One of the busiest airports in the country may not be anyone’s first choice of place to sleep in, we agree, but can you sleep at JFK Airport? If yes, where can you sleep at JFK Airport?

JFK Airport in New York is the busiest international air travel gateway to North America. Consequently, it has many flights and connections within the country and around the world. This means that passenger footfall is constant, even during the night and early in the morning. Consequently, you’ll often see numerous passengers hanging around at the airport while waiting for their flight to depart. Although all terminals are open 24 hours a day, the airport does not offer many suitable areas to rest. It is also somewhat cold, noisy, and bright.

Pro Tip: We recommend you bring a sleeping bag, blankets, an eye mask, and earplugs.

As many weary travelers have found out, there are few resting locations in public areas at JFK. What’s more, most seats at the airport have armrests, making it impossible to stretch out and nap.

Terminals 1 and 4 are quite possibly the most convenient, as at least a few restaurants are open all night. Terminal 5 is the most modern and clean. It is also a viable alternative if you do not mind sleeping on the ground.

Another option (paying or using a credit card that offers the service) is to use one of the VIP lounges, which provide better facilities and seclusion. The main issue is that the majority of them close at night.

The Wingtips Lounge in Terminal 4’s boarding area is the only one that’s open 24 hours a day.

If you prefer to stay at a hotel, the TWA Lounge is located near Terminal 5. Furthermore, there are several in the area, and some of them offer parking and shuttle services. You can find out which hotels offer parking and shuttle on this  JFK parking page.

JetBlue has deployed GoSleep pods in their JFK Terminal 5 business lounge. GoSleep and JetBlue are testing it out, and it was initially exclusively available to business lounge guests. The lockable pods include a long leather mattress with a breathable lockable screen on top. Typically, each pod can be rented by the hour or overnight. Those who use the pod can keep their belongings under the mattress, which can be readily taken up. Each pod includes a quick-charger for electronic devices. Users are responsible for cleaning their own pod with the cleaning products provided.

Can you sleep at JFK airport?

Yes, you can sleep in JFK Airport, but it can be a little uncomfortable with all the armrests and noise. If you don’t mind paying, you can use the sleep pods in Terminal 5 or book a room at the TWA hotel.

Can you sleep at the airport overnight?

It depends on the airport. At least, most of the larger international airports will allow you to nap. However, some airports close at night, while others do not allow or encourage airport sleeping.

Does JFK have a hotel inside?

Yes, it does. The official JFK Airport website mentions the TWA Hotel as an ‘on airport’ hotel. You can walk from Terminal 5 to the hotel.
