Also, if parked in a garage, ensure the garage door is open. Assume the vehicle is in park (or first gear with a manual transmission), with the back wheels chocked and the parking brake engaged.<\/li>\n<li class=\"ewa-rteLine\">Depending on the car, open the trunk or hood. If the battery\u2019s position is unclear, check the owner\u2019s manual for its location.<\/li>\n<li class=\"ewa-rteLine\">Then remove the battery hold-down clamp.<\/li>\n<li class=\"ewa-rteLine\">First, unplug the negative cable with a wrench. Then disconnect the positive cable.
