However, the shuttle drivers depend heavily on tips to supplement their income. The drivers perform challenging physical work by lifting heavy suitcases onto storage racks, driving through busy roads leading to the airport, and helping passengers stay on schedule. So, offering a considerable tip is a mark of recognition for their effort, driving, and hospitality.

How much to tip an airport shuttle driver

How much you give as a tip depends on how much luggage you have and the level of service they provide.

$1 to $2 per bag: This is the typical tip when the driver loads and unloads your bags. If you have two large bags, a tip of $2 to $4 can be appropriate.

$3 to $5 total: This is a common tip that families with several bags or couples give, or when the driver lifts heavy things like strollers or golf bags.

$5 or more: This is a generous tip for exceptional service, like when the driver waits for you when you’re short on time before a flight, drives in bad weather, or helps older passengers.

Practical tipping tips for travelers

Here are a few easy tips to make your terminal drop-off go smoothly:

Keep small bills handy: Before you get to the parking lot, keep some $1 and $5 bills in an outer pocket. That way, you won’t have to dig through your carry-on at the airport terminal.

Tip when you arrive: Give the tip straight to the driver once they’ve unloaded your bags at the terminal.

Check for digital payment signs: Some shuttle companies have QR codes so you can tip via an app. Still, cash is the fastest and most reliable way to pay a tip.

Easy airport transfers with Way

To avoid a hassle on your travel day, you must pre-book your parking spot. Most offsite lots near the airports offer a free round-trip shuttle service that operates every 10-15 minutes. Pre-booking your parking guarantees you a parking spot, helping you save up to 60% on parking rates compared to the drive-up parking rates, and offers convenient drop-off at your terminal.

Why tipping your shuttle driver is a standard practice Most offsite lots offer airport shuttles as a complimentary service when you reserve parking.
