The recent buzz in town has been about the all-new 2023 Honda CR-V Hybrid. It’s the trendiest thing in town- combining aesthetics with modern innovations- a new rugged design, a longer wheelbase, a wider stance, and an improved powertrain motor. With a revised CR-V lineup and aspirations for electrified vehicles, Honda has stated that the Honda CR-V Hybrid is a significant component for accelerating the future generation of cars.

Honda aims to make CR-V Hybrid account for 50% of annual CR-V sales. The CR-V Sport and Sport Touring trims of the CR-V are now the only hybrid cars available, while the EX and EX-L trims continue to use the 1.5-liter turbo-4 non-hybrid engine. In addition, with a new fourth-generation version of its two-mode hybrid system, Honda has increased the output in hybrid models to 204 horsepower and 247 lb-ft of torque—up from 212 horsepower and 232 lb-ft in the outgoing version.

The hybrid version of the Honda CR-V was launched in 2020. Honda’s hybrid system typically operates the CR-V Hybrid as a series hybrid, which uses the motor system to move the car while the gasoline engine produces energy. The mechanism can clutch the engine to the drive wheels at a high ratio in specific cruising conditions. The electric motor system can now run up to 115 mph on the 2023 model, up from the previous 86 mph, while the CR-V receives an upgraded all-wheel-drive system across the portfolio that can now deliver up to 50% of torque to the rear wheels. While some other vehicles, like the Toyota RAV4 Hybrid, have a separate motor in the back, the CR-V Hybrid uses a prop shaft to turn the rear wheels.

With new steering and suspension, the Honda CR-V should be more enjoyable to drive this time. A stiffer front subframe connects to the strut front suspension and variable-ratio steering. Additionally, a redesigned rear subframe with a higher spring rate supports the multi-link rear suspension.

New features

The redesigned CR-V has a sportier look due to the repositioning of the windshield pillars. All versions except for the Sport Touring Hybrid feature 18-inch alloy wheels. The Sport Touring Hybrid comes with !9-inch Gloss-black allows wheels. The two-motor hybrid powertrain powers the CR-V. The CR-V also features a Snow mode and a Sports mode.

The Real-Time AWD with Intelligent Control System also offers improved cornering traction performance providing extra power to the rear wheels when it senses the steering wheels turning. The CR-V includes safety features like Collision Mitigation Braking System, Road Departure Mitigation System, Blind Spot Information w/Cross Traffic Monitor, Multi-Angle Rearview Camera, Adaptive Cruise Control w/Low-Speed Follow, Lane Keeping Assist System, etc. The vehicle also features the Blind Spot Information system and the Cross Traffic Monitor. The Blindspot information system alerts you about the presence of vehicles on the side of the CR-V. The cross-traffic monitor alerts you to approaching vehicles when you’re backing up. The vehicle also is equipped with a multi-angle rearview camera. The CR-V also has a Walk away Auto-Lock.

How much is the price for the 2023 Honda CR-V Hybrid?

The CR-V starts at $31,110 for the EX version. The Sport Hybrid version starts at $32,450. The EX-L starts at $33,760. The most expensive option is the Sport Touring Hybrid starting at $38,600. Only the SPORT Hybrid and Sport touring Hybrid come with the Hybrid powertrain motor. Premium color adds a $395 extra charge. Premium colors are available on EX, Sport Hybrid, EX-L, and Sport Touring Hybrid trim.

What is the mpg rating of the new 2023 CR-V Hybrid?

The Hybrid versions of the CR-V offer a 40 city/34 highway fuel-economy rating.

Interiors

The interior features body-stabilizing front seats and a cargo area that has been expanded. It also features power-adjustable steering and has Adaptive cruise control with low speed follow and A Lane Keeping Assist System.

The seats are leather-trimmed for the Sport Touring Hybrid. The car also has a fully equipped Bose premium surround sound system. The interior also includes a one-touch power moonroof. The interior also comes with Dual-zone Automatic Climate Control for comfort.

The vehicle also features premium features like heated seats and a heated steering wheel. The CR-V also comes with configurable rear seating for utility. The interior is equipped with a 9-inch touch screen supporting wireless Apple Car Play and Andriod Auto compatibility. The dash also has a power meter to monitor the hybrid battery’s power output and recharge itself while driving. The interior also comes with a wireless phone charger, standard on the EX-L and the sporting Hybrid. The vehicle also has front and rear USB ports. It also has a USB- C type port.

CR-V Hybrid plug-in

This is also not your typical hybrid setup since the 2.0-liter engine only serves as a generator in default hybrid mode to charge the batteries, which in turn power the electric motor that powers the wheels. Depending on your speed and how you use the throttle, the car’s system alternates between the petrol and electric modes. The CR-V is currently a regular hybrid rather than a plug-in hybrid., so you can’t top up the battery and run around for miles on end using electricity alone. There are rumors that the sixth-generation CR-V will be Honda’s first PHEV in Europe. As of now, there is not much information regarding the Hybrid plug-in or if there is a plug-in-option at all
