Can you wash your car after getting windows tinted – What you need to know

Spread the love

Did you get your windows tinted recently? Are you looking for the right ways to protect the tint? In this post, we’re answering the often-asked question after window tinting, which is: can you wash your car after getting windows tinted? Keep reading to know more.

Car window tinting

Car window tinting is the process of applying a thin film onto the interior surface of the windows. This thin film darkens the window and blocks UV rays, sunlight, and glare – from headlights – entering your car. What’s more, window tints make your car look good and offer you privacy. Window tint films are available in a variety of materials and shades. These films are measured based on visible light transmission. That means a car tint with a darker shade has a very low percentage of light transmission. Therefore, the amount of light that enters the car will be minimal, which will increase the visibility of the driver.

Types of car window tints

There are multiple window tint options available. Before selecting the tint, have a look at its pros and cons. Here are the different types of window tint:

Ceramic tint

Ceramic window tints contain no dyes or metal particles; therefore, they will not fade over time. Also, ceramic particles are poor conductors of heat. This means they can block the UV rays and sunlight more effectively. The ceramic layer in these tints will prevent glare and makes your windows shatterproof.

Carbon tint

Carbon tints have a matte finish and add aesthetic value to your car. This tint is made of carbon fiber particles, and like ceramic tint, will not fade over time. These tints can keep your car warm in winter and cool in summer.

Metallic tint

Metallic tints will reflect the sunlight, as opposed to absorbing it. Also, metallic tints are scratch-resistant and make your windows shatterproof. But sometimes they can interfere with radio or GPS signals and cause you some inconvenience.

Dyed film

It is the most common type of tint. It comprises several layers of dyed film and absorbs the sunlight that penetrates through the windows. However, these are not as efficient as other tints for UV protection and fade over time.

Hybrid window tint

Hybrid window tints are made from a combination of dyes and metal particles. They contain several dyed layers and a thin metal layer in between. Also, they don’t have a reflective appearance.

Things to do to protect your window tints

Here are a few things you need to keep in mind after tinting your windows:

Wait for the bubble to disappear

Some car owners might witness bubbles trapped in window film. Don’t worry – these are caused because of moisture and should disappear within a few days. So, don’t try to scrub and remove the bubbles. Instead, allow the film to dry.

Let it dry

Allow the window tints to dry, and don’t do anything that could damage it. In summers, the drying process can take up to 4 days. Whereas in winters, the drying process can take much longer.

Don’t roll down the windows after tinting

We know you’ll have the urge to roll down the windows and check if the tints are proper. However, don’t do that as it can damage the window tints. Let the windows stay rolled up.

Now we finally get to the big question, which is:

Can you wash your car after getting windows tinted?

Yes, you can wash your car after getting the windows tinted. The tint is applied on the interior part of the windows, and a car wash will clean your vehicle’s exterior! However, don’t wash or clean the interior part of the window just after it’s tinted.

The window cleaning process is simple. Apply an ammonia-free window cleaner onto the glass and wipe it with a microfiber cloth to remove the dirt. To clean your car’s exterior, we recommend you take it to a professional car wash near you. You can find some of the best car washes near you on Way.com.
