So, attendants need to plan around flight arrivals that can shift at any time. They also handle hefty luggage in the early morning or late night, and work through busy terminal curbs. That’s why a cash tip goes a long way. It shows you appreciate the extra care that you get, and in return offers you reliable service when you return from a tiring flight!

Standard airport valet tipping guidelines

Not sure how much to tip the attendant? Don’t worry! Tipping is personal, but the appropriate amount usually depends on the extent of help you get.

$3 to $5 for standard service: This is the usual amount you can tip the valet attendant when they bring your car to the terminal curb quickly and help you load one or two carry-on bags.

$5 to $10 for heavy luggage or families: You can tip the valet attendant in this range if you’re traveling with many big suitcases, strollers, car seats, or sports gear that require a lot of lifting.

$10 or more for exceptional service: If you get additional help, like adjusting to a last-minute flight delay, cooling down the cabin on a hot summer day, or clearing snow off your car, you can tip around $10 or more.

Should you tip at drop-off, pickup, or both?

Typically, at pickup. That is when the valet service is complete, and you can check that your car is returned in good condition.

However, it is optional to tip during drop-off. If you’re rushing to your boarding gate or require help with your bags right at the curb, giving $2 to $3 upfront can get you additional attention. So, if you wish to tip the valet attendant at both stages, a couple of dollars at drop-off and $3 to $5 at pickup can be good.

Important valet etiquette tips for travelers

Before you head to the airport, keep these simple tips in mind:

Prepaid reservations don’t include tips: When you book valet parking in advance via Way, your reservation covers only the daily parking rate. However, it doesn’t include a cash tip for the attendants.

Keep small bills in your car: Attendants can’t always accept card tips or digital transfers at the curb. So, always keep a few $1 and $5 bills in your center console, and you won’t have to dig through your luggage when you return.

Check your car before you leave: Walk around your car at the pickup area and confirm it’s in good condition. Ideally, do this before you tip and drive away!

Why airport valet tipping differs from regular valet Airport valet work takes extra physical effort and runs on tighter schedules.
