\/h4>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">There is a possibility that the issue is<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> with the key.<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> When inserted into the ignition, the keys&#8217; embedded chips communicate a code to the security system. If the chip is destroyed or damaged, the key won&#8217;t work. When one key fails to work, use another one. If that doesn&#8217;t work, have the transmission system scanned at the dealership.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Alternatively, <\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">you could try turning<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> the key to start the engine.<\/span><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\"> If the engine does not respond to being started or shuts off right away, keep the key in the on position for 10 minutes.
