Stretch your legs at a lounge
A long layover is a perfect excuse to make a short trip to one of the LaGuardia airport lounges. If you hold an American Express card or are flying American, Delta, United, or Air Canada, you could purchase a day pass to enter one of the many lounges at LaGuardia. At the lounge, you can take advantage of the unlimited food and drinks, free Wi-Fi, and comfortable couches while you browse through the paper or take a quick nap.

Here, you will find stores offering anything from makeup to the latest tech gadgets. You could even pick up new clothes at Lacoste, TUMI, or Uniqlo, among others, at LaGuardia airport. If airport lounges aren’t your thing but you still need to grab a bite, there are plenty of sit-down restaurants and coffee shops at LaGuardia’s terminals B, C, and D. Sadly, there aren’t any 24/7 eateries at LaGuardia.
Go sightseeing
Situated in Queens, New York, there are plenty of sights around LaGuardia that you could check out while you are on a layover. If you can leave the airport, make use of your long layover to catch an NYC Airporter van to make your way into Manhattan and take a stroll through neighborhoods like Chinatown or Greenwich Village. Or, you could remain in Queens and explore Astoria’s Mediterranean culture or Flushing’s Chinatown.
Let’s Go, Mets Go!
Fans of baseball could take a short trip to Citi Field, home of the New York Mets while on a LaGuardia layover. If you’re lucky, you could catch a game live instead of watching it on TV at the airport. You could also visit The Mets Hall of Fame, located adjacent to the Jackie Robinson Rotunda, where you can learn all about the baseball team and watch footage of their memorable moments.
Appreciate the artwork
If you love art, then make your way to the Marine Air Terminal to appreciate James Brooks’s mural called the “Flight”. First painted in the 1940s, the mural depicts the history of flying. The mural was covered up in 1952 and restored to its original condition in the 70s.
