What is the Roots Picnic 2023?

Roots Picnic is an annual multi-day weekend music festival in Philadelphia. In 2023, the event is back in the city for its 15th edition with a diverse lineup, including Diddy with the hosts The Roots, Lil Uzi Vert, Busta Rhymes, and more. This year’s event also features a Live Podcast stage and a kick-off standup comedy show by Dave Chappell.

The Roots introduced their hometown music festival in June 2008 and has since made it into a successful summertime tradition in Philly. The hip-hop band’s manager, Shawn Gee, is the festival’s executive producer. The Roots have kept the event going every year since 2008. During the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, a YouTube live stream was set up for the 13th edition. H.E.R., Lil Baby, Roddy Ricch, SZA, and more performed for the online event, along with appearances by Michelle Obama, Janelle Monáe, Tracee Ellis Ross, Kerry Washington, and others. After a year’s break, the festival returned with a bigger lineup in 2022.
